Before The Wedding

Tranio, Lucentio, and Biondello came up with an idea; to find a random person and disguise him as

Vincentio. They found a traveling merchant and convinced him to be Vincentio. Baptista believed that he

was the real Vincentio and Bianca and Lucentio’s wedding announcement was declared and the celebration

preparations were underway. As a result, the bond of the “Love Triangle” between Bianca, Hortensio, and

Gremio was shattered and lost forever.

The Wedding

Before the wedding began, Petruchio and Katherine, on their way to the wedding, found the real Vincentio.

They brought him to Baptista’s house and Lucentio, Tranio, Biondello, and the fake Vincentio pretended

they didn’t know who he was. Eventually they told the truth and Lucentio and Bianca were still allowed to

get married. After the wedding, Lucentio, Hortensio, and Petruchio played a game to see who’s wife is

“Love wrought these miracles. Bianca’s love, made me exchange my state with Tranio, while he did bear my countenance in the town, and happily I have arrivèd at the last” - Lucentio (Act 5 Scene 1)

RecapYoung Bianca Minola had not been allowed to marry until her older shrew of a sister (Katherine) was married first. “Gentlemen, importune me no farther, for how I firmly am resolvèd you know; this is, not to bestow my youngest daughter before I have a husband for the elder.” -Baptista (Act 1 Scene 1). Petruchio, a man who was more conniving than Katherine, married her, thus paving the way and granting the ability of marriage to Bianca. Everybody in Padua had been waiting for this moment to arrive, so Gremio, Hortensio, and Lucentio decided to take their chance at marrying her while it lasted.

The Fight For Bianca

Two men, Hortensio and Gremio, had been fighting over who would marry the lovely Bianca after Katherine’s marriage, thus creating the famous “Love Triangle” among Gremio, Hortensio, and Bianca. Lucentio, another character who loved Bianca, decided to disguise himself as a tutor (Cambio) to woo Bianca, so she would fall for him and marry him instead of the other two. Ask Petruchio:Hortensio: I, Hortensio, would like to know how to

tame a shrew. I have just recently severed my relationship with Bianca and have decided to marry a widow. This widow is ill mannered just like Katherine and I must know how to tame her the right way. Any advice?

Petruchio: Hortensio do not worry my affable friend, I shall explain to you how to tame a vile shrew. The main goal is make her agree with and believe everything you say. This will lead to her treating you like a lord and her master. One way to accomplish this goal is to treat her like a falcon. Starve her, deprive her of her sleep, and forbid her from seeing and attending all family functions (including weddings). “My falcon is now sharp and passing empty, and, till she stoop, she must not be full-gorged, for then she never looks upon her lure. Another way I have to man my haggard, to make her come and know her keeper’s call.” - Petruchio (Act 4 Scene 1) She must be obedient to you and you must not tolerate if she acts disrespectful to you. If you would like to come to my house to see me in action, you may.

ADVICE COLUMN

Lucentio: Hello fellow. How have you been doing? I

have successfully revealed my identity to the oblivious Bianca. What should I do now? Shall I ask her to marry me or wait for years to come?

Petruchio: Good gentle Lucentio. I have much experience in this subject. If you truly love this Bianca then you should ask her to marry you. Bianca has an affable personality, so I believe you should not treat her how one would treat Katherine; her “shrew” of a sister. Also, in order to have a proper marriage with Bianca, you must reveal that YOU are Lucentio and not Cambio to everyone (not only Bianca). That’s the way to an appropriate and successful marriage.

Petruchio and Katherine’s WeddingIn Padua, there have been some incredible events. Events some might not believe. The Shrew of Padua has been married! That’s right, you heard it. Many people including Baptista Minola, Gremio, Hortensio, Bianca, and of course the bride and groom, Petruchio and Katherine; were all gathered yesterday for a day that the world would have never guessed could happen. However, I think this wedding should not have happened. I think this, because Petruchio does not even love Katherine Minola. The only reason why he wanted to marry her is because of the money. Now I don’t know about you, but I sure would not want to marry someone that only likes me for my money. Gremio Ministra gave me some of his thoughts about Petruchio and his actions at the wedding. “‘Tis a groom indeed, a grumbling groom, and that the girl shall find. Why, he’s a devil, a devil, a very fiend.” -Gremio (Act 3 Scene 2). On the wedding day, Petruchio arrived late and acted like a fool. In addition, Petruchio, who showed up late to his wedding, arrived in ridiculous habiliments. Petruchio’s shabby appearance caused every one to be confounded and raised questions regarding his behavior. The father of the bride, Baptista Minola, seemed stunned when the groom informed him of his decision to wear his shabby clothes to the wedding. In my opinion, Petruchio’s rude behavior at the wedding serves as a funny and interesting way to marry. It also attempts to create a big picture on the moral of the story; which is taming Katherine the Shrew.

He is WORSE than Katherine Minola in my eyes. He is a disgrace to be called a gentleman, and now the world shall see why they were put together; because they both have a lot in common. They’re both ill mannered and tempered shrews. Everybody in Padua would probably agree that they were perfect for each other, mainly because of the fact that this marriage led to Bianca’s freedom, but I do not agree with this wedding at all. The only good side to this marriage is now her beautiful sister can finally get married. So gentlemen, set your schedules free and take the first carriage down to Padua for your chance your chance to win Bianca Minola’s heart! I agree with what Gremio says about Petruchio. Petruchio’s methods of taming Katherine are completely wrong and unjust. Katherine may be a shrew and act mean and evil, but she doesn’t deserve to marry a man who clearly doesn’t love her and is just marrying her for the money.

BIANCA’S COMPLICATED LOVE LIFE

All Overall View of ThingsBaptista parent of Bianca and

Katherine set a grave rule. The rule was that Katherine has to get married before Bianca. The reason he did this was that nobody liked Katherine and everybody loved Bianca, so he thought that if the people want to marry her so badly that they would find someone to marry Katherine so they could marry Bianca. Then a man named Hortensio found a man who wanted to marry Katherine. The man’s name was Petruchio. People were shocked that he wanted to marry her. The reason for this is because she was rude and everybody thought she was cursed. But Petruchio said he would make her submissive and a loyal lover to her husband. After they got married, Petruchio started to make her this way with many tactics and strategies. He wanted to perpetuate his plan for as long as it takes to get her to be completely changed. Then Bianca found someone to marry. His name is Lucentio. Bianca fell in love with Lucentio when he was disguised as a tutor and started tutoring her as Cambio. When she started loving him she found out he wasn’t actually a tutor and that Tranio wasn’t really Lucentio either. Through Lucentio and Tranio’s plan, they removed Gremio and Hortensio out of the race for Bianca, making him a shoe-in to marry her.

What Happened To The Others?

A lot of people loved Bianca. Now they are happy because they can

marry her. But little did they know that she was going to marry Lucentio. The people who loved her were Gremio, Hortensio, and Lucentio. At the end only one of them can marry her. Gremio was just an old foolish man. Hortensio was a man who disguises himself as a tutor to try and make Bianca fall in love with him. Lucentio was a man who’s father thinks he is Padua for studying and also disguises himself as a tutor to try and make Bianca fall in love with him.Hortensio, noticing Lucentio-Cambio’s affection for Bianca, determined to abandon her if she showed any interest in such a social inferior as Hortensio believed Cambio to be. When in fact, Lucentio should be thinking of Hortensio as a social inferior because Lucentio is rich! After removing his disguise as Litio to Tranio, Hortensio rejected Bianca forever and resolved to marry a wealthy widow who loved him. He also set off to observe Petruchio’s taming of Katherine. Gremio, after losing Bianca to Tranio-Lucentio, threw a tantrum expressing his jealously and frustration towards Lucentio’s wealth. He was envious of Lucentio’s abundant wealth, which he inherited from his father. Lucentio, disguised as Cambio, successfully wooed Bianca as she reciprocated his love and affection. Their wedding was announced and the celebration preparations were made for Tranio-Lucentio and Bianca’s special day. But these plans were soon changed to the real Lucentio and Bianca’s special day. “Right true it is

your son Lucentio here doth love my daughter, and she loveth him, or both dissemble deeply their affections. And therefore, if you say no more than this, that like a father you will deal with him and pass my daughter a sufficient dower, the match is made, and all is done. Your son shall have my daughter with consent.” Baptista (Act 4 Scene 4).

Louis: Hi how are you? How has your life been going? Lucentio: I’m great! I finally got the woman of my dreams to marry me and I just can’t get over the fact that I’m marrying Bianca Minola! Louis: Ok, how do you plan on treating Bianca?

Lucentio: I am going to treat her with complete respect and treat her to the best things I can offer her. I am not going to train her to respect me and be my servant of love like Petruchio did to her sister. I want Bianca to love for myself not to love me as her master.

Louis: Good to hear it, now how did you feel when you saw your father? And I mean your real father? Lucentio: When I saw my father I was scared but me and Bianca loved each other so much that I didn’t care what I had to do, as long as we were together. My father is a good man and I know that he would have no problem if I decided to marry Bianca if we truly loved each other. Louis: Do you think your father was mad on the inside? Lucentio: No, because I know my father wants me to be happy and he wants what is best for me. He didn’t care when I didn’t study when I came here, he just wanted me to be happy. Louis: Do you and Bianca plan living with her father Baptista? Lucentio: No, we plan on buying our own patrimony to live in, but we believe we should still live in Padua, but alone (without any friends or family).

Louis: What does your opening speech reveal about your character?

Lucentio: Through my opening speech, I am portrayed as a very smart and cunning character; one who loves philosophy,

math and music
