It gives me great

pleasure to invite your

presence and

participation in the

Placement Process of

2010. The batch of

2011, consists of 118

bright individuals eager

to take up the

challenges of the

corporate world. As in

the past, we believe the

two years of value

based education in

TAPMI must have made

them as well rounded

individuals who combine the right sense of aggression and

empathy. I am sure you will find them highly suitable for the

challenging positions available in your organization.

Ever since in its inception, TAPMI has always strived to be

different from thousands of other business schools in the

country. Be it in the academic rigour, theme structure or the

intensive Management-In-Practice (MIP), Student case

development or the latest emphasis on Blue Ocean way of

thinking in Management, the Institute always likes to evolve

itself as a role model for others to follow. I take this

opportunity to thank all our recruiters, who encouraged us

to carry out these experiments to be in tune with the

changing times. Those of you, who are supporting us for

past several years, will be happy to note that the coveted

International Accreditation body for Business Schools :

Association for Advancement of Collegiate Schools of

Business (AACSB) has admitted TAPMI to its last stage of

accreditation and we hope by the end of the year TAPMI

will become the first business school in the country to get

this prestigious recognition, a mark of quality of education

all around the world.

Placements always form an important part of a business

school function. It marks the culmination of the process of

moulding highly employable Industry ready professionals

through a two year long rigorous academic process. I am

sure the corporates who were visiting us in the past will

vouch for the quality of the output TAPMI produces. While

thanking them for their continued support for the

development of TAPMI, let me once again extend a warm

welcome to them as well as the new recruiters to the

portals of TAPMI to experience and assess the products of

the alchemy of TAPMI : "The Post Graduate Diploma in

Management."

Thank You

Dr. Saji Gopinath

Dear Stakeholder,

Last year, we had seen

major steps in the

continuing evolution at

TAPMI, mainly, the new

campus and

infrastructure. Your

institute has progressed

further in terms of

variety in offerings

which obviously has

had a good impact on

the students. The

e - G o v e r n a n c e

Programme for

Executives (eGPX) has been extremely well received by the

industry and we have just launched our new course in

Healthcare Management. Indeed, the new campus has

brought with it new tidings and opportunities for growth;

growth that you are an integral part of.

The strong relation between TAPMI and your organizations

has pulled us through one more difficult year, which saw

the industry just about emerge from the recession, and

which also saw TAPMI place its largest ever batch, quite

satisfactorily. We look forward to cementing this relationship

and taking it to newer heights this year. In fact, this year has

seen a larger number of opportunities for the industry to

interact with TAPMI and get even more familiar with it.

We present before you the graduating batch of 2009-11

which will be ready to join the industry from April-May 2011.

This batch consisting of 118 bright minds has the usual

healthy variety in terms of experience, background,

achievements and areas of interest. A brief profile of each

student forms a part of this brochure.

We look forward to having you on campus and help raise

the bar for placements 2011.

Field-Based Experiential Learning

Outbound

This week long programme, conducted by a specialized agency, requires students to go through a series of activities in a challenging environment where even the simplest tasks require planning, leadership, communication and team-work. After going through this experience, students reflect on their learning and experiment with new behaviours. Students are expected to make sense out of uncertainty with the limited resources available to them and to realize the importance of team work, communication, physical fitness as well as develop sensitivity towards the environment.

Social Responsibility

Social responsibility is the cornerstone of the Institute's foundation. The NGO/CSR Project is an important component of TAPMI's Post Graduate programme that enhances field based

experiential learning. This programme enables students to sensitize the students to the problems in the development sector. Working with and contributing to the management of NGOs, the students develop new perspectives with respect to the role of business in society.

Few organizations where TAPMI students did their NGO/CSR projects are:

• Biocon foundation

• Berger paints

Page 16: TAPMI Placement Brochure 2010-11

Management-in-

Practice (MIP)

TAPMI's Summer Internship

Programme or MIP provides unique

opportunities to the students to get a

deeper insight and understanding

about organisations and their

management practices under the

expert guidance of an industry mentor.

The programme was presented with

Best Innovation in Management

Education Award by the Association

of Indian Management Schools.

Some of the salient features of MIP

programme are its experiential nature,

open-ended approach and knowledge

management orientation. The students

work on issues, problems or industry

concerns. However their work does not

end with the submission of reports

alone. Their problem analysis and

solving capabilities are tested and a

knowledge source for the future is

created.

The programme is divided into the

following three phases running parallel

to the in-class learning,

Phase I - The Learning Phase: The

students familiarise themselves with

the intricacies of an organisation, by

interacting with a local SME for three

days.

Phase II - The Working Phase: The

students are recruited by organisations

for a period of 8 weeks during which

they undertake a project to solve a real

life business problem.

Phase III - The Report Finalisation

Phase: The students analyse their

work and present their findings within a

theoretical framework. This phase

consists of rigorous evaluation by the

faculty on presentations and written

reports given by the students.

MIP 2010

TAPMI's graduating batch of 2011,

consisting of 118 students, proved

their merit and calibre by securing a

100% summer placement with

opportunities across diverse sectors

throughout different locations in India.

Center for e- Governance,

Research and Education

[CeGRE]

TAPMI has taken a pioneering step by

launching an executive program on e-

Governance under the tenets of the

Center for e-Governance Research

and Education' [CeGRE]. Broadly, the

aims and objectives of the Center are

to:

• Disseminate information and build

awareness among the public

regarding the potential benefits of

such projects.

• Organize systematic study and

investigation of ongoing e-

Governance projects.

• Sensitize the academic community

about issues and problems

relating to successful project

implementation and full harvesting

of benefits.

• Create new intellectual output in e-

Governance space via relying on

experts and specialists from

different academic disciplines and

collaborating with practitioners

from government and industry.

• Act as a reliable, self-sustaining,

one-point center where any and all

vital and germane issues having to

do with e-Governance can be

taken up and addressed in an

advisory role.

Center for Indian Culture,

Heritage and

Management [CICHM]

The Center of Excellence in Indian

Culture, Heritage and Management

functions as a facilitator for bringing

together the existing wealth of

knowledge, and act as a forum for

furthering research and development

in its field. The Center tries to take

advantage of this paradigm shift and

contribute in the following ways-

• Develop a research structure for

studying Indian managerial

models.

• Conduct workshops/seminars to

consolidate knowledge on the

topic.

• Propagate the ideas and concepts

within and outside the country.

• Make comparative studies with

other managerial cultures.

Center for Inclusive

Growth

The Center for Inclusive Growth [CIG]

focuses on the inclusion of all sections

of the society for achieving better

growth. It attempts to conduct

workshops, trainings and seminars.

The center attempts to capture the

paradigm shift in favour of viewing the

poorer class of the society as

customers . The center has already

conducted a seminar on "Serving the

Bottom of the Pyramid Customers" in

2009 and is poised to move forward

with international conferences in

future.

Center for Collaborative

Learning

TAPMI has recently embarked on an

initiative towards bridging the divide

between the academia and the

industry, under the banner of TAPMI

Center for Collaborative Learning

(TCCL). This is conceived as a

platform for engagement in

collaborative research which will

combine the rigour of the academia

with the relevance of industry issues

and problems.

The India Blue Ocean

Strategy Research

Centre

T.A.Pai Management Institute has set

up The India Blue Ocean Strategy

Research Centre in collaboration with

Blue Ocean Strategy Regional Centre,

Malaysia, to train corporates, students

and faculty members for various

management schools. The centre was

launched on September 18, 2010 in

Bangalore by noted film director Mr.

Shekhar Kapur.

The event was attended by Dr. K R S

Murthy, Chairman, and former Director,

IIM-Bangalore; Mr. Ajit Nambiar, CMD,

BPL India; Mr. Peter Tan, BOSRC,

Malaysia; Dato' Peter T.S. Ng,

Chairman, UCSI Group, Malaysia; Mr.

S. Sivakumar, CEO, ITC-Agro

(eChoupal); Dr. Yoo Sook Saw, MD,

LGSoft India. Mr. Anand Sudarshan,

CEO, Manipal Education; Mr. Dilip

Ranjekar, CEO, Azim Premji

Foundation; Mr. Dipesh Shah, Head,

WTB, Samsung India; Dr. Robert Bong,

CRICT Research, USA.

According to Director Saji Gopinath,

"The India Blue Ocean Strategy

Research Centre will focus on

increasing the adaptability of Blue

Ocean Strategy (BOS) to different

industry segments in the country and

will undertake research and education

services in collaboration with our

Malaysian counterpart along with

Manipal Education."

Blue Ocean Strategy

Blue Ocean Strategy is a systematic

approach that changes the frames of

reference from competitive strategy to

making competition irrelevant.

Propounded by W. Chan Kim and

Renée Mauborgne of INSEAD,

Fontainbleau, France, in 2005 through

their book "Blue Ocean Strategy", the

approach explains six principles of

formulating and executing a blue

ocean strategy, namely reconstructing

market boundaries, reaching beyond

current demand/consumers, right

strategic sequence, overcoming

organisational hurdles and building

execution into strategy.

It is a system that makes competition

irrelevant by creating new market

spaces through simultaneous

achievement of differentiation and low

cost. This strategy is about moving

away from the traditional approach

with existing competition.

TAPMI SILVER JUBILEE LEADERSHIP LECTURE SERIES PLACEMENT BROCHURE-2011

T. A. PAI MANAGEMENT INSTITUTE22

The TAPMI Silver Jubilee Leadership

Lecture Series is a series of lectures by

eminent personalities who have made

significant contribution to the growth of

the country through their professional

achievements.

These lectures were initiated by TAPMI

as a move to commemorate its 25th

year of inception (1985-2009) and to

honour the commitment and vision of

the Late Shri T. A. Pai. In all, TAPMI

plans to organize twenty five such

lectures by inviting eminent Indian

personalities with a similar drive and

passion as its founder, Shri T. A. Pai.

• The first in the series of lectures

was held in December 2009 and

the guest speaker for the

occasion was Shri Salman

Khurshid, Union Minister of State

(Independent charge) for

Corporate Affairs and Minority

Affairs. Mr Khurshid delivered a

lecture on 'Corporate

Governance'. In his address, he

talked about taking corporate

governance in India to a superior

level by using the Advocacy

model. He also emphasized that

the main aim should be to

facilitate the transition of the

directors of a company from

being just the controllers of an

organization, to enlightened

partners and regulators in the

growth of the company.

• The speaker for the second

Leadership Lecture held in March

2010 was Shri Rajdeep Sardesai,

Editor-in-chief, CNN-IBN, and a

renowned journalist. Mr Sardesai

delivered a lecture on 'Customer

Orientation and Objective

Journalism'. He talked about how

24-hour news channels in the

country have become "gigantic

beasts of journalism that need to

be constantly fed". He candidly

discussed the short-comings of

sting journalism and shared his

views on the much debated topic

of 'paid news'.

• Mr. Manish Sabharwal,

a successful entrepreneur and co-

founder of TeamLease Services,

delivered a lecture on

'Entrepreneurship as a career' to

the students of TAPMI in April

2010. Mr.Manish Sabharwal is an

MBA from Wharton and had co-

founded companies like IndiaLife,

ICap India and India Insure Risk

Management. In his lecture, he

pointed out that as an

entrepreneur, one should value

diversity in a team, since different

skills are required at different

phases of business.

• His Excellency Shri. M. K.

Narayanan, Governor of West

Bengal and former National

Security Advisor delivered a

lecture on "India's engagement

with the World" on 7th September

2010 as part of the Leadership

Lecture series.
