6. BACKGROUND

I graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and surgery at Baghdad University in June 1974, where I

am the fifth among my class mate (85 students). On September 1979, I started a Master program in Biological

Sciences, in the field of Microbiology, Faculty of Sciences, Jordan University, Amman. I earned my master

degree in Biology/Microbiology in 1983 working with Prof. Abdel-Razaq Taqi Eddin. During my study I

worked as a veterinarian at Ministry of Agriculture/Amman, Jordan. After I earned my Master degree I was

promoted to be a head of the bacteriological unit at Animal Health Institute at the Ministry of Agriculture

where I work till July 1991. In July 1991, I won a grant from the British Council/Amman, to purse my

graduate study (Ph.D.) at The Royal Veterinary College (RVC) / London University/ U.K. for the years 1991-

1995, where I joined Prof. Jet Johnes and Dr. Gareth Dagnall at Department of Animal Health. In 1995, I

earned my Ph.D. degree in Veterinary Medicine/Microbiology. I returned to Jordan and joined the

Bacteriology and vaccine units, Animal Health Institute, Ministry of Agriculture for two years. In 1997, I got

a position at Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at JUST as a lecturer for two years then I promoted to assistant

professor. In 2007, I got promoted to associate professor. In 2011, I won an international award from Fulbright Collaboration Commission at Amman for academic year 2011/2012. A research grant on molecular

microbiology at Department of Microbiology and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Iowa

State University, IA, USA. I earned a certificate from the Department as I am a molecular microbiologist. On

17th August 2015 I got promoted to rank of Full Professor\ field of molecular microbiology.
