Each country has a flag that represents it. The flags come in many colors and have different shapes and symbols on them. Look at flags from countries around the world. Draw four flags, and color them correctly.

On each continent, the land is broken up into smaller areas called countries. Look at a world map. List five countries and their capital city below.

Depending on what country you are visiting, the music may sound different from what you hear on the radio at home. Your troop leader will play two songs from other countries for you. In the boxes below, write how the music makes you feel or draw a picture of what the music makes you think of.

Task 8: games

Children play games in countries all over the world. As a troop, play at least two of the games listed below that are native to other countries.

Taiwan — Five Session Passing: Divide into two teams. Draw lines on the ground forming five squares (use a stick in the dirt or chalk on concrete). People on one team should stand on the lines that are drawn, and the members from the second team stand inside the square. Kids standing on the lines should try to touch the kids who are standing inside. When someone who is inside is touched by someone standing outside, he is out. After a few minutes, switch places on the teams. Play the game again.

Mexico — Sun and Ice: Divide into two teams. The players on one team run after the other team. When a person touches you and says, “Freeze,” you can’t move. You stand still until one of the players on your team comes and touches you and says, “Sun.” Play continues until everyone decides to finish playing.

China — Caught You: One child is blindfolded or has to keep their eyes closed. He or she sits down. The rest of the kids make a circle and sit down. The leader calls start and the kids in the circle start passing around an item (like a small ball, coin, or tissue). When the child on the outside of the circle calls out, “STOP,” the passing stops. The person holding the item has to stand up and sing a song or tell a story! Then, that person switches places with the blindfolded child. Game continues.

Columbia — Oba: Children line up facing a wall. The first child takes a ball, and tries to throw it at the wall and make a movement or a crazy sound. Each child has to try to follow the leader and do the same movement and sound. You can throw with one hand, two hands, bounce it, stand on one leg, jump high, or one of your own ideas. Once everyone is through the line, the next player becomes leader and throws the ball his own way and everyone tries to follow.

Greece — Agalmata: This game is played in a large room or field. One person is “It,” and goes in the middle of the area. The person who is “It” decides how long he will count. Everyone else moves around and thinks of a statue form they can take. When “It” calls out “Agalmata” (statue), everyone freezes. If “It” sees you move, then you are out. Once no one else is moving, “It” counts again and play continues until only one person is left and they become “It.”

Leader Resource: our world - Bible Study

Genesis 11:1–9 NIRV“The whole world had only one language, and everyone spoke it. They moved to the

east and found a broad valley in Babylon. There they made their home. They said to one another, ‘Come on! Let’s make bricks and bake them well.’ They used bricks instead of stones. They used tar to hold the bricks together. Then they said, ‘Come on! Let’s build a city for ourselves. Let’s build a tower that reaches to the sky. We’ll make a name for ourselves. Then we won’t be scattered over the whole earth.’ But

the Lord came down to see the city and the tower the people were building. He said, ‘All these people are united and speak the same language. That is why they can do all this. Now they will be able to do anything they plan. Come on! Let us go down

and mix up their language. Then they will not be able to understand one other.’ So, the Lord scattered them from there over the whole earth. And they stopped building the city. There the Lord mixed up the language of the whole world. That’s why the city was called Babel. From there, the Lord scattered them over the whole earth.”

Supplies: Building blocks

Introduction: Boys, as you come in today, I want you to work together and see how tall you can get a tower to stand. Can you make one as tall as you? Can you build one as tall as me? (Give time to build towers. Encourage them to build higher and higher.)

Scripture: In the Bible, we are going to read a story about a group of people building a tall tower. Listen as I read Genesis 11:1–9. (Read the Scripture.) So, these people had time on their hands. Instead of giving attention to God and taking time to pray and spend time in worship, they were getting full of pride. So what did God do? The Lord moved people all over the world and mixed up their languages. At this point, people started speaking different languages and living spread out across this big world. Now the word “babble” means confusion because when God stopped the building of the Tower of Babel, people were confused because they no longer could understand each other.

ON TARGET!

The next time you have a difficult task and you see that you are trying to do it all on your own, stop, and ask God for help. Nothing is impossible with His care and guidance.

PRAYER

Dear Lord, We always want to make time for You. Help us not to get so wrapped up in what we are doing that we forget to praise You. You deserve our time, attention, and worship. We love You. Amen.
