Matthew Artis Task 1 Open narratives usually have many characters and no forseeable ending. a good example of Open narrative is Soap Operas, such as Eastenders and HollyOaks. They're usually multi-stranded and in Chonological order or 'Real-Time'. A closed narrative is one in which the key issues are solved at the end. For example: A film that ends with all the issues that were set up throughout the narrative brought to a close with some kind of result. A criminal brought to justice in a news story. The end of a football match and there is a final score and a definitive win. Multi strand narrative is typically used by soap operas and long running serials, which do not use the more conventional approach of beginning/middle/ending, because several storylines run at the same time, some ending whilst others are just beginning. The most important thing to understand is that there is no obvious end point to the story (where audiences could stop following without missing anything). This keeps people coming back to see what happens next. A point of view (POV) film is where the story is told from one of the characters view of the story. “Troll hunter “is a film about group of students investigates a series of mysterious bear killings, but learns that there are much more dangerous things going on. They start to follow a mysterious hunter, learning that he is actually a troll hunter. This is told from the point of view of one of the students. Task 2 Plot Twist

Task 1 Open narratives usually have many characters and no forseeable ending. a good example of Open narrative is Soap Operas, such as Eastenders and HollyOaks.

Task 2Plot Twist A plot twist is a radical change in the expected direction or outcome of the plot of a novel, film, television series, comic, video game, or other work of narrative. It is a common practice in narration used to keep the interest of an audience, usually surprising them with a revelation.

MacGuffinIn fiction, a MacGuffin is a plot device in the form of some goal, desired object, or other motivator that the protagonist pursues, often with little or no narrative explanation. The specific nature of a MacGuffin is typically unimportant to the overall plot. The most common type of MacGuffin is a person, place, or thing. Other more abstract types include victory, glory, survival, power, love, or some unexplained driving force.

Deus ex machina The term was coined from the conventions of Greek tragedy, where a machine is used to bring actors playing gods onto the stage. The machine could be either a crane used to lower actors from above or below.

Red Herring Red herring is a kind of fallacy that is an irrelevant topic introduced in an argument to divert the attention of listeners or readers from the original issue. In literature, this fallacy is often used in detective or suspense novels to mislead readers or characters or to induce them to make false conclusions.

In Media ResIn medias res means "into the middle of things." It usually describes a narrative that begins, not at the beginning of a story, but somewhere in the middle — usually at some crucial point in the action.

Task 5

Shawshank RedemptionIn this scene the set is very bland with 2 people, brick

walls and metal rails and bars. The 2 prisoners are wearing the same prison outfit and one is wearing a flat cap. Theire facial expression is very bland and stony faced to show the realities of prisons. The colours are very dull because they are grey, dark blue and black. The 2 actors are directly in the middle of the shot but looking away form the camera.
