Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning Spring 2015 Travel Course: MUMBAI BASEmumbai: The Changing Face of Urban and Rural India Faculty Leader’s Name: Mary-Ann Ray, Taubman Centennial Professor of Practice in Architecture Travel Dates: May 5th - June 7, 2015 Travel Destination: Mumbai, India The Changing Face of Urban and Rural India will be based in the center of the city of MUMBAI at the BASEmumbai Studio in the same complex as Studio Mumbai’s new urban atelier. Students will work with faculty to document the changing face of urban and rural India by working both within the city of Mumbai as well as in the rural villages outside the city. Students will work closely and collaboratively with the instructors individually or in small groups on selected projects that will be presented at or before the beginning of the program. The Changing Face of Urban and Rural India will be operated in collaboration with Bijoy Jain and Studio Mumbai. Additionally, while at the BASEmumbai studios, students will have the opportunity to design, prototype and produce objects and furniture using the resources both at BASE and beyond through outsourcing to Garment Factories, Fabric Printing Shops, Machine Shops, Welders, and Digital Fabricators in the Mumbai area.
