Save the Date: Virtual College Week April 4-6, 2017 FloridaShines, Florida’s student hub of innovative educational services, is hosting Virtual College Week April 4-6, 2017. Representatives from the Florida College System, State University System, Florida Department of Education and others will showcase information to Florida high school juniors and seniors, parents and school counselors. This no cost, live event will feature presentations from experts in the areas of college preparation, admissions, financial aid and more. Prior to the day of the presentations, FloridaShines will provide online resources to prepare students with additional materials. After the live events, FloridaShines will showcase presentation recordings and follow-up information to connect students and parents with their institutions of interest. wheyWay Old-Fashioned Word of the Day:Credit Little Miss Muffet for introducing whey to most native speakers, though in this modern age when most of us do not process dairy products at home, we find little use for the word once the nursery rhyme is mastered. As you might guess, it's an old word in English and an original, akin to the Dutch and German words for the watery part of milk.

1988 - Arizona Governor Evan Mecham was voted out of office by the Arizona Senate. Mecham was found guilty of diverting state funds to his auto business and of trying to impede an investigation into a death threat to a grand jury witness.
1990 - In the U.S., securities law violator Ivan Boesky was released from federal custody.
1991 - Pennsylvanian Senator John Heinz and six others were killed when a helicopter collided with Heinz's plane over a schoolyard in Merion, PA.
1992 - Sali Berisha became the first non-Marxist president of Albania since World War II.
1994 - Netscape Communications (Mosaic Communications) was founded.
1995 - U.S. Senator Alfonse D'Amato ridiculed judge Lance Ito using a mock Japanese accent on a nationally syndicated radio program. D'Amato apologized two days later for the act.
1999 - The Colorado Rockies and the San Diego Padres played the first major league season opener to be held in Mexico. The Rockies beat the Padres 8-2.
