Neuro-Optometric Vision Rehabilitation Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation treats the visual problems that occur in adults and children as a result of an acquired brain injury (ABI = stroke, car accident, seizure, concussion, or brain surgery), or neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s, Myasthenia Gravis or Multiple Sclerosis.

Our eyes are a part of the brain and any type of injury to the brain will most likely affect vision. Most of the patients we see have 20/20 eyesight, yet they struggle with Post Trauma Vision Syndrome or a Midline Visual Shift. To see if vision is interfering with recovery schedule a Neuro-Optometric Vision Evaluation.

Evaluation A Neuro-Optometric Vision Evaluation involves in-depth testing that goes beyond the traditional eye exam. It looks at how well your vision functions and whether a vision problem is contributing to difficulties with activities such as reading, writing, driving, walking, running, dressing, eating, shopping, using a computer or returning to work.

While the first step of the Neuro-Optometric Vision Evaluation starts with ensuring your eyes are healthy and maximizing clarity of sight, the next step is to determine if you will experience relief with lenses, tints and/or prisms. In addition, visual skills are evaluated as they relate to your work or hobbies.

Your doctor will check how well your eyes track, focus, and work together; as well as perform tests to determine if one has Post Trauma Vision Syndrome or a visual midline shift. We will also evaluate visual information processing skills, visual memory, eye-hand coordination, and peripheral vision loss or spatial neglect.

Vision problems that occur after a brain injury can range from being very subtle to dramatic. Sometimes we are able to treat the vision problems right away. The more dramatic and even subtle vision problems may require visual rehabilitation therapy.

Vision problems associated with brain injuries can be disabling and hinder independence. Often patients are told that nothing can be done to help them, but there is hope. We can help!

Treatment Specialized treatment may include one or more of the following:

§ Lenses § Prisms § Filters and Tinted Lenses § Field expanding devices § Spot or partial patches § Rehabilitative vision therapy

“Neuro-Optometric Vision Rehabilitation at Family Vision Care helps concussed patients to have even better visual skills

than before their head injury!

Vision has been a key component in the recovery of our concussed students

and athletes, as well as brain injured patients in our community.”
