Dear Parents
I am happy to welcome you to the new school term. We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure your children, our students reach their highest potential.
We are delighted that your child is part of the TCMH family! Our classes will provide each child with a safe and loving learning environment. Each day will be filled with fun and exciting adventures to help your child develop academically, socially and emotionally.
In just a short time here, I’ve noticed that parents at TCMH are engaged and enthusiastic in their support of the school. I am looking forward to working with all of you. TCMH would not be what it is without your support and the effective partnerships our teachers have built with you.
I will work diligently to continue to provide an excellent educational experience for your children.
Sincerely,
Teacher Fiona

Welcome Mrs. Fiona Koulen to TCMH I couldn’t be more excited to introduce our new Head of School, Mrs. Fiona Koulen. She comes to TCMH with a lifetime of experience in early childhood education and an advanced degree in the field as well. We have found an incredibly capable and humble leader who will serve TCMH well and who will lead this school into the next chapter.”
Ms. Koulen (Koo-lin) brings to TCMH an impressive professional background and rich experience in early childhood and elementary education. She is a progressive educator and administrator, possessing the skills, character and vision to lead and inspire our school community. We are delighted with the way in which her core values resonate and align with TCMH’s child-centric program and culture. Fiona believes in community and understands the importance of forging meaningful relationships and building consensus toward a shared vision. Committed to the child and the Montessori philosophy of lifelong learning, she will be an authentic and passionate advocate for The Children’s Montessori House.

Fostering the Love of Books
Fostering the love of books happens in many
ways: choosing quality literature, reading aloud to children, and setting up the reading corner. Helpful Practical Life lessons include how to open a book, how to turn the pages, how to put a book back on the shelf.
READING ALOUD It's important to read aloud to children often. Hearing the correct pronunciation of new words and appreciating the expressions and inflection of the teacher's voice are part of the magic of sharing a wonderful story. Be sure to review the book before reading it aloud, noting the illustrations, content, topics you could discuss afterwards, and which words might need explaining. After reading the title of the book, read the dedication page; children love hearing who the book is dedicated to.
Build cultural literacy by reading the classic stories and poetry of western culture as well as multicultural literature. Poetry stimulates the imagination and facilitates memorization and vocabulary development with its rich language and musical rhythms.
Maria Montessori recommended realistic stories for primary children (for example, books about real animals, not talking animals). Elementary-age children still love to be read to and can be introduced to myths, fairy tales and fables since they're able to differentiate between fantasy and reality.
Modeling our own love for books and the wisdom, humor, whimsy, and fascinating information they contain is one of the greatest gifts we can give to children.
