Tire Dealers Association of Western PA 2016 Scholarship Fund In 2016 the TDA of WPA will award two (2) $1000.00 College Scholarships to a Member’s son, daughter, stepson or stepdaughter or grandchild. The applicant must be the child, step child or grandchild of a current member or employee of the member of the TDA of WPA and will have graduated from high school in 2016 who is planning to or is already attending college, trade school or business school. To be eligible the member must submit the below application to the association postmarked by July 10, 2016. No phone, fax or email applications will be accepted. The PA Daily number game on August 1, 2016 will be used to determine the winning numbers. Each valid applicant will be given a 3 digit number for the daytime and the evening drawing. The applicant that holds the number closest without going over it on the daytime number will receive 1 of the awards. The 2nd award will go to the person holding the number closest without going over it on the evening drawing. In the evening drawing if all numbers are over, the lowest number over it will be the winner The TDA of WPA Board of Directors will vote to resolve any disputes. In the event only one application is received then only one scholarship will be awarded. The Scholarship check will be made out to the student and the school of his/her choice. President Bill’s Monthly Message

PAGE 3

Hello and happy spring to all! I’d like to start this newsletter off with sad, but good news according to our vice president Shaun Fitzgerald of The Western Pennsylvania Tire Dealers Association and author of the Fitz report in our monthly newsletter. Mr. Fitzgerald, long em-ployee of Flynn’s Tire, has taken a new position outside the state of Pennsylvania. He still remains in the tire industry, and as this oppor-tunity knocks for him, we wish him a happy and prosperous transition no matter where life takes him. I would also like to personally thank him for all his efforts and hard work to make us a better organization. I am certain he’ll be an asset to any organization which he chooses to take part in going forward. Thank you again Mr. Fitzgerald.

Now on to business! In the up and coming months we’re determined to provide our members with more tire dealer related content. With all the great feedback we’ve received with our most recent meeting/training, we’re excited to see movements been made in the correct di-rection. Please remember to mark your calendar for the next dealer’s meeting coming May the 25th at the Monroeville Holiday Inn! At this meeting, we will have greet as usual from 6.30-7.00PM. This will be followed by our general session starting at 7.00PM. We are still in ne-gotiation with some speakers for this event that’s guaranteed to be tire business related of course. Information will be available to you in the next newsletter. We’re attempting to provide this information sooner VIA email if possible. I would again like to thank every one of our members, past and present for making this association possible. Lastly, I would like to wish to all a happy, successful, and prosperous spring. LETS SELL SOME TIRES !!!!

The FITZ Report: Legislative update on issues impacting tire dealers. This page is dedicated to keeping our members informed of legislation and regulations that our elected offi-

cials and bureaucrats in Harrisburg and Washington are proposing.

OSHA to raise fines: OSHA will be raising fines by 80% later this year and they will be 6 months retroactive which means the new higher fine levels will be ap-plied to all current unresolved cases. The Federal Civil Penalties In-flation Adjustment Act of 1990 exempted OSHA from increasing its penalties to account for inflation. The new budget, signed into law by President Obama, contains an amendment that ends this exception. OSHA now will be allowed to adjust its penalties based on inflation each year. In 2015, OSHA conducted over 40,000 inspections and is planning on exceeding that number in 2017. A large percentage of the inspections were conducted on those in the tire/automotive repair in-dustry and some dealers faced fines of tens of thousands of dollars for inconsequential violations. My Final FITZ Report: This is my final FITZ Report. I am not leaving the tire industry but am however leaving Western Pennsylvania to accept a position with an independent tire dealer located in Tennessee. It has been my honor to serve The Tire Dealers Association of Western PA and its members. I have many great friends within the tire dealerships that are members and will miss this area. Thank you for allowing me to serve as your Vice President these past few months. Shaun Fitzgerald

NEWS RELEASE FOR MORE INFORMATION Date: Jan. 11, 2016 Contact: Carley Hull, 330-670-1234 x270 CALL FOR ENTRIES: 2016 Tire Review Top Shop Awards Opens 10th Year Prestigious Award Recognizes Outstanding Tire Dealer Businesses (AKRON, OH) Now in its 10th year, the industry-leading Tire Review Top Shop Awards program seeks to honor the “best of the best” independent tire dealers with bigger prizes and a special Top Shop Awards 10th Anniversary Celebration planned for Nashville, Tenn. The entry period for the 2016 Tire Review Top Shop Awards is now open and will run through June 3. The entry form and information are now available online exclusively at the Top Shop Awards section of the Tire Review website at tirereview.com/top_shop. Entries can be completed and submitted online. The Tire Review Top Shop Awards spotlight independent tire dealers – retail, commercial or wholesale – that epitomize the attributes and values stressed in every issue of Tire Review: exemplary customer service and retention, training and education, merchandising and promotion, professional standards and conduct, innovation, appearance, business management, community involvement, business growth, achievement and innovation. All of the winners and finalists are profiled on the Tire Review website and in a special Top Shop section of Tire Review’s October issue. In celebration of the Top Shop Awards’ 10th anniversary, the winner and finalists’ prize money has been increased. The Winner will now receive $2,500 in cash and the three Finalists will each receive $1,000 in cash. In addition to the prize money, the Winner will receive a brand new Coats 70X-L Leverless Rim Clamp® tire changer, airfare and hotel for two (2 nights/3 days) to the 2016 Global Tire Expo/SEMA Show, and a Top Shop trophy to display in their dealership. The three Finalists will each receive a Coats 1250-3DV tire/wheel balancer (featuring on-board training) and a specially designed finalist trophy. “It is a credit to the quality of dealers honored by this program that the Top Shop Awards have earned the respect of everyone in the tire industry, and have clearly become the premier honor for North American tire dealers,” said Jim Smith, editor of Tire Review magazine. “Every participant, not just the Winners or Finalists, tell us how important the honor is to the industry and how grateful they are that there is a program that recognizes the success and accomplishments of dealers of all sizes and types.” Dealers can nominate their own businesses, or others can nominate tire dealer businesses. The entry process is simple: Those making the nomination need to provide basic informa-tion about the dealership being nominated and write a short (300-word maximum) essay
