Governor, A&N Islands, Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM,NM, VSM (Retd.) held a meeting at Raj Niwas today to review the progressof filling up of the vacancies in various Departments of the Administration.The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration alongwith other Secretaries &Heads of Departments were present, wherein progress made in filling upthe vacancies by the respective Departments after the last meeting wasreviewed.The Lt. Governor noted that a number of DPCs to fill up approximately500 vacancies under the promotional quota in various departments ofthe Administration have already been held in the last one to two monthsand that the consequent promotion orders for the same are likely to beissued by the respective Departments within the next few days.Simultaneously, while reviewing the progress, the Lt. Governor directedthat all the Departments should invariably make all out efforts to fill upthe resultant balance promotional vacancies and also to initiate andcomplete the process of filling up the vacancies under the directrecruitment quota at the earliest.

Shri Bishnu Pada Ray met
the Minister of HRD, Shri
Prakash Javedekar today
and requested for
exemption of re-
examination of Economic
subject for Class 12
students of this UT
Islands. The MP besides
submitting a fresh letter
also presented various
points to protect the
interest of the students of
this UT Islands. He
mentioned that the matter
regarding paper leakage
was verified with various
intelligence agencies as
well as print media &
electronic media of this UT
Islands and as such there
was no information of
paper leakage for any
subject of 12th standard so
far. Similarly, there are no
reports or evidence to
prove that the Economics
question paper has been
leaked in this UT Islands,
until it was declared by the
CBSE, that too after the
students had given the
examination for economic
subject.
Meanwhile, in the year of
2011, there was an issue of
question paper leak, in
which the CBSE had taken
the matter seriously and
conducted a fresh
examination exclusively for
the A & N Islands. The
Nodal Department i.e. the
Education Department also
has not received any such
report of leakage of
question paper from the
Centre Superintendents of
various examination centre
of this UT Islands. After

students seeking

to 22, 2018. This year, the
concept of ITF has been
redeveloped right from
selection of the venue to
mapping of activities for
making it more relevant
and attractive for Tourists
and Islanders alike. The
new venue of ITF will
consist of Marina Park,
Road adjoining Marina
Park, Rajiv Gandhi Water
sports Complex, Netaji
Stadium, Andaman Club,
Fisheries Museums and
Govt. Girls Sr. Sec. School
campus. The range of
activities will comprise of
delicious food courts,
handicraft sales, puppet
show apart from adventure
water sports, cultural
activities from cultural
troupes across the India as
well the Islands besides
Heritage Walks. The stalls
coming up in the area will
be based on the theme
Tourism promotion.
Flea Market will also be
setup as part of ITF for
promotions of local
craftsman and unemployed
local youths. The range of
Island Tourism Festival to beheld from April 18 to 22
Variety of activities & programmes on cardactivities will further
comprise of traditional
sports (pillow fight, cock
fight, lattu, marble, sack
race, musical chair, mock
canoe race and many more)
and Water Sports
Competitions viz. kayak,
canoe, swimming etc.
during the festival which
will be open to all. Apart

competitions and kite
making workshop, Bird
watching workshop will be
conducted by ZSI.

mechanism in Andaman &
Nicobar Islands, exercise
'Sagar Kavach' will be
conducted from April 3 to
4, 2018. The Coast Guard,
being the coordinating
agency for Coastal Security
in territorial waters will
coordinate the exercise on
behalf of the A&N
Administration and
Andaman & Nicobar
Command. Exercise Sagar
Kavach is conducted twice
every year with an
objective to evaluate the
seaward threat to A&N
Islands and validate
Coastal security exercise 'Sagar Kavach' to begin in Isles today
Fishing community & coastal population urged
to act as 'eyes and ears' for security agencies
existing standard operating
procedures.
The exercise will be
participated by
stakeholders including
Navy, Army, Air Force,
A&N Police, PMF, Forest,
Fisheries, Customs, PMB,
DSS and various
intelligence agencies.
Fishing community and
coastal population will also
part of exercise. Various
community awareness
programs have been
conducted to sensitize the
fishing / coastal
community on security
aspects.
Heightened security
measures will be initiated at
all the public places and
vital areas. Various check
posts and roving patrols
will be activated in all the
Islands. Fishing
community and coastal
population have been
requested to inform Coast
Guard and Police on any
suspicious activities or
eventualities and act as
eyes and ears for security
agencies. The help line
number of Coast Guard
1554 and Marine Police
1093 will be manned 24X7,
a communique received
from PRO Coast Guard said.
'Island Tourism Festival'

John Isner punctuated his
unexpected run to the Miami
Open title with a surprising
display of agility, dancing across
the court while basking in a
breakthrough. The 6-foot-10
Isner looked twice as tall
skipping about with a grin
brighter than the Florida
sunshine. He had just won the
biggest title of his 14-year
career, holding every service
game and ral lying past
Alexander Zverev 6-7 (4), 6-
4, 6-4 on Sunday. Isner, who
turns 33 this month, previously
had been 0-3 in ATP Masters
1000 finals.
“You can’t replicate moments like
this,” Isner said during the
trophy ceremony. “I’m toward
the latter part of my career; this
is the best moment of my
career.”

Rafael Nadal reclaimed top
spot in the men's ATP rankings
on Monday with Swiss rival
Roger Federer slipping to the
second spot following his defeat
to American John Isner at the
Miami Open. Nadal, who hasn't
hit a ball in anger since pulling
out of the Australian Open
quarter-finals in January, saw
Federer take over top spot on
February 18. The Swiss veteran,
however, slipped 10 points
behind his Spanish rival and into
second place after a second-
round defeat to Isner that saw the
towering American leap eight
places to ninth thanks to his
eventual victory Sunday in the
Masters 1000 event. Isner thus
equals his previous best ranking
of ninth, reached in April 2012,
while beaten finalist Alexander
Zverev of Germany moved up
one place to fourth. South Korea's
Hyeon Chung meanwhile
continued to chip away at the
rankings, the 21-year-old
breaking into the top 20, to 19th,
for the first time in his fledgling
career thanks to his quarter-
final appearance in Miami.

has grabbed the number one
ranking among bowlers in the
ICC Women's T20I Player
Rankings after her fine effort in
the tri-series in India.
Schutt picked up three for 14 in
the final against England to finish
with nine wickets in the
tournament.
Her performance not only
contributed to her team's victory
in the final but also helped her
move up to reclaim a position
she held briefly last year.
In the latest rankings, which also
take into account the three-match
series between Sri Lanka and
Pakistan, which the latter won
