NURSING
Matthew Lutze
Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner)
Authorised Nurse Practitioner in Emergency at Canterbury Hospital
“It was a tough decision to go back and do another master’s degree, but I’ve always wanted to work as a Nurse Practitioner. I had a long discussion with the course coordinator which was instrumental in motivating me to study again.
Studying at UTS provided an opportunity for me to learn amongst some of the most exceptional clinicians and lecturers in the field of nursing. Having the opportunity to rub shoulders with them is a great motivator for wanting to further your studies and career.
The course was challenging but really prepares you well to deal with the rigors and demands required to authorise and continue to practice as a Nurse Practitioner.
Completing this course was one of the most satisfying experiences I have ever had in my career. It has gifted me with the opportunity to practice at the highest level of clinical nursing, empowers me to address the issue of equity and access to health care for so many Australians, and allows me to provide the exceptional care I have always strived to deliver.”
“ Completing the course empowered me to address the issue of equity and access to health care, and allows me to provide exceptional care.”Matthew Lutze Master’s graduate

NURSING
Anne Stirling
Graduate Certificate in Critical Care Nursing
Clinical Emergency CoordinatorRoyal Prince Alfred HospitalAnaesthetic Department
"Before studying at UTS, I was a Registered Nurse in ICU and had been for a while. Studying made me realise how little I knew and how much more there was to it.
I chose to study at UTS because the course was supported by my unit through the Clinical Accreditation Program and previous students spoke highly of the course. I had a great experience – the course required both academic as well as clinical skills assessments which I think is essential to ensure you can relate theory to practice and demonstrate practical skills.
Professionally, I've gained a lot from my studies. I feel that I've improved both clinically and academically. Soon after completing my graduate certificate I filled more senior roles in the ICU and I am now the Clinical Emergency Response System (CERS) Coordinator (CNC) at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. I love what I am doing right now, though I'd probably like to do some more studying at some point."

“When I was looking at where to study, UTS stood out because of its great reputation and convenient location.
Postgraduate study is hard work – you have to balance completing your portfolio, shift work and uni work, plus your personal life as well! It’s definitely achievable though and I’m finding it really rewarding, especially the way you get to work with women from day one.
The classes are really practical and our lecturers inspire us to practice women centred care. The small number of students means we get to know each other and our teachers, so there’s a lot of support.
I’d recommend this course to anyone who is passionate about becoming a midwife. It takes a lot of commitment, but it is only one year to gain a qualification where you can have a positive impact on a lot of people’s lives.”

Health Services ManagementOur existing programs have been strengthened in consultation with leading Health Service Managers to ensure that graduates are competent in the skills required to operate in this new information-driven environment.
The courses are designed to equip students with a unique blend of health-focused management and business skills. Subjects take into account current trends worldwide to innovate in the areas of access efficiency, and effectiveness of health services, as well as the recently implemented Australian National Health Reform Agreement. This is essential as health service managers will be expected to be familiar with new initiatives such as activity based funding and national performance measures and standards in order to improve transparency and accountability of health care delivery.

Health Services PlanningIncreasingly recognised as a separate discipline, Health Services Planning is a niche, but critical role in Health Services as they evolve, expand and restructure. Health planners conduct needs analysis, develop goals and strategies, select appropriate interventions and manage change in highly complex and robust environments. They are employed in health departments, local health networks and districts, or in private or corporate consultancy positions.
These courses have been re-developed in consultation with senior planning staff from NSW and Qld Health to ensure students are exposed to a variety of contemporary planning methodologies. As the only degree level courses taught by practising senior health planners in Australia, these courses are ideal for experienced planners wishing to strengthen their skills or obtain formal qualifications, recently appointed planners with little knowledge in the field, and those who are interested in pursuing a career in this area.
