Kia ora I’m Keitha Pokiha and I am 19 years of age.

I am currently studying at Bay of Plenty Polytechnic in Tauranga.

My short term goal is to drive trucks and heavy machinery and head overseas to earn for 6 to 7 years.

Long term is to be living in NZ and working with troubled youth and teaching Kapa Haka and life skills I have learnt along the way. I have been involved in Kapa haka since I was 5 years and have continued right up until now.

I have performed for Paeroa Central School where I became Kaea and won the Kaea Award that year at the Hauraki Kapa Haka Festival which is held annually.

I went to Boarding School in 2009 and attended Turakina Maori Girls College in Marton. I enjoyed the College and found a love for history, Maori, maths, tourism and Kapa Haka.

I grew and learnt so much skills and knowledge while living away from home.

I learnt to become independent but also to count on my fellow friends who I call my sisters to this day. We were all in the same vote with living away from our whanau for the first time. This where I found my passion for Kapa Haka from Turakina Maori Girls College they taught me how to play guitar and com-pose waiata, put actions to the waiata and find a tune to compliment it. It ‘s not easy it takes research, time and commitment and I’m learning this at this age how many hours and hours of work it can be.

Once you see it performed in the way you want it all those hours you put in is worth it.

My Mum, Dad and Whanau have always been my support and driving factor for me to do my best, with-out them I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing. Currently I ‘m employed at Downers part time and study-ing at Bay of Plenty Polytechnic in Tauranga. This helps me pay to help our kids. “Its all about the kids”

My name is Alzaviah Te Moananui and I am 13 years old. I live in Paeroa and attend Pae-roa College this being my first year.

I have been involved with Paeroa Central Senior Kapa Haka group and was Kaea (Leader) in which I received certificates and a trophy for Whaikorero and Haka.

I love Kapa Haka and learning traditions and practices of our tupuna. (Ancestors)

My name is Aroha Wiperi and I am 12 years old.

I am a descendant of Ngati Tāwhaki. I enjoy music especially singing and guitar.

I play many sports including Rippa Rugby, Touch and Netball.

I attend Paeroa College and although I have lived in many places I am from Pae-roa.

I have been involved in Kapa Haka for 4 years and have successfully competed in the Hauraki Kapa Haka Festival.

I was born in Waihi and live in Paeroa New Zealand and I have four siblings,

I love Sports and Kapa Haka.

I have experience in Kapa Haka I was part of the Hauraki Kapa Haka Festival 2014 in the Paeroa Central School Senior section.

This year in January I competed in the Waka Ama Nationals it was an awesome experience.

I’m from Paeroa Hauraki and I have lived there all my life.

I have been involved in Kapa Haka (performing arts) before and all my experi-ences have been great.

Kia ora my name is Kimiora Wickliffe and I am 14 years old. I live with my whanau (family) and friends.

I was born in a City Waikato. I was raised at where my beautiful mother was born and also very well known for the L&P Paeroa.

My most favourite hobbies are staying home with my wonderful family. I attend Paeroa College and enjoy learning and hanging out with my best friends.

For me Kapa Haka started at Primary School I’m really fierce with the pukana (protruding tongue) and enjoy Haka.

I was born in Thames and I am from Paeroa New Zealand.

My tribe is Ngati Tara, Tokanui, and Ngati Tāwhaki.

I love all Sport and have represented in Touch Nationals and Rugby league.

I have been involved with Kapa Haka performing at the Hau-raki Kapa Haka Festival for Paeroa Central School.

Haka (war dance) is my favourite it brings out the Warrior.

Kia ora my name is Saffron Wickliffe and I am 12 years old.

I am a Year 8 and currently attending Paeroa Central School I have been there for 4 years this will be my last year.

I was born in Hamilton and lived there with my Koko and Nan ever since I was 3 years old. At 8 years old my whanau decided to move back to Paeroa.

My Mum was born Paeroa and lived there most of her life. My Dad was born in Waikino I have 1 brother and 1 sister.

I ‘ve been involved with Kapa Haka since I was 7 years old and still do today. I have been Kaea twice for Paeroa Central School and Horotiu. I enjoy Kapa Haka because it feels like I’m in a safe environment. Its like I’m becoming closer to my culture.

My name is Serena Taukiri and I am 14 years old.

I am a year 10 currently attending Paeroa College. I’m from Paeroa, I have lived here most of my life.

Both my parents were born in Paeroa. My Mum descends from the East Coast (Ngati Porou) and my Dad is from Hauraki.

I am the youngest of all my siblings, I have 3 older siblings and 2 whāngai (adopted) younger brothers.

From my years at Primary, starting at Year 6 onwards to year 9 I’ve been selected as a representative Netball player for Paeroa and I have been in Thames Valley Basketball. I’ve been involved with Kapa Haka (performing arts) for a few years ad I enjoy it heaps.

Kia ora my name is Steven and I am 15 years old.

I go to Thames High School and like to play Sport.

I have two sisters one older and one younger.

I descend from Ngati Awa on my Dads side and Ngati Tama Te Ra and Ngati Hako on my Mums side.

I’ve done a couple of performances in the Hauraki Kapa Haka Festival and won or placed second. When we won I felt proud holding our certificates and trophies. The feeling was so Mean.

I am from Paeroa but have links to Te Kauwhata. My Mum was born in

Palmerston North then moved to Te Aroha.

My Dad was born in Te Aroha and grew up in Paeroa where we live today.

I have an older sister Shyann and a younger sister Skye and brother Nature, I also have Dalvanius and Natasha.

I have previous experience in Kapa Haka with Paeroa Central School. Keitha Pokiha was our Tutor last year and we did Mean.

I go to Thames High School as a Year 10 student.

Sports and Kapa Haka are my main strengths as well as singing.

I descend from Whakatane and Hauraki.

I was born in Thames and have lived all over the motu. (island)

I have two older siblings. For me Kapa Haka started in 2011 I was Kaea (leader) in 2013 for Thames South School and won the section.

My goals one day is to develop my skills and become a Kapa Haka tutor and a

Marine Biologist.

Kia ora my Maori domain has always been apart of my life ever since before birth. My mother, and father sang Maori waiata and korero Maori to me in the womb before sending me to Ko-hanga Reo where I learnt more Te Reo Maori and Kapa Haka as well as Karakia.

I lived in Auckland for most of my life and every school I attended I was either the bilingual or Maori unit.

I have been to numerous amounts of Kapa Haka competitions such as Te Ahurea (Maori Festi-val), Auckland, Mataatua and Tainui regional Kapa Haka.

I have stood on paepae many times to whaikōrero and always kept in touch with my taha Maori.

I was given the opportunity to be Kaiwero for the 30th birthday of Mataatua Marae ki Mangere and earned my very own taiaha. I am qualified to teach Waka Ama and Kapa Haka as I have completed a National Certificate in both these areas. I am currently in a Senior Kapa Haka group and am a tutor for a Kapa Haka group that is filled with potential young leaders. I am a father of one and have a full time job at Nga Iwi FM as an announcer, producer and researcher. My aspiration is to lead our young people and be a beacon of hope and light for them in times of darkness as a Maori youth advisor or ambassador for youth.

My name is Johnson Renata and I am 15 years old. I am the second eldest from awhanau (family) of 5.

I am currently a student at Paeroa College and starting NCEA level 1.

I’m into learning new things and want to learn how to play instruments, learn aboutMaori traditions I loveTe Reo Maori (language), and Maori history.

I really enjoy it because Maori is something that I really want to learn. I’m a big fan ofSports and will play any sport or game that is thrown at me.

School wise I like English especially essays, also Maths is one of my strong points

basically I am great with numbers.

When I’m older I would like to do lots of travelling, so I can learn about the world andother cultures.

I’ve had one job which was Event Fun. I received Excellence in P.E and earned a trophyfor leading Paeroa Central School.
