federal aid students must complete the Free Application for Financial Student Aid (FAFSA).
The priority deadline for submitting the FAFSA is March each year!

Cal Grant A Community College
Transfer Entitlement Award
• Available to Community College transfer students who were not awarded a Cal Grant A or B within a year of graduating high school.

CAL T (CAL GRANT EXTENSION FOR TEACHING CREDENTIALS)
• If you have had a CAL grant as an undergraduate and you are continuing your education by entering a teacher credential program, you may qualify for a one-year extension.
• You must file an application for the extension

Applying for Cal Grants
• Must submit the FAFSA• Undergraduate students must also
submit a GPA Verification Form• Credential Program students must also
submit a “Request for Cal Grant Teaching Credential Program Benefits” Form (California Student Aid Commission form # G-44)

Federal Pell Grant Pell Grants are generally awarded to
undergraduate students—those who haven't earned a bachelor's or graduate degree.
In limited cases however, you could receive a Pell Grant if you're enrolled in a post-baccalaureate teacher certificate program.

TEACH GRANTS Available beginning July of 2008 $4,000 per year for undergraduate and credential work (for a
maximum of $16,000) Must have a minimum 3.25 GPA Must submit the FAFSA by March 2, 2008 Must be currently completing (or plan on completing)
coursework necessary to begin a career in teaching Mist meet basic eligibility requirements Must teach in a high-need field:
mathematics, science, foreign language, special education, bilingual education, reading specialist or other documented high-need fields
Must commit to teaching full-time in a high-need school for a minimum of four years (within 8 years of receiving your credential)
If teaching service is not met, the grant must be repaid as an Unsubsidized Stafford Loan

FEDERAL STAFFORD LOANS
• Must be enrolled in an eligible program at least half time
• Must meet general eligibility requirements
• Variable interest rate (might change each year) but does not exceed
8.25%
• Apply using the FAFSA or Renewal FAFSA by March 2nd
• Must sign a promissory note from your lender or from your school
depending on the type of loan

FFEL STAFFORD LOANS
Undergraduate / graduate students; must be enrolled at least half time
Loan limits depend on your year in school and whether you are a dependant student
For subsidized loans you pay no interest while you are in school
Unsubsidized loans require you to pay the interest while you are attending school

FEDERAL LOAN FORGIVENESS FOR TEACHERS PROGRAM
Stafford Loans– both Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) and Direct Loan Program
You must be employed as a full-time teacher at a qualifying school for five complete and consecutive years
Will pay back up to $17,500 to highly qualified teachers of math and science
After completion of five years of service obtain an application from your Lender or

Tips for Standing Out in the Scholarship Competition
Follow all directions (everything requested for the scholarship application process)
Include a color photo
Include a table of contents in your application packet (application, essay, letters of recommendation, transcripts, cover letter, photo, etc.)
Use some color in your application packet (color digital photo, colored paper for table of contents, etc.)
Submit originals whenever you can, only first generation Xerox (copy)
Bind materials into a brightly colored report folder (so that it won’t come apart)
Mail flat (not folded) in a large envelope
