Why is it important to control Office 365 Group creation? We need to control Office 365 Group creation so
Only users of Office 365 services that require Office 365 Groups creation are allowed to create them.
An O365 Group in Azure AD gets created AUTOMATICALLY when a new Plan is created in Microsoft Planner/ New Microsoft Team is created.
Restricting Groups creation to disable users stops the above from happening. Controlling users from creating O365 Group does NOT impact the ability of all
licensed users to participates in group activities, such as creating tasks in Planner, or responding to conversations in Outlook.
Manage Office 365 Groups
Disable group creation by End-User via PowerShell Scripts Only Global Admins can run these cmdlets We can migrate existing distribution list to Office 365 Groups to avail all the
components in Office 365 Groups Managing Office 365 Group Creation
Recommendation for Groups Administration
Default Limitations: Office 365 users can create up to 250 Office 365 Groups each. Office 365 admins have NO limit on the number of Office 365 Groups that they can
create, The default maximum number of Office 365 Groups that an Office 365 organization
can have is currently 500,000, but can be increased by request. For more information on Office 365 Groups limits, see Office 365 Groups - Admin help
