Teamwork pays off at Sport CityA major development in Manchester was assured by theproactive teamworking approach of the customer’s engineer, thecontractor and his environmental design team, a solutiondesigner and Tritech. The presence of two deep coal miningshafts within the site posed a considerable risk to futuredevelopment. The team worked in close liaison with the CoalAuthority to develop a solution that included grouting of theplugged shafts to a depth of 100m, grouting the area around theshafts to a depth of 40m and contiguous piled containmentstructures.
Tritech carried out the contiguous piled containment structuressinking 1200mm diameter bored cast insitu piles to a depth of20m. the piles were socketed in the rockhead and propped bya reinforced concrete cap structure in the case of one shaft anda reinforced concrete collar in the other. The solution developedand installed opened up the site for future development realisingsignificant future value for the developer and benefit for theresidents of the local and regional area.

Who we are Tritech Piling and Foundations Limited was formed in 1996 and acquiredby A E Yates Limited in 2006. It has undergone a major expansion to itsfleet of piling rigs, plant and equipment and is now a market leader in alltypes of foundation piling. They operate nationwide and use theirspecialist experience to offer best value cost effective solutions to theircustomers. Solutions are developed for projects from £20,000 to£2,000,000.

What we doSolutions are developed for projects from £20,000 to £2,000,000 basedon the following techniques to suit any customer requirement or need;
• Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) Piling – augered concrete pilesdriven with little vibration to a predetermined depth controlled andmeasured by sophisticated instrumentation on the rig.
• Rotary Piling – works well in stiff clay and good ground where thebore does not require support.
• Driven Piling – generally refers to precast concrete piling in whichlong sections (usually 14m) are driven and then mechanicallyjointed to the next section.
• Vibro Concrete Columns (VCC) - can be installed quickly incomparison to other piling methods and they are very good forstabilising the ground in soft conditions.
• Mini Piling - often used for underpinning.
• Tripod Piling - excellent in a restricted access situation
• Retaining Walls - contiguous and secant bored pile walls commonlyused to support the sides of basement, tank or bunker excavations
Our Credentials
How we do itWe work mainly on a Contractor Design basis providing pile designbased on information provided by the customer. Following checkingand acceptance of the design we procure the materials and provideand manage the labour and plant to carry out site installation inaccordance with the customer’s programme whilst reinforcing ourenviable health and safety record.
We have the ability to design a wide variety of piled solutions utilisingour bespoke pile design software. We can design both single pile andgroup pile layouts, all forms of retaining wall structures, contiguouswalls, secant walls, shafts, post and panel walls, and sheet piled walls.We can also undertake the complete foundation design including theproduction of reinforcement drawings and schedules.
Site works are carried out by trained, competent and experiencedoperators and crews, utilising our own rigs and plant in the main,managed by supervisors as appropriate. Off site managers are regularvisitors monitoring all aspects of performance and liaising withcustomer representatives.
Working with our sister company SPI Appleton steel sheet, tubular anduniversal bearing pile capability is offered. Again site works are carriedout by our own crews and rigs.
