21st-century students need a 21st-century approach.
Today’s students have spent their entire lives surrounded by information
in a variety of mediums. Asking students to construct and showcase their
knowledge using technologies they find exciting makes classroom learning
relevant.
Tech4Learning produces software tools that provide a platform students
can use to share knowledge and understanding, communicate original
ideas and solutions, and share their passions with a worldwide audience.
Tech4Learning tools help students develop 21st-century skills, including:
• Creativity and Innovation as they develop, implement, and communicate ideas and
demonstrate originality and inventiveness.
• Critical Thinking and Problem Solving as they frame, analyze, and synthesize information
to solve problems and answer questions.
• Communication and Collaboration as they articulate thoughts and ideas clearly and
effectively and share responsibility for collaborative work.
Your best partner in educational technology
“Over the past 10 years, Tech4Learning has been fortunate to work with educators who
care about our products as much as we do. Districts adopt and implement our tools and
then tell us how to make them better. Teachers constantly amaze us with the samples
of student work they share, consistently challenging our assumptions.
When a first-grade teacher showed us the animations her “babies” were creating by
combining Frames with Twist, we were blown away. The way her students use the software
redefined our conceptual framework for both of these tools. With feedback like this, our
products improve and evolve in ways that we could never have conceived on our own.
We are thankful that our customers are willing to let us into their classrooms, sharing
their valuable time to show and tell us how to make our products better. ”

Innovative Educator Program
The Tech4Learning Innovation Educator (TIE) award program recognizes outstanding educators and showcases the projects they have done with their students. Every year, Tech4Learning selects a class of educators for this special award based on effective technology innovation and integration.

Tools to help you support learning for all student populations
The goal of education in the 21st century is not simply the accumulation of knowledge, but the mastery of learning. With today’s diverse classrooms, a Universal Design for Learning (UDL) approach to education is essential. Initially intended to address special-needs learners, UDL has become a cornerstone in effective learning by recognizing that every learner is unique and advocating multiple approaches to meet the needs of diverse learners.
Tech4Learning tools provide students a range of options for expression, allowing students with a variety of abilities and backgrounds to successfully articulate what they know. Students can use a scaffolded activity to demonstrate comprehension, or respond to a question by creating their own original art piece, narrated video, or written storybook.
English Language LearnersTech4Learning tools help struggling readers, reluctant writers,
and English Language Learners showcase their expertise using
text, pictures, animation, video, narration, music, and more. Pixie,
WebBlender, and Frames can also run in Spanish.
Students with Special NeedsIf students are using an accessible keyboard with Pixie, Frames,
or WebBlender, the board can be programmed for almost all
program functions.
Students with Limited Technology ExperienceDesigned for novice users and everyday classroom use,
Tech4Learning tools can be implemented without extensive
training. A consistent user interface makes it easy for students to
move between tools.

“I have always felt that children learn
best by doing, and computers can
engage and motivate students where
simple pencil and paper tasks will not.
My focus this year has been on digital
storytelling, which is a powerful way
for students to showcase their writing
across the curriculum. Students at
Pepper Drive Elementary have been
using Pixie to illustrate their own
digital stories on topics as diverse as
prepositions, explorers, similes, human
body systems, descriptive writing, and
life in the sea.

Language Arts Retell, compare, modernize, or create a fairy-tale book or video story.
Science Develop podcast tours of habitats, processes, and life cycles.
Math Illustrate word problems to visualize abstract concepts.
Social Studies Design geographic, regional, and economic maps.
Art Create original masterpieces in the style of famous artists.
Curriculum Connections
Working on these projects produces in
students enduring understandings and
learning that cannot be accomplished
through lecture and worksheets. When
students know that they will have an
audience for their work, they are much
more careful to check their sources,
proofread their work, and create quality
images. With Pixie 2, it is so easy to
showcase student work in movie format
that literally a kindergartener can do it.”

“Our school has been experimenting with the use of podcasting as a means of exploring student multimedia development. Our librarian had just
finished teaching our second grade a series of lessons about fables, and I thought that Pixie would be a great tool for students to use to create illustrations.
I gave each of the students a line or two from the fable, “The Ant and the Grasshopper.” We discussed how the voice of each of the characters
was important and how to write with quotation marks to show when a character is speaking. Each student created a picture to show the characters, setting, and mood of the line from the fable. I was impressed with the ease they were able to create their pictures with only a few minutes of introduction
to the Pixie interface.
Once they were done, we exported all of the pictures to a podcast and wound up with a great example of an interdisciplinary multimedia project!”

“As a child, there are few things as
magical as a story told in pictures that
move, and I wanted my students to
experience the thrill of creating their own
original animated movies. I introduced
the kids to Frames by teaching them how
to animate a bouncing ball. Our first
animation project was such a success
that I decided to make animation part of
my fourth-grade program.
Since my computer lab is too crowded
for working with clay, I encouraged my

“I have been teaching our district’s technology
education curriculum for three years. Despite
my visual arts background, I did not enjoy
teaching the graphic arts unit. . . until we
started using ImageBlender! The tool we were
using previously was slow and cumbersome
for my eigth-grade students, and it took a long
time and a lot of patience to use.
Switching to ImageBlender was exactly what
this unit needed. Students learned the basics
of ImageBlender using the Snacks from
Recipes4Success.com and were soon working
and learning the program on their own.
I then introduced the students to Andy
Warhol and Pop Art. Using the integrated
Pics4Learning resource, students found
copyright-free images to represent pop
culture. Using ImageBlender’s many
effects and photo manipulation tools, they
created 4 or 9 versions of the same image
and tiled them together in one document.
Each student’s finished product was a
masterpiece that Warhol himself would be
proud of!”

“After working as a trainer with
Tech4Learning to deliver many
different content integration
workshops, I recently had the
pleasure of serving as a coach
during a ProjectLearn Academy. I saw
participants come into the academy
full of questions about project-based
learning and unsure of the process. By
week’s end, they left armed with the
necessary skills and tools to create
authentic, content-rich projects with
their classes.
During the Project Learn Academy,
participants planned projects and
activities and made quality samples
of what their students might
create when completing their own
work. They also designed graphic
organizers and grading rubrics to
support their projects. What was
once foreign and unknown became
familiar and inviting. There was an air
of excitement and anticipation as the
participants left our trainings, eager
to share what they learned with their
students when classes resumed after
the summer break.”
ProjectLearn Academies give participants the experience of learning in a project-
based setting and exploring how to use PBL to meet standards and improve student
achievement. Participants develop the skills necessary to support students
throughout the process of planning, working in collaborative groups, and learning
in a project-based setting.
Each ProjectLearn Academy is a highly customized experience designed specifically
to meet your unique objectives and to work with your existing technologies.

Frames™
Frames is the perfect storytelling tool. Students can use Frames to create stop-motion animated stories
of science processes, video biographies of historical figures, animated math solutions, and trailers for
books they have read.
Students can create stop-motion animated stories using pictures from a digital or DV camera, photographs
of a clay animation, or pictures they draw in Pixie or Twist. Students can save their work as video or
animation files to share online, in multimedia presentations, or for inclusion in other video productions.
