1. Introduction

1.1 What is ‘NICE for Registration’?

‘NICE for registration’ is an application extracted from the NICE application, used exclusively for front/back registration adjustment.

‘NICE for registration’ can also be used by operators.

This SD card supports all the models listed below.

Version of ‘NICE for Registration’ is dependent on the system/copy firmware version. Make sure to apply the following firmware version combination.

1.4 Front and back registration adjustment

1.4.1 Method Automatically adjust the front/back registration by scanning the front/back sides of test chart 1.4.2 Requirements

Media applied with Custom Paper Settings

Supported media sizes: SRA3, A3, 13” x 19”, 12” x 18”, 11” x 17”, 315mm x 450mm, 318mm x 469mm , custom paper sizes between A4 and 13”x19”

Reference side (front or back) for the adjustment is as follows for each model:

1.5 How to update the ‘NICE for registration’ SD card

1. Obtain the updater from GKM with the following Answer ID: 213503

2. Insert the NICE for registration SD card to the SD card slot. From Explorer,

delete the ‘image’ folder and ‘module’ folder. DO NOT delete the ‘gwinit.d’ folder.

3. Run the ‘7-zip updater’ to extract files to the root directory of the NICE SD card.

Update must be performed by the technician.

2. Getting started

2.1 How to activate ‘NICE for registration’

1. Turn OFF the machine power.

2. Insert the ‘NICE for registration’ SD card into the service slot on the controller box.

3. Turn ON the machine power.

4. Press the Program key to display the NICE menu screen.

NOTE:

NICE SD card must be inserted to the service slot on the controller box, NOT the slot on the operation panel.

Make sure to turn OFF the machine power before removing the SD card from the card slot.

NICE for Registration does not activate automatically when turning ON the machine power. Press the Program key to activate.

2.2 NICE menu screen (Example of Pro C7100/7110)

Explanation of the menu items

01 Registration adjustment: Fine Fine adjusts the registration of front and back sides by scanning 6 times in total; front and back sides of 3 test charts.

02 Registration adjustment: Course Adjusts the registration of front and back sides by scanning twice in total; front and back sides of 1 test chart. While this adjustment is rather easy, if you require more precise

adjustment, do the above ‘Registration adjustment: Fine.‘

03 Registration adjustment: Reset

Returns to the status immediately before the last adjustment.

Language button switches between English and Japanese.

Sub menu Opens the Debug log capture screen. Sub menu is accessed only by technicians.

NOTE: Menu of NICE for Registration is different depending on the version. Make sure to always maintain NICE for Registration to the latest version.

To display the sub menu screen, press the ‘Sub Menu’ button at the lower right of the main menu screen.

Pressing the ‘Debug log:Start’ button will immediately start the log capture until the machine power is turned off. Logs will be saved in the log directory in the SD card.

2.3 Front/back registration adjustment procedure

1. Press ‘Registration adjustment: Fine’ or ‘Registration adjustment: Course’ on

the main menu screen.

2. Select the tray for the registration adjustment, and then press Select. Note that the adjustment is done for each tray.

NOTE: Adjustment is available only for trays associated with custom paper settings. Trays used under manual settings are greyed out and cannot be adjusted of the registration.

3. Press [Start OK] on the following screen.

4. Wait for the test chart to print out.

5. Confirm the following printouts:

Number of test charts printed differs depending on the adjustment (fine or course) performed.

- Registration adjustment: Fine: Test chart (x3), Blank sheet (3 copies printed respectively before and after the test chart)

- Registration adjustment: Course: Test chart (x1), Blank sheet (3 copies printed respectively before and after the test chart)

NOTE: Blank sheets will not be used for the adjustment.

6. Press [Start OK] on the following screen.

<Scanning the First (front) side>

7. Place the test chart so that the side described ‘FIRST’ faces up. Fold the 4 corners along the dotted lines (printed on the back side). For ‘Registration adjustment: Fine’, do the same for the remaining 2 charts.

For good results, fold along the line neatly and accurately.

8. Place the chart on the contact glass so that the side described ‘SECOND’ faces up

(because you will be scanning the FIRST side). Make sure the top and left edges of the chart are set flush against the edges of the contact glass.

9. Press [Start OK] to start the scan.

10. After the scan completes, remove the chart from the contact glass and press

[Start OK] on the following screen. For ‘Registration adjustment: Fine’, do the same for the 2 other charts.

NOTE: From the scanned data the software application in the NICE SD card reads the distance between the dotted lines along the folded edges and the paper edge on all 4 corners.

NOTE: Error message will appear, if the chart was scanned incorrectly as in below.

The same chart was scanned. The wrong side of the chart was scanned. The chart was not placed correctly on the contact glass.

Press [Start Retry] and scan again to recover from the error.

<Scanning the Second (back) side>

11. Flip the chart and fold the 4 corners along the dotted lines as done in step 7, but this time with the side described ‘SECOND’ facing up. For ‘Registration adjustment: Fine’, do the same for the 2 other charts.

12. Place the chart on the contact glass so that the side described ‘FIRST’ faces up (because you will be scanning the SECOND side). Make sure the top and left edges of the chart are set flush against the edges of the contact glass.

13. Press [Start OK] to start the scan.

14. After the scan completes, remove the chart from the contact glass and press [Start OK] on the following screen. For ‘Registration adjustment: Fine’, do the same for the 2 other charts.

15. Press [Start OK] to print out the test charts and blank sheets, and check the results.
