Stratified tanks PC, PC 2WR and PH

The Pro-Clean or Pro-Heat tank families are multifunctional stratified tank systems made of steel (S 235 JR). Stratified solar charging is via an external spherical exchanger (gravity circulation principle). The tanks are fitted with inflow absorbers on the boiler/heating side, ensuring optimum retention of stratification.

The Pro-Clean and Pro-Clean 2 corrugated pipe stratified tanks are combination tanks fitted with a corrugated stainless steel pipe (1.4404) allowing for an integrated, hygienic preparation of hot water within a continuous heating process. The PC 2WR is designed for high consumption of hot water due to its two corrugated pipes.

The Pro-Heat stratified tank is a pure backup tank. A fresh water module is additionally required for optional preparation of hot water.

The PC, PC 2WR and PH stratified tanks can be optimally expanded by the TiSUN backup tanks from the PS series.

PRO-HEAT STRATIFIED TANKPRODUCT DESCRIPTION

PH – Pro-Heat stratified tank with spherical exchanger connectionHigh-quality stratified tank made of steel (S 235 JR) for hot-water operation with a solar system. Stratified solar charging is via an external spherical exchanger. All necessary connections are at hand; includes 2x 2" sleeves for electric screw-in heating elements. The tank stands on a stand ring. The spherical exchanger and the polyester fibre fleece insulation must be ordered separately (compare Accessories).

Note: A fresh water module is required for optional preparation of hot water.

Area of useFor heating systems with a solar system for single-family and semi-detached houses or projects.

Product benefits• Efficient use of solar energy using a natural principle for heating systems• Simple functional concept without complicated technology or supplementary electrical

energy (gravity circulation principle)

• Backup heating from all common systems possible• Inflow absorbers prevent the layers in the tank from mixing – especially during heat pump

operation• Hygienic water heating due to a special corrugated stainless steel pipe1 (DN 40, 1.4404)• 5 temperature measuring points (sensor pockets) for each of three temperature sensors on

the tank• Access flange DN 200 from 1500 litres• Prepared for use with 2 electric screw-in heating elements (photovoltaic feed-in)

Standards, guidelines and regulations• "Pressure Equipment Directive" 97/23/EC• Sized according to guideline AD-2000• Welding as per EN 287-1 and EN ISO 3834-2

Max. operating temperature 110°C

Max. tank operating pressure: 3 bar

Boiler/heating connections Rp 6/4“ (partially with inflow absorber)

Cylinder feed and drain cock connections Rp ½“

Thermometer connection Rp ½“

1) For problem free maintenance of the corrugated stainless steel pipe (e.g. decalcification), when installing the tank, TiSUN recommends installation of flush connections with isolation valves at the hot water connections of the tank. Also, to protect the corrugated stainless steel pipe from excessive calcification, we recommend measures to stabilise or soften the water at tank temperatures of over 60 °C and water hardness of over 2.5 millimoles calcium carbonate per litre (= 14 °dH) (compare DIN 1988-200).2) All size specifications have a tolerance range of +/- 3%

Fresh water tanks FS/1R, FS/2R and FS/WP

The fresh water tanks of the FS series are combination tanks made of steel (S 235 JR) and fitted with a corrugated stainless steel pipe (1.4404) allowing for an integrated, hygienic preparation of hot water within a continuous heating process.

For the solar fresh water tanks FS/1R and FS/2R, solar charging is by a smooth pipe coil in the lower half of the tank. The FS/2R is fitted with an additional smooth pipe coil in the top half of the tank, the stand-by part for domestic hot water, allowing for zoned, 2-layer solar charging.

The fresh water tank for heat pump FS/WP is a combination tank without solar operation for heat pump operation. The tank is fitted with a generously-sized stand-by part for domestic hot water heating. Charging is in two zones via the heat pump (hot water and heating). Inflow absorbers ensure optimum retention of stratification.

Solar fresh water tanks FS/1R and FS/2R can be optimally expanded by the TiSUN backup tanks from the PS series.

BE-SSP-2R HOT WATER TANK

BE-SSP-2R – Solar hot water tank with two coils for domestic hot water

Available tank sizes:200 l, 300 l, 400 l, 500 l, 750 l, 1000 l

BE-SSP-2R – Solar hot water tank with two coils The solar hot water tanks from the BE-SSP series are enamelled hot water tanks made of steel (S 235 JR). A magnesium anode provides corrosion protection. Solar charging is by a smooth pipe coil in the lower half of the tank. The second smooth pipe coil, in the top half of the tank – the stand-by part for hot water – is used for additional heating and permits charging in two zones. An inflow absorber at the cold water inlet ensures optimum retention of stratification. All necessary connections are at hand; includes 1x 6/4" sleeves for electric screw-in heating elements. The tank stands on three feet. Up to 500 litres with fixed hard PU foam for insulation ( ( = 0.034 W/mK). From 750 litres with polyester fibre fleece insulation, which must be ordered separately (compare Accessories).

Area of useCost-effective tank for water heating with a solar system and conventional secondary heat source (gas, oil) for single-family and semi-detached houses.

Product benefits• Cost-effective enamelled solar hot water tank• Backup heating from all common systems possible• Inflow absorber at cold water inlet prevents mixing in the tank • Including magnesium anode for corrosion protection 1

All TiSUN stratified tanks PC, PC 2WR, PH, fresh water tanks FS/1R, FS/2R and backup tanks PS/1R can be expanded by a tank from the same series or with up to two backup tanks from the PS series. The volume – incl. balancing of the layers – can therefore be doubled or tripled.

VOLUME EXPANSION

TANK ACCESSORIES

Priority flapA special priority flap allows the upper section of the main tank to be priority-charged when con-nected to an expansion tank. Can be used with a maximum boiler output of 70 kW. When using a priority flap without a PVS corrugated connection pipe, the uppermost connection line between the main tank and the expansion tank has to be fitted on site. Attention should be paid to the flow direction and horizontal installation.

PRIORITY FLAP FOR VOLUME EXPANSION

A tank size of up to 1500 l can be established by connecting the tanks using the TiSUN PVS corrugated connection pipe; from 2000 l, piping must be provided on site. To achieve optimum function, you must place tanks on the same level, the connecting pipes must run horizontal and must never sag (thermosiphon action).

4 corrugated connection pipes are required for each expansion tank. Any fittings required must be provided on site (T-piece, 90° bend). Optionally, a TiSUN VK 1 priority flap can be installed. This facilitates prioritised, fast charging of the main tank in the upper section, the hot water stand-by part.

Note: This volume expansion is recommended for heating systems up to 50 kW.

205

Page 92: Technical catalogue 2014 tanks

PVS corrugated connection pipeThe corrugated pipe is used to connect 2 tanks and may only be installed in a horizontal position with no sagging (avoid thermosiphon action)! Guide plates are included in the scope of delivery. The pipe nipples should be sealed properly with hemp and sealing compound! Including 19 mm rubber insulation. Trans-mission capacity up to 50 kW.

TANK ACCESSORIES CORRUGATED PIPE FLUSHING CONNECTION SET

Flushing connection set for corrugated stainless steel pipe

The flushing connection set is used for problem free maintenance of the corrugated stainless steel pipe (e.g. decalcification) without having to disconnect the tank from the water line.

Type SAS 1

Item no. 1610726

Corrugated pipe connections 1"Domestic hot water connections 1"

Installation and operation of the flushing connections• Any required circulation lance must be installed before the flushing connections.• The ball valve must be re-opened after flushing the corrugated stainless steel pipe! Otherwise, there is a risk that the drinking water

heat exchanger is destroyed when heating up, because the connection to the overpressure valve is interrupted!• To prevent accidental blocking of the cold-water infeed or the pressure relief valve during operation, the cold-water infeed valve

must be sealed during installation or after the respective flushing procedures (1x lead seal included in delivery).• The cold water ball valve can be adjusted using a 6 mm jaw spanner.

Product descriptionA self-actuating thermostatic domestic hot water mixing valve acts as a central mixing unit and ensures a con-stant mixed water temperature at the point of withdraw-al. Scalding at the point of withdrawal is thereby avoided even at high tank temperatures. Special valve seals at the control piston reduce unwanted admixtures to a min-imum*, resulting in maximum utilisation of the tank tem-perature. Long service life thanks to high-quality plastics and non-stick coatings against limescale. Infinitely ad-justable target temperature.

*When the hot water is 3 K below the set mixed water temperature, then the

cold water leakage rate = 0. Otherwise the admixture is limited to max. 3 K.

Benefits•Constant water temperature at the point of withdrawal•Self-actuating mixing function without supplementary energy•Infinitely variable adjustment of the mixed water temperature•High control precision•Protection from scalding•High kVS values•Very low cold water leakage rate•Non-stick coating of the valve housing against limescale•Locking option of the target value setting•Can be used as a diverting valve•No additional seals are required when used as return flow inhibitor•Return flow inhibitors are secured against loss

Mode of functionThe mixing valve is supplied with hot water from a tank and with cold water from the line network. The temper-ature of the mixed water is registered by a thermostatic expansion element. A deviation in the temperature of the mixed water from the target value will cause the ex-pansion element to move the control piston, and thereby regulate the supply of hot and cold water until the mixed water temperature corresponds to the target value.

TANK ACCESSORIESCIRCULATION UNIT

DescriptionThis pump group provides hot water circulation in sanitary systems. The advantages are the immediate availability of hot water (lower water consumption) and protection from Legionella. The hot water temperature is always held constant by action of the integrated thermostatic mixing valve. A bypass from the circulation pipe to the mixing valve minimises the energy loss in the hot water circulation. Unfavourable fluid flow is prevented by integrated check valves. The ready-to-install component is fully insulated and assembled. The circulation pump can be adjusted to the desired circulation temperature by means of the in-built thermostat.

S1 impressed current anode Unless preventive measures are taken, the constant introduction of oxygen-rich fresh water into your hot water tank inevitably causes the tank to corrode. Traditionally, two types of protective measures are used. The first is an inner coating, but that means that extremely small areas will be unprotected. The second is the use of a magnesium anode, which pro-duces a complementary protective current. But the anode "sacrifices" itself over time. When it is used up, there is no protective current for the tank – and corrosion sets in.

An impressed current anode is a long-term alternative to a sacrificial anode. It is based on the most advanced technology and provides a lasting, electronically controlled protective current for your tank. The continuous protective current is controlled by a potentiostat and is supplied by a titanium electrode in the tank. This provides safe protec-tion against corrosion in all TiSUN® enamelled steel tanks.

An effective protective current must be adjusted exactly to the indi-vidual conditions in the hot water tank at all times. To prevent it from

being too high or too low, the potentiostat automatically adjusts the current based on the individual operating conditions. Over- or un-der-protection is prevented in this manner. The current is fed via a mixed oxide coated titanium electrode, which is practically wear-free.

Measurement and feeding procedures take place alternately within millisecond intervals:1. Measurement of the actual potential in the tank 2. Calculation of the current required to reach the target potential 3. Feeding the protective current 4. Achieving the target potentialCorrosion can therefore not commence.

The impressed current anode is supplied with all components required for installation. The potentiostat and electrode are easily connected to one another using a connecting cable. The accessories supplied al-low very quick push-fit assembly.

TroubleshootingThe troubleshooting procedures described below may only be carried out by the installer or a qualified service technician!

If neither of the indicator lights is lit, there is probably no mains voltage.

• Is the tank's water heater filled with water? Fill the tank's water heater with water.

• Are you sure that the flow of electricity in the circuit is uninterrupt-ed? Check all connections and switches to be sure that they are making proper metallic, electrical-conducting contact and rectify the fault.

• Is the polarity correct? Test the voltage – connect a digital multim-eter with the anode (positive pole) and the tank (negative pole). It has to show a positive value.

• Is a magnesium anode still installed in the tank water heater? Remove the magnesium anode.

• Is the electrode completely insulated from the tank wall and components? When the tank is empty, use a tester to check the

General information The assembly specifications are non-binding guideline values that only serve for orientation and assume that the tanks are manufactured according to DIN 4753. It is especially important to meet the specifications prescribed for the quality of the enamel (standard protective current requirement). Tanks have to be made of non-rusting steel containing a minimum of 16% chromium. Any ad-ditional metallic components installed in the tanks (heat exchangers, electric heating elements, etc.) have to be insulated and equipped with an electrical potential balancing resistor if necessary. If several anodes are installed, they must be evenly distributed within the tank. The tank height/width ratio may not exceed 3:1. Binding approval of any additional installations requires prior labo-ratory tank measurements by Norsk Hydro.

TANK ACCESSORIES IMPRESSED CURRENT ANODE

insulation. If necessary, correct the position of the components and/or the electrode.

• Are the seals wet? Remove the anode, dry all parts and reinstall. Make sure that the installation is insulated.

• Have any non-enamelled heat exchangers (e.g. Cu finned tubes, Cu-smooth pipes or CrNi smooth pipes) been installed so that they are completely electrically insulated against the tank water heat-er? Check the insulation with a tester and rectify any fault.

• Is the plug-in potentiostat overloaded? Inspect the container for visible enamelling faults.

If the impressed current anode fault cannot be corrected with these procedures, please contact our customer service department. The fact that the LEDs are lit green does not necessarily mean that the tank is protected. This only shows that the protective current is pres-ent. The size of the anode must be appropriate for the tank in order for the anode to offer sufficient cathodic protection.

DesignThe safety group consists of a shut-off valve and a return flow inhibitor with testing device (2. shut-off valves with DN 20), pressure gauge connection and diaphragm safety valve as well as drain funnel with pipe interrupter, which prevents siphoning back of the draining water. The easily exchangeable diaphragm safety valve, with wear-resistant stainless steel seat adapts to different installation conditions thanks to a threaded connection that can be turned by 360 degrees. MaterialsAll materials used for the safety group, meet the high requirements of DIN 1988. Plastics and elastomers coming into contact with water con-form to the German plastics and drinking water (KTW) recommendations of the German Public Health Department. In particular, all materials are corrosion resistant. Housings, internal components and screw connections are manufactured from high-quality, low-lead brass alloy. The sprung caps of the pressure relief valves are made from glass reinforced plastic, the springs of the pressure relief valves are made from spring steel wire and the return flow inhibitors from stainless steel.

InstallationThe response pressure of the pressure relief valve may not exceed the permissible operating pressure of the drinking water heater. The di-mensions of the safety group depend on the volume and heating power of the drinking water heaters. The safety group is engaged if the supply pressure does not exceed 80% of the response pressure on the pressure relief valve.

InstallationThe safety group must always be installed, tension-free, upstream of the drinking water heater, paying attention to the flow direction, in the cold water inlet line which has been well flushed beforehand. The special design of the group makes installation possible with an angle type or straight through type configuration, in horizontal or vertical pipes. The installation is carried out so that no shut-off valves, filters or narrowing of the pipe are located between the pressure relief valve and the drinking water heater. The fitting should be easily accessible for maintenance and service work. Therefore, the safety group should be arranged above the drinking water heater. This location facilitates straightforward exchange of the pressure relief valves without the necessity of first emptying the drinking water heaters. Should this not be possible, due to the particular installation conditions, then the soldered fittings set (accessories) enables an extension of the connecting pipe to the pressure relief valve.

MaintenanceTo achieve a long operating life for the safety group it is advisable to carry out regular maintenance work in accordance with DIN 1988, part 8. The seat and seals on the pressure relief valves can be cleaned without altering the pressure. Exchange of the stainless steel seats is equally problem free. The nominal size DN 20 allows replacement of the return flow inhibitors without emptying the drinking water heaters. The com-ponent-tested, exchangeable pressure relief valve makes replacement possible without dismantling the complete fitting.

DesignThe safety centre contains a connection for an additional cold water application, a double shut-off valve with integrated test capability for the return flow inhibitor, a return flow inhibitor, a pressure relief valve with stainless steel seat and drain funnel, a flow unit with integrated mainte-nance shut-off valve for the membrane expansion tank as well as a mounting plate with spacer fitting. The special design of the group makes installation possible with an angle type or straight through type configuration, in horizontal or vertical pipes. The diaphragm safety valve adapts to different installation conditions and can be turned through 360°. The mounting plate is designed for safe and rapid installation. The safety centre is tested for sound insulation and meets the requirements of sound insulation class 1.

MaterialsThe housing is made from low lead content, red brass alloy which is resistant to loss of zinc plating. All wearing parts are made from stainless steel and all pressure bearing plastic parts are made from glass reinforced plastic. Membranes and sealing rings are made from heat and ageing resistant plastics with rubber-elastic properties and the springs are wound from corrosion protected spring steel wire and/or rustproof steel. The membrane expansion tank is constructed from coated steel and the membrane of the tank from Nitril rubber NBR. All plastic parts which come into contact with the drinking water meet the German plastics and drinking water (KTW) recommendations of the German Public Health Department.

InstallationThe installation can be carried out either in proximity to the drinking water heaters or in the area where services enter the house. The water supply connection to the building must be fitted with a filter and a pressure reducer. The output pressure adjusted here must not exceed 80% of the response pressure on the pressure relief valve. For wall-mounted installations, the mounting plate provides the required gaps to the wall for the membrane expansion tank as well as the complicated attachment of the membrane expansion tank with the console and mountings. The various installation types make all flow directions possible.

InstallationBefore assembly, the piping should be carefully flushed. After this the unit should be installed tension-free. A distance of 80 mm to the wall is achieved using the mounting plate supplied. A spacer fitting can be used to adjust this distance between 80 and 95 mm. The drain funnel of the pressure relief valve has a length spacer which can be extended to 20 mm. In place of this funnel, and in order to extend it, it is possible to use a drain line of (22 mm) copper tube.

MaintenanceThe forward gas pressure in the membrane expansion tank must be set 0.2 bar below the static pressure of the installation. To ensure the en-during operation of the safety centre, regular maintenance of the unit's components is required (see DIN 1988, Part 8). Yearly inspection should be performed on the forward pressure of the membrane expansion tank and on the operation of the return flow inhibitor. The pressure relief valve can be cracked open by the turning handle. The sensible construction of the unit allows problem free maintenance or repair of all the individual components.
