High Shear Industrial Mixing and Agitation

Mixing or agitation is an integral part of the production process. There was a need for a single design that would address both radial and axial flow all-in-one. The Turbulator was born to accommodate this vital need in industry and emerged from one simple, yet complete design.

Turbulator Technologies provides complete worldwide solutions to mixing and agitation problems across industries, raging from acid mine drainage and efflu-ent control, to back fill and diffi-cult sump applications, to food.

The Turbulator Mixer is an agitator-mixer unit for mixing of liquids and slurries. A strong vortex is created at both the upper and lower ends of the rotor. The bottom stream is pulled through the rotor and deflected upwards, forming a wave at the upper end of the mixing vessel, forcing powders and solids into the top vortex. The top stream is deflected downwards and it sweeps the bottom end of the mixing vessel, preventing any solids from settling on the vessel floor. High shear takes place due to the top and bottom streams cutting through one another as they exit the rotor.

Turbulator Technologies offers clients a turnkey solution that allows mixing, wetting, blending and aeration of solutions unattainable with existing industry technology. Applications include industrial mixing, mining, pharmaceutical applications, water and wastewater aeration, and more.

The unique mixing principle of the Turbulator rotor/impeller is based a simple, yet efficient, design. When observing the agitation process in a glass vessel, the distinctive “figure 8” within the liquid is visible. This pattern results in a strong vortex on both the upper and lower side of the rotor, pulling down floating powders from the surface as well as lifting and stirring up solids that would otherwise settle out. One can also observe the sweeping action along the tank walls which assists in the cleaning of the tank’s sidewalls as well as agitating the corners of rectangular tanks. These actions ensure a rapid, homogeneous mix throughout the vessel.

The design of the Turbulator is superior to the conventional paddle or marine blade impellers currently available on the market. The task of the turbulator rotor is to generate

a three-dimensional flow throughout a vessel and to maximize the contact area between the components within a multiphase system.
