Overview

Beginning ESL students will use imperatives and sequence words to explain how to do something. First, they will write it out using Microsoft Word. Then, they will present it. Finally, they will comment on Youtube videos of themselves after they make a presentation. They will practice a grammar point about imperatives as well as practice reading, speaking, writing, and listening.

Literacy and Technology Standards

Literacy Standards:

1) Use imperatives

2) Use transition words (First, Second…etc)

Technology Standards:

1) Use mouse and keyboard

2) Use Microsoft Word

3) Use Internet and Youtube

Writing/Presentation/Comments

Writing

In the computer lab, the class will click on Start, Microsoft Office, and Word. Then, each student will have a title “How to..” and write at least 5 instructions using imperatives and sequence words.

Presentation

In class, students will read their instructions while they are being filmed. Students may choose to demonstrate and bring in props for extra credit.

Comments

In the computer lab, students open Microsoft explorer and type in www.youtube.com. They will find benteacher123 and comment on at least two videos. Comments must be positive.

How to Make a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich

First, get two slices of bread.

Then, get a knife, open the peanut butter jar, and spread the peanut butter on one side of a piece of bread.

Next, get a spoon, open the jelly jar, and scoop a tablespoon of jelly, and spread on the other piece of bread.

Finally, put together and enjoy!
