Aims of this session

• To source, share and promote teaching resources which reduce planning time and enhance student learning

• To build your personal learning network (PLN)• To build your confidence in using social media to

By the end of the session you will be able to:

• Create/develop a twitter account to source, share and promote teaching resources

• Use hashtags # to join or start discussions about education, training and CPD

• Create/develop a TES account to sources and share teaching resources online

• Start to look at teacher/educational blogs to follow and/or make your own

Technology supported Professional Development• Entry - By following links from emails I can access information about upcoming training opportunities and resources on

the Extranet and CPD websites.• Core

– I can carry out online searches and find up to date information on developments, discussions and resources in my area.

– I understand the value of using online resources and information to support CPD.– I can pass on items of interest or use to colleagues by attaching information or including a link in emails.

• Developer– I use a wide range of online sources, including social media (for example, blogs and wikis), and social networking

TwitterTwitter is an online social networking and microblogging service that enables

users to send and read short 140-character text messages, called ‘tweets’.

Why Twitter?• 255 million monthly active users• Excellent tool for sharing ideas on teaching and learning

or education• The more people you follow (who are connected to

your area of interest), the more likely you are to find pertinent information you will find useful

• The more people who follow you, the more likely you are to connect with people who share your interest and build your personal learning network (PLN)

Why Twitter?• Common misconceptions are that Twitter is:– for celebrities, sports stars and journalists– like posting an update to Facebook– or like an email where you need to read everything.

• Twitter is about connecting with others as part of a global community who will help you with your learning, improving your lessons, helping your students connect with other students and content experts.
