POET’S VOICE

MoMA’s exhibition ‘Frank Lloyd Wright at 150: Unpacking the Archive’ (Curated by Barry Bergdoll) offers an unprecedented opportunity to explore the work and practice of one of the most prolific and renowned architects of the twentieth century. In these two lectures, we will consider specifics buildings in the context of Wright’s approaches to nature, urbanism, material, technology, politics, society, and experimentation as well as his reception and legacy.

A lecture focused on two landmark buildings, the Unity Temple (1905 - 1908) and the Beth Shalom Synagogue (1953), will be followed by a lecture of Usonian Homes, a series of affordable houses developed by Wright, beginning in 1936.

For more information contact Michele Martin at (203) 625-6533.

Cambodia: Looking Back on the Future takes a deeper look at contemporary art in Cambodia, exploring notions of time, identity and history. Central to all the works selected for the exhibition is thehuman figure. The figure, like in tradi-tional art forms, is an important device for many artists to assert personal narratives, implying significance and meaning in the context of larger historical events.

This exhibition represents the largest known presentation of artwork by Cam-bodian visual artists in the U.S. It includes work by eleven contemporary Cambodian artists that are both established and emerg-ing. This show brings together a variety of medium including painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, installation and video/performance. The show closes on Wednesday, June 14.

Exhibiting artists include: Anida Yoeu ALI, Chath PIERSATH, CHOV Theanly, HENG Ravuth, KONG Vollak, LEANG Seckon, LIM Muy Theam, Marine KY, NEAK Sophal, OEUR Sokuntevy and YIM Maline. (For this exhibition, family names are shown in capital letters or in bold, for easy understanding - in Cambo-dia family names come first, while artists who grew up abroad usually list their fam-ily names last.)

Artwork is for sale and commissions help support the programs of the Friends of Greenwich Library.
