Grunt 750 WDG Herbicide is a key establishment herbicide for Pinus spp. plantations in Australia. Applied pre planting (including South Australia) or post-planting, Grunt 750 WDG Herbicide controls a number of annual weeds and hard-to-kill perennial weed species. MODE OF ACTION Containing 750g/kg hexazinone. Grunt 750 WDG Herbicide is a translocated, leaf and root absorbed residual herbicide. It belongs to the triazinones group of herbicides (Group C) using the inhibitor of photosystem II mode of action. PINE SPECIES In Australia there are three broad categories of pine trees farmed: radiata pine (Pinus radiata), maritime pine (Pinus pinaster) and Southern Pine. The Southern Pine category is comprised of several minor species, which include Pinus elliottii, P. caribaea, P. elliottii X, P. caribaea hybrid and P. taeda. Minimising weed competition for soil moisture, nutrition and light during the first two years of Pinus spp. forest establishment is essential to maximise initial growth and tree survival. Optimal weed control is achieved with an autumn pre-plant application and a spring post-plant application. WEEDS CONTROLLED: ANNUALS: Flatweeds, rye grasses, clovers, sow thistle HARD-TO-KILL PERENNIALS: Wallaby grass, serrated tussock, sorrel, dandelion, kangaroo grass (suppression only), Yorkshire fog grass WOODY & HARD-TO-KILL WEEDS: Bracken, varnish acacia (Acacia verniciflua), sunshine acacia (Acacia botrycephala), silver wattle (Acacia dealbata), hop goodenia (Goodenia ovata), common cassinia (Dogwood - Vic only) (Cassinia aculeata) TANK MIXTURES Tank mixtures of Grunt 750 WDG and Crop Care Atradex ® will improve activity on austral storks bill (Pelargonium australe), flatweed (Hypochoeris radicata), fog grass (Holcus lanatus), sorrel (Acetosella vulgaris), sow thistle (Sonchus oleraceus), spear thistle (Cirsium vulgare) and wild oats (Avena fatua). Tank mixtures of Grunt 750 WDG and Atradex will provide useful suppression of Bracken. Mixing When mixing Grunt 750 WDG with Atradex, add Grunt first to spray tank and agitate strongly before adding Atradex. Pinus spp. (Pinus radiata, Pinus pinaster) plantations Ground Application - apply in 100 - 400 L/ha with a properly calibrated boom. Forestry Spotgun - see directions for use and critical comments on label. Aerial Application - apply a minimum of 20 L water for every 1 kg of product used, e.g. 5 kg in 100 L of water per hectare. A minimum of 50 L water is required when used with Accuflow (a coarse droplet nozzle in helicopters). SURFACTANT USE Use Activator ® for pre-planting applications only, by either ground or aerial equipment. Activator can be added at the rate of 100 - 150 mL/100L of spray volume for improved wetting. DO NOT add Activator if the spray is to be applied over the top of Pinus spp trees. TECHNOTEGRUNT 750 WDG - KEY ESTABLISHMENT HERBICIDE FOR PINE PLANTATIONS

BENEFITS OF GRUNT 750 WDG

• Broader use patterns - registered for use in radiata pine (Pinus radiata), maritime pine (Pinus pinaster) (SA only) and industrial weed control situations.

• Pre-plant registration in South Australia - apply Grunt 750 WDG at 2 kg/ha in combination with Atradex at 5 kg/ha with the non-ionic surfactant Activator at 100 - 150 mL/100L

• Broader weed spectrum registration, including woody and hard-to-kill weeds

• High strength formulation - lower use rates compared with alternatives

• Quality wettable granule formulation promotes ease of mixing and application

• Compatible with Atradex for broader spectrum weed control

• No known phytotoxic effects when this mixture is used on low organic matter sandy soils which are typically found on South Australian forestry estates

• Greater flexibility for use - the 2 kg/ha rate registration pre-plant or post-planting reduces the risks associated with interactions between application rate, soil type and soil temperature

• Flexible use patterns - registered for use in use by ground, air and forestry spotgun

• Registered for use in industrial weed control situations, including commercial and industrial areas, rights of way, and around agricultural buildings

2 - 2.5kg/ha Apply any time from March through to July. It is recommended to delay planting until planting lines become clearly visible, i.e.when effects of the product are evident. Machine planting is not recommended, as soil disturbance will reduce the residual activity.

For best results on Woody and Hard to kill weeds, application should be made after weed emergence. Silver wattle exceeding 1.5m – suppression only.

Tank mixtures of Grunt 750 WDG and Nu-trazine will improve activity on Austral storks bill (Pelargonium australe), flatweed (Hypochoeris radicata), fog grass (Holcus lanatus), sorrel (Acetosella vulgaris), sow thistle (Sonchus oleraceus), spear thistle (Cirsium vulgare) and wild oats (Avena fatua). growth responses.

Hold Forestry Spotgun® (fitted with 120°solid cone nozzle) over the pine (slightly off centre to the central header) with the nozzle tip 50cm above the ground when making the application.

Apply 1 to 4 months after pines have been transplanted into plantation.
