1. Introduction

1.1 Purpose

The following describes the procedure to track Acceptable Deferred Defects inthe RAL application.

1.2 Overview

Every operator needs to have a procedure for deferring the rectification ofdefects where this is permitted by the Minimum equipment list of the aircraft. Theairworthiness authority expects the operator to transfer a defect which can be

carried forward under MEL to the acceptable deferred defect list and track thesame. This document educates the user on how to transfer, track, rectify andclose ADDs.

2. Specific Instructions

2.1 ADD Process where no material is required

Enter Deferred defects

a) Go to Engineering>Technical Records>Fleet Registrations>Edit>Journey log> Add

b) Complete the journey log as appropriate. Ensure that you press save beforegoing to the defects tab.

c) In the defects form as shown in figure 1

Select the appropriate Defect Type and enter the ADD reference by

selecting the create new paper icon and choosing the defect type and

RAL will generate the next sequence. Alternatively it is possible toenter/ override the ADD reference.

Select a status of deferred and ensure that the appropriate Text/ MEL

category is entered.

The Defect Item number should refer to the Tech Log Item number.

The Carried out Reg Journey and carried out by fields must be filled

in.

You cannot enter the Defect Closed Date since the same would be

greyed out. However you need to enter the certified date since thesystem calculates the target date from the certified date and the MEL

category chosen. Save and Close.

Note: If the defect was raised and completed the same procedure asabove would be adopted except that you would set the status toclosed and enter the Carried out date.

2.2 ADD Process where material is requiredIt is highly likely that material will be requested at the Line stationprior to the Tech Log/ Journey code number being known or to theTech Log being deferred. In this case the following procedure

should be adopted

a) Raise a quick requisition for the required material. This can be done from thepart inquiries screen. This can be reached from Engineering>LineMaintenance> Part enquiries

b) Select a part and click on the Quick Requisition button to open a requisitionform as seen above.

c) Note the Line Defect tick box was enabled to define the work order number.Select the create new paper icon for the task and create a new task.

d) The task default to PIREP. This can be changed if required.

e) Update and save the requisition.

f) Whilst the part has been requisitioned, put on back order, issued etc etc thedefect is deferred, the Tech Log page annotated and forwarded to theTechnical Planning department to enter into RAL.

g) At this stage there is no defect information within RAL.

Enter Technical Log page & link to requisition

h) Add the New Journey Registration Journey Log in the usual manner.

i) However, instead of now adding the Defect, edit existing as shown in figure6
