TechWave 2010 - Keynotes

Opening General Session: Innovation and the Unwired Enterprise

John Chen, Chairman, CEO, and President, Sybase, Inc.

John sat on stage with Merv Adrian, IT Market Strategy, discussing the acquisition of

Sybase by SAP. They polled the audience on the future of TechWave being separate

of part of SAP Tech ED. Audience was split about 50/50. John said they may keep it

separate for awhile but said he sees them merging at some time.

The Tuesday edition of the daily Newsletter proclaimed:

CEO Promises No Roadmap Changes

No need to worry – the Sybase products you rely on are here to stay in the new SAP era.

―There are no roadmap changes at all, ―Sybase CEO John Chen said during

yesterday’s keynote. This goes for Sybase’s products in every one of its three major

product and services lines: data management, analytics, tools, and mobility. Chen

also said that price hikes are not on the horizon, and that he plans to stay on to lead

Sybase as long as possible.

TechWave 2010 - Innovator Awards

Swiss Medical Group Swiss Medical Group (SMG) is a leading prepaid health care group in Argentina, with over 20,000 professionals and over 3,000 diagnosis and treatment providers. To address the roadblocks resulting from explosive growth of patient information and increases in queries, SMG migrated its databases to Sybase Adaptive Server® Enterprise 15 Cluster Edition, moved its corporate data center to an external provider and changed the hardware architecture. Consequently, the company has doubled processing capacity and now offers fast delivery of information when it is needed.

Raiffeisen Bank Aval Raiffeisen Bank Aval is a leading and top-rated financial firm in Ukraine. Prior to their use of Sybase IQ analytics server, the bank suffered from sluggish reporting response times due to lack of access to comprehensive historical data and labor-consuming report creation. To address these issues, the bank built a data storage solution based on Sybase IQ, collecting data from various transactional servers. Sybase IQ’s performance allows the bank to aggregate large volumes of data and complete complex reporting at a low maintenance cost.

msc mobile msc mobile is a software company developing and implementing mobile SAP business processes. The company developed MOMENTUM, a mobile field service solution for SAP, utilizing the industry-leading enterprise mobile platform — the Sybase Unwired Platform. This implemention has significantly improved productivity as field technicians can access work orders, document activities at the point of inspection and synchronize with SAP ERP systems. Meanwhile, it has reduced equipment downtime as supervisors can more effectively view and manage ongoing maintenance activities.

Everything Everywhere Limited Everything Everywhere Limited, formed through the merger of T-Mobile UK and Orange UK, is the UK’s biggest communications company, with a combined customer base of over 30 million people and 700 retail stores across the country. The companies evolved the Intelligent Routeback solution which can now be offered by Sybase 365, a solution which leverages Sybase 365’s unrivalled reach to worldwide operators and its reliable throughput. This new messaging platform has enabled the company to increase revenues, reduce operational costs and improve the customer experience. As a result, Everything Everywhere set aggressive revenue forecasts for the year, and currently expects to exceed these targets.

TechWave 2010 - DBA Highlights

Overall Thoughts • Good technical sessions, sometimes hard to choose

• No call for papers, Sybase controlled all session content but did invite

a few customers/partners to participate in some sessions

• Included employees from their engineering, support, pre-sales, and

professional services groups so speakers had good technical skills

• Better, more content than last year but still not to the level of the

larger TechWave’s in Las Vegas, Orlando, and San Diego

• Have to wait and see what happens to TechWave and SAP Tech-Ed
