Define Obstacles
Obstacle settings can be defined in the ‚Edit 3D Properties‘ dialog.
NoneNo obstacle is generated (Method, Table, …).
Bounding BoxThe bounding box of the whole object is an obstacle.
GraphicsThe obstacles are defined by the graphics.

Difference ‘Graphics’ – ‘Bounding Box’
Advantage of Bounding Boxis faster computation.

Obstacle Setting In Graphic Tree
‚Edit 3D Properties of ‚Front‘:
Depending on the obstacle setting of the graphic group ‚Front‘ an obstacle is either createdfor the bounding box of group or for the individual graphic elements.

Barred Area
From the Insert Shape group of the ‘Edit’ ribbon a BarredArea can be inserted:
A Barred Area is always an obstacle and can be used to markareas where the worker cannot walk.
You can choose between 3 forms:
To improve performance a Barred Area can be used togenerate only one obstacle for all the objects inside theBarred Area.

Use Footpaths To Pass Through Obstacles
The front will generate an obstacle forthe whole front.
The worker cannot walk through thedoor.
We can use a footpath tocreate a way for the worker.

Use Footpaths To Connect Different Floors
A footpath can be used to connect different floors.
A worker can only reach targets which are at the same z-level (with a tolerance of 1cm).
For each z-level where there are targets for the worker theobstacles are automatically calculated.
To connect different z-levels a footpath can be used whichstarts at the first z-level and end at the second z-level.
If an object is located 2m or above a z-level not obstacle isgenerated.

Performance Tips
• Set obstacle to ‘None’ for as many objects as possible.• If this is not possible use ‘Bounding Box’ as early as
possible.

1. Create A Cell
• Create a cell (frame) which looks like the one on the rightwith two SingleProcs, 2 workplaces, 2 connectors, aconveyor and a rack.
• Make sure that the workplaces are assigned to theSingleProcs.
• Set processing importers for the two SingleProcs to activeand enter ‘root.Broker’ as the path to the broker. (Ignore thewarning about the Broker).

2. Create A Model
• Create a model with a source, two of the just created cells and a drain and connect them.• Make sure that you also have an event controller, a worker pool and a broker.• The model should look like the one below.• Once you’re ready you should be able to run the model and see the worker walking.
(Set the event controller to real-time to be able to see what’s going on.)

3. Barred Area and Footpath
Insert a Barred Area like you see it on the right and insert aFootpath so that the worker can cross the Barred Area.

4. New Floor
• Extend the model as shown to the right:• Delete the drain.• Create a cuboid with dimension 5mx5mx1m.• Insert a SingleProc, set the z-coordinate to 1m
and put it on top of the cuboid.• Do the same for a work place and a drain.• Connect the objects.• Create a footpath which allows the worker to
walk up to the new level.• Run the simulation.
