TEKNOWARE OY is a 100% Finnish company in the international electronics industry. Employing more than 200 people, we engineer and manufacture our products in the city of Lahti, Finland. We have been in the lighting business since 1972. Teknoware´s 40th anniversary is in May 2012.

Our products are used in demanding special lighting applications, such as emergency lighting and interior lighting in public transportation. Exports comprise more than 75% of our sales. Presently, we export our products to over 50 countries and our emergency lighting products can be found around the world, from the concert hall in Reykjavik to the metro in

Dubai. Both electronic and mechanical components are engineered and manufactured in our factory in Lahti. Our company has been certified for the ISO 9001 quality assurance system and the ISO 14001 environmental management system.

EMERGENCY LIGHTING SYSTEMS

In central battery systems the batteries are centrally located, which is a big benefit considering the maintenance work and expenses. In self-contained systems each luminaire has its own back-up power source, usually a battery. As an alternative to the battery, an environmentally friendly and long-life super capacitor is used in the Teknoware ESCAP self-contained luminaires.

In our ESCAP emergency lighting luminaires a capacitive storing of electrical energy and the latest LED technology are combined. The life-time of the capacitors is over ten years, which is in balance with the life-time of the long-life high power LEDs. As a result there is a luminaire which is completely maintenance-free during its whole life span. Even after that it is not hazardous waste, but can be recycled as normal electronic waste, unlike the batteries which contain hazardous material and require regular maintenance.

As a result of the uniqueness of the solution is the Most Innovative Product award given to Teknoware ESCAP luminaires at the 2008 Sähkö Valo Tele and AV fair.

REMOTE MONITORING SYSTEMS

Teknoware offers a comprehensive range of alternatives for the centralized monitoring of the emergency lighting system. Central monitoring is available for both central battery and self-contained systems. For central battery systems the options are WebACM, WebCM, ACM, BCM, Coba and BACnet, and for self-contained luminaires the wireless Aalto Control system. Further information about the remote monitoring options can be found on pages 37-41 of this catalogue.

PRODUCT COMPLIANCE Electrical products sold in Europe must always carry the CE mark. This means that low-voltage and EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) directives have been applied to our emergency lighting products. We ensure these requirements are met by engineering and testing our products as per the applicable European standards. We certify this by issuing our products a manufacturer’s declaration of product compliance, including both the required product documentation and test reports, and accordingly, we attach the CE mark to our products. In addition to the CE mark, our core

products have been certified by SGS Fimko and, therefore, they also carry the FI mark. LUMINANCE AND CONTRAST REQUIREMENTS FOR EMERGENCY EXIT LUMINAIRES

All emergency exit luminaires sold in Europe must meet the photometric requirements of the European standard EN1838. This standard sets requirements for luminance and contrast. The visibility stated in the standard is the most important feature of an exit luminaire and it cannot be ignored, e.g., for the sake of lower energy consumption or product costs. The only way to make sure that the requirements are met is by measuring with appropriate instruments. Teknoware uses camera-based systems for conducting measurements in its own laboratory and this system fulfils the requirements set

PHOTOMETRIC PROPERTIES AND MEASUREMENTS OF EMERGENCY LIGHTING LUMINAIRES

Emergency luminaires are used to illuminate exit routes and open areas at specific light levels. To reach this goal, photometric information on each luminaire type is needed in order to space them correctly. The standards also require that manufacturers of emergency luminaires provide verified photometric data on the luminaires. We supply light level data and spacing tables for all our luminaires. We also offer the necessary Eulumdat files for simulations done with Dialux Software. The data on our luminaires is obtained from real-life measurements and on simulations based on them. Luminous flux (lm) levels are measured in our light laboratory using the Ulbricht sphere. THE POWER FACTOR MUST BE CONSIDERED IN DESIGNING LUMINAIRES

The increased use of electronic devices in an electrical grid increases reactive power consumption. Reactive power is generated in alternating current circuits when there is a phase difference between the electrical devices and the power source. Reactive power cannot be utilised, rather, it just produces losses in the supply network With luminaires powered by a central battery

system, reactive power causes additional losses during normal operation and therefore limits the number of luminaires that can be interconnected. Power factor correction is used to limit the wasted reactive power in electronic devices. Power correction is required under European standards. However, it is not mandatory to luminaires with an input power of less than 25 W. Because of this, it is not normally used in low-power luminaires. However, when several low-power luminaires are connected to the same circuit, their overall effect is the same as that of high-power luminaires. For this reason, we have also introduced power factor correction to our low-power emergency luminaires, even when their power is less than 25 W. This benefits the overall energy efficiency of the building and increases flexibility in the design of the emergency lighting system.

LED IS GAINING POPULARITY The luminous intensity and quality of light of LEDs are still developing quickly. Presently, LEDs have reached a level where they are a viable option for various general lighting applications. LEDs have already been used in emergency lighting for years and Teknoware has been one of the forerunners in this field. Fifteen years ago we introduced LEDMAN, our first exit luminaire incorporating green LEDs, and more than 10 years ago we began marketing our first exit luminaires using white LEDs. The development still continues. Today LEDs also play an important role as a light source in emergency luminaires for overall lighting. In comparison to fluorescent tubes, they enable the design of significantly smaller luminaires and also considerably reduce energy consumption. However, the greatest Advantage of LEDs is achieved in their use in continuously operating exit luminaires as LEDs have a lifespan of more than 10 years. In comparison to other light sources, however, new technical challenges face the designers of luminaires using LEDs. Correct thermal engineering is of the utmost importance for long LED lifespan and their photometric characteristics can be utilised only by using correct optics. Teknoware combines extensive experience, as well as the latest engineering tools and instrumentation in its design process.

ADDRESSABLE TAPSA CONTROL SYSTEmSThe addressable testing of the Tapsa Control central battery unit, together with a wide selection of central monitoring options, offers considerable savings in system maintenance and service.

The addressable central battery units offer effective solutions for supplying a large quantity of luminaires. They are suited for small and large premises depending on the type of the central battery unit. A maximum of 12-32 addressable luminaires can be connected to one circuit depending on the type of the central battery unit.

In addition to the normal emergency lighting functions, central battery units in the Tapsa Control series make it possible to test automatically the condition of the central unit itself and the luminaires connected to it. The testing of luminaires is based on individual addresses and the communication is by means of the power supply cables. Thus there is no need for any separate data cabling between the luminaires. The luminaires must be of the Teknoware model number ending in the letter K or they must have a separate address module. Utilisation of these luminaires also enables the connection of maintained and non-maintained luminaires to the same circuit and allows local supply monitoring using Teknoware Local Controller.

Tapsa Control series include all the basic functions required by the EN50171 standard. Moreover, the following additional features, among others, are available:

- The system is self-learning, which enables automatic configuration during the commissioning. - The system performs an automatic luminaire test once every day and a battery test once every six months. - In addition to the scheduled tests, the condition of the batteries is monitored continuously. - They are fully compatible with Teknoware Local Contoller and Switch Controller as well as Intelligent Controller.- Customers can program battery operation to continue from 1 to 15 minutes after electric power has been restored (not available in TK23xxC series).

Central battery units in the TK67 series offer effective solutions for supplying a large quantity of luminaires. They are especially suited for large premises.

The central unit input voltage is 230 VAC. The output voltage is 230 VAC in normal mode and 216 VDC in battery mode. The battery voltage is 216 V, which is achieved by connecting eighteen 12 volt batteries in series.

In addition to the normal emergency lighting functions, central battery units in the Tapsa Control TKT67xxC series make it possible to test automatically

the condition of the central unit itself and the luminaires connected to it. The testing of luminaires is based on individual addresses and the communication is by means of the power supply cables. Thus there is no need for any separate data cabling between the luminaires. The luminaires must be of the Teknoware model number ending in the letter K or they must have a separate address module. Utilisation of these luminaires also enables the connection of maintained and non-maintained luminaires to the same circuit and allows local supply monitoring using Teknoware Local Controller, or Intelligent Controller,

which can also be used to control the non-maintained emergency luminaires.

These central battery units have, depending on the model, either 16, 24, 32, 40, 48 or 56 output circuits, which can be set to function as maintained or non-maintained. A maximum of 32 addressable luminaires can be connected to one circuit. Circuits can also be connected in parallel to increase the output power with the following changeover module outputs possible: 8 x 350 VA, 4 x 700 VA or 2 x 1400 VA.

Central battery units in the TK68 series offer effective and space-saving solutions for supplying a moderate quantity of luminaires. They are especially suited for mid-sized and large premises where it is desirable to divide the central battery system into multiple independent regions.

The central unit input voltage is 230 VAC, except for three phase input models (that end with letter F) the input voltage is 400 VAC. The output voltage is 230 VAC in normal mode and 216 VDC in battery mode. The battery voltage is 216 V, which is achieved by connecting eighteen 12 volt batteries in series.

TKT68xxC central battery unit can accommodate batteries up to 18 x 65 Ah into its casing; therefore, it is well suited

for locations where only a limited amount of space is available.

In addition to the normal emergency lighting functions, central battery units in the Tapsa Control TKT68xxC series make it possible to test automatically the condition of the central unit itself and the luminaires connected to it. The testing of luminaires is based on individual addresses and the communication is by means of the power supply cables. Thus there is no need for any separate data cabling between the luminaires. The luminaires must be of the Teknoware model number ending in the letter K or they must have a separate address module. Utilisation of these luminaires also enables the connection of maintained and non-maintained

luminaires to the same circuit and allows local supply monitoring using Teknoware Local Controller, or Intelligent Controller, which can also be used to control the non-maintained emergency luminaires.

These central batteryunits have, depending on the model, either 8, 16 or 24 output circuits, which can be set to function as maintained of non-maintained. A maximum of 32 addressable luminaires can be connected to one circuit. Circuits can also be connected in parallel to increase the output power with the following changeover module outputs possible: 8 x 350 VA, 4 x 700 VA or 2 x 1400 VA.

Central battery units in the TK23 series offer simple solutions for supplying a relatively small number of luminaires. They are especially suited for small and mid-sized premises and applications where it is desirable to divide the central battery system into multiple independent regions.

The central unit input voltage is 230 VAC. The output voltage is 230 VAC in normal mode and 230 VDC in battery mode. The battery voltage is 24 V, which is achieved by connecting two 12 volt batteries in series. The central battery unit has switch mode converters to raise the 24 VDC battery voltage to a 230 VDC output voltage when operating in battery mode.

This technology makes it possible to have an economical and compact battery pack and yet have all the benefits of a 230 VDC output voltage, such as low voltage losses in output cables.

CENTRAL BATTERY UNITS / 230 V

TK23xx

Central battery units in the TK23 series offer simple solutions for supplying a relatively small number of luminaires. They are especially suited for small and mid-sized premises and applications where it is desirable to divide the central battery system into multiple independent regions.

The central unit input voltage is 230 VAC. The output voltage is 230 VAC in normal

mode and 230 VDC in battery mode. The battery voltage is 24 V, which is achieved by connecting two 12 volt batteries in series. The central battery unit has switch mode converters to raise the 24 VDC battery voltage to a 230 VDC output voltage when operating in battery mode. This technology makes it possible to have an economical and compact battery pack and yet have all the benefits of a 230

VDC output voltage, such as low voltage losses in output cables.

These central units have, depending on the model, from 1 to 8 output circuits, each of which can be set to function as maintained or non-maintained or periodically.

Switch Controller

Utilising the Switch Controller TST28xx, it is possible under normal mode to activate the luminaires connected to the central battery unit using either a light switch or a timer.During an emergency mode, the Switch Controller switches the supply to take place from the central battery unit. In this case, all the luminaires will be lit automatically whether the light switch is on or off.The Switch Controller TST28xxx is compatible with all Teknoware central battery units having a 230 VAC/DC output. It can also be used with the Local Controller.

Local Controller

The Local Controller enables local control of emergency lighting luminaires in central battery systems. It monitors the local supply, and controls the emergency luminaires connected to it. Models TS90695, TS90696, TST6803 and TST6804 have a relay output for controlling other devices. The relay output changes status when the Local Controller is activated. Models TS90695, TS90696, TST6803 and TST6804 also have a switch control input and a potentiometer for setting a time delay so that the connected luminaires remain lit after the normal power supply has been restored.

Both maintained and non-maintained emergency luminaires can be connected to the same circuit wiring.Teknoware luminaires (when the code ends with a letter K) can be installed as a non-maintained when used with the Local Controller.

With Teknoware’s Intelligent Controller it is possible to switch on any emergency luminaire through any freely selectable voltage input (8 pcs) of the TST8801 control unit. Each voltage input has its own galvanically separated L and N connection. The system consists of max 32 pcs of TST8801 Intelligent Controller units, TST6x5x interface which is installed inside the CBU and the Software which is installed in the PC and used to program the inputs of one or more TST8801 units. The programming of the system and the luminaires is done with a PC through a USB interface in the TST8804 control unit, which is included in the CBU-specific interface package. The luminaire control package can be used with the Teknoware TKT6x Control central battery units and K-type addressable luminaires. Each TST8801 has its individual address which is set with a DIP switch. The system enables the switching on/off of the non-maintained emergency luminaires through the TST8801 inputs. At the same time it is possible to monitor the voltage of several fuse boxes or general lighting. When in one or more fuse box the voltage disappears, the specified emergency luminaires will switch on in AC voltage.

The system makes it possible to determine lots of different alternatives to control the non-maintained emergency luminaires on and off with the TST8801 inputs.

The system consists of a TST6x Control CBU, addressable luminaires and the following components which are needed in the Intelligent Controller system:-Intelligent Controller TST8801 with 8 voltage inputs (max 32 pcs in one system)-Intelligent Controller interface TS6x5x inside the CBU-TST8851 Intelligent Controller Software, which is used to program the system via a PC (the Software is included in the interface package)The data between the Intelligent Controller and the control interface in the CBU travels through a 2-core data cable. The maximum length of the bus cable is 1 500 m. The data between the Intelligent Controller and the CBU travels through the data bus cable.

The system settings are done with a PC Software during the implementation of the system. Any input of any Intelligent Controller can be set to control any luminaire or luminaires in any circuit. Logical switches can be programmed in the system so that the inputs of one TST8801 unit can form groups which can control the luminaires. Logical switches function so that when a switch of any group activates, all luminaires which are programmed in that group will switch on. Individual inputs and logical switches can also be used inverted.

Switched-Maintained enables the switching on/off of the emergency lighting circuits as maintained or non-maintained using an external relay or switch.

In the addressable central battery units (except TK23xxC) it is possible to switch on/off all the circuits of one circuit board and it is also possible to select the type of control as NO or NC.

The mode loops on the circuit boards are replaced with the Switched-Maintaned unit.

In non-addressable central battery units and in TK23xxC one circuit and in TKT31/41 two circuits can be controlled at a time.

Switched-Maintained is available as an option for all Teknoware central battery units.

WebCM enables central monitoring of the central battery systems via Internet. The system consists of a Web module connected to a central battery unit. Each central battery unit has an individual IP address and an ordinary Internet browser serves as a user interface. The basic system indicates the state of the central battery unit and the luminaires connected to it and displays the test log book information. The user may also run luminaire and battery tests. WebCM is available for the central battery units in the TKT65, TKT66, TKT67 and TKT68 series, which are equipped with addressable monitoring function.

WebACM is a user-specific software for WebCM system via Ethernet TCP/IP. User-specific software enables the use of a mapping application which indicates the location of the equipment in the building.

Teknoware’s Advanced Central Monitoring (ACM) is a central monitoring system utilising a separate network for the Tapsa Control central battery units. The BACnet module in the central battery unit allows it to be connected directly to a building automation system. The BACnet application make it possible to access all the information supplied by the central battery unit. In the BACnet interface, information is transferred as BACnet objects. Teknoware uses BACnet modules as an interface to transfer BACnet objects from the central battery units and luminaires. Battery and luminaire tests can also be initiated.

PC software can be used to read the information of the central battery units through the BACnet bus.

Cutting-edge technology for emergency lighting For emergency lighting there have been and still are only two basic solutions, both of which are determined by the location of the battery: - Central battery systems, where a central battery bank powers several luminaires- Self-contained systems, where each luminaire has its own battery Each alternative offers certain advantages and disadvantages. Central battery systems offer the advantage of easy testing and maintenance, whereas self-contained systems offer flexible installations due to simpler cabling. The definitive disadvantage of self-contained systems has been the limited lifespan of batteries. Besides which, the changing of batteries could be very labour intensive as the batteries are located in possibly hundreds of luminaires. Teknoware solves the battery problem of self-contained luminaires by replacing the batteries with ESCAP technology. Using LED luminaires and the wireless Aalto Control remote management system together, it is possible to create a solution where the advantages of both central battery and self-contained systems can be combined and the disadvantages eliminated.

Capacitors replace batteries ESCAP is self-contained luminaire product line which combines capacitive energy storage with the latest LED technology. Unlike traditional applications, the energy required during a power outage is not stored in traditional electrochemical batteries but in very high capacitance low-voltage capacitors. Capacitors cannot replace batteries directly due to their different voltage characteristics. A capacitor’s charge voltage and current must be controlled accurately and as wide a relative voltage range as possible must be utilised when the capacitor is discharged. Teknoware has developed special power converter technology to overcome these challenges and as a result, it has been possible to utilise this quickly advancing technology in practical applications.

Maintenance-free service for more than ten years ESCAP technology makes it possible to manufacture self-contained luminaires which contain no harmful substances and which require no regular battery replacements. Capacitors have a lifespan of over ten years, which matches the life expectancy of modern surface mount LEDs. As a result, the luminaire does not require maintenance during its lifespan. In addition, it does not contain any hazardous waste, so it can be recycled at the time of disposal like any ordinary electronic waste. As an energy source, the capacitor offers the added advantage of having much shorter charge time in comparison to traditional battery technology. As a result, full emergency lighting capacity is restored quickly after a power outage. Environmental Advantages also include the fact that ESCAP luminaires use very little energy because a fully charged capacitor is consuming practically no power at all.

AALTO CONTROL SELF-CONTAINED LUmINAIRES

LUmITEST SELF-TESTING LUmINAIRES

Aalto Control provides a wireless central monitoring for self-contained luminaires. There is no need to connect the luminaires with data cables. The only requirement is that each individual luminaire has a local power supply, like any standard self-contained luminaire. All the benefits of the self-contained luminaires are preserved and each luminaire functions independently. Installation is simple and the luminaires can be easily positioned even during renovations. The network is used only for collecting information and does not affect the operation of the luminaires. For this reason, Aalto Control is as robust and resistant to failures as any other self-contained luminaire system.

Aalto Control always includes Lumi Test. Product codes of Aalto Control luminaires end with letter A.

Lumi Test self-diagnosis, which is available for self-contained luminaries, automatically tracks and tests the reliable operation of luminaires. LED indicators (one green and one red one display the status of the luminaires. Red LED indicates fault.

Lumi Test is used to track the actual output intensity of LED lights and the emergency mode duration. The luminaire is general functionality and light source are tested daily. Full emergency mode duration is tested every 6 months.

The Crystal exit luminaire has a unique light plate design which makes this model very attractive. The luminaire is appropriate for ceiling or wall mounting. The luminaire can be used in a single or double face configuration. A separate installation kit is available for flush mounting. Long-lasting LEDs are used as a light source.

The exit symbol is printed on a separate plate which can be easily installed from the top in a slot in the middle of the light plate. Because the luminaire is supplied with several alternative exit symbols, the indicated exit direction can be easily changed as needed. The luminaire is double faced but can be changed to single faced by using the white cover plate which is included.

SAFE 29

EXIT AND EMERGENCY LUMINAIRES

The Safe 29 is suited for demanding environmental condi-tions. It has a plastic frame and can be used as an exit or an emergency luminaire. As an exit luminaire, it is suited for wall mounting. It combines elegant design with a high protection rating.

For emergency luminaire applications, an 18 W model is also available which allows a higher mounting height. The double insulated construction material is shock resistant plastic.

The luminaire is available with either a long-life LEDs or a fluorescent lamp. The luminaires in the Safe 29 product line are suited for interior and exterior applications.

Thanks to the improved LED technology the new ESCAP models are now available, offering longer mounting distance for both open area (TWS2992WAC) and escape routes (TWS2992WAB). With these new models also 4 m mounting height is now possible.

The elegant exit luminaire Esc 3 has an extruded aluminium frame and has been designed for long viewing distances.

The luminaire is suitable for wall, ceiling and suspended mounting. The luminaire can be used in a single or double face configuration. Illumination is provided by a fluorescent lamp as a light source.

Having a viewing distance of up to 120 m, the Esc 3 is well-suited for large public areas.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS GENERAL

Question: What do the following signs mean?Answer: = Luminaire is suitable for through-wiring = Protection rating

= Double insulated luminaire (doesn´t need an earthing cable) = The product conforms with the essential requirements of the

applicable EC directives.

Question: Why emergency lighting is needed?Answer: Emergency lighting is mandatory in workplaces and public buildings. Emergency lighting makes possible the safe ending of working and evacuation of the

building in case of an emergency.

Question: Is there a minimum order quantity?Answer: No, you can order just one luminaire, but there is a fee for small delivery. Extra handling fee is 100€ for a shipment of an order under 250€.

Question: How fast can I get products?Answer: Typical delivery time for the products in the catalogue is two to three (2-3) weeks (Ex-works) from the written order, but faster delivery is also often possible

depending on the product, capacity of our production, and the amount of the products you want to order. Delivery date will be confirmed with the order

confirmation.

ABOUT LUMINAIRES

Question: Can I have luminaires in other colours than in white or grey (which are basic colours for Teknoware luminaires)?Answer: Yes, almost all the luminaires can be painted in RAL colours (there will be extra charge of painting).

Question: Do I need to to buy a pictogram for exit luminaire?Answer: Pictogram needs to be bought always separately for exit luminaires. Direction of the arrow needs to be informed in the order, pictogram can be a label or

light plate depending on the luminaire. There are so called multifunction labels for some exit luminaires. You can choose the figure by yourself and remove

the parts of the label with e.g. a knife. With light plates you have to know the direction of arrow, because there is no multifunction figure available.

Question: Is the pictogram fixed into the luminaire ?Answer: Pictogram will be fixed into the luminaire in our production unless customer asks pictogram to be packed sepately. Separately packed pictograms

customer has to paste / fix by oneself. Sometimes label needs to be cut for the shape. Taping labels into the luminaire cover is included in the price of the

luminaire, when pictogram is bought together with the exit luminaire.

ABOUT CENTRAL BATTERY UNITS

Question: What kind of central battery unit do I need?Answer: It depends on the size of the central battery unit you will need, if you need an addressable or a non-addressable system, how many circuits there should

be, how many and what kind of emergency and exit luminaires will be used in the system and should it work in 24 V or 230 V system.

Question: How do I calculate what kind of batteries I need for the Central battery unit?Answer: You have to calculate the total input power of all the (exit and emergency) luminaires is the system (total load / central battery unit).

Question: Do I need a battery cabinet or battery cables?Answer: It depends on the central battery unit and size of the batteries. If you need a separate battery cabinet you will also need a battery cable. Some central

battery units have space for batteries, and there is no need for a separate battery cabinet. For example, there is space for 2 x 38 Ah batteries in TK2301-04

central battery units, bigger than 38 Ah batteries need a separate battery cabinet.

Question: What kind of battery cabinet do I need?Answer: It depends on the batteries. You will find the tables of battery cabinets on every central battery unit page at the beginning of this product catalogue.

Question: Which one of the battery cables is correct for my system? Answer: Battery cable will be determined based on the batteries. You will find the tables of battery cables on every central battery unit page at the beginning of this

product catalogue.

Delivery time The delivery time is confirmed for each order with the order confirmation. Typically it is two-three weeks (Ex-works) from written order.

Luminaires Pictogram needs to be ordered always separately. Pictogram will be pasted into the exit luminaire cover at the factory without extra fee. If

pictogram is wanted to be separately packed, it needs to be clearly informed in the order. Emergency luminaire includes EMERGENCY

LUMINAIRE label in the package.

Delay interest 8%. Interest of delayed payments will be determined according to Directive 2000/35/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council

of 29 June 2000. Teknoware Oy retains full ownership of the goods until the invoices have totally been paid. Prior hereto, buyers cannot

transfer ownership to anyone.

Other terms Other terms according to orgalime supply conditions, August 2000; no other compensations can be demanded.
