METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION OF HERBS

MODE OF ADMINISTRATION

The parts of herbs collected should be clean and fresh in case of dreid material the leaves & flower should be dreid under shade and other parts i.e Roots , bark, fruits, seeds etc., are dried under direct sun light and are stored properly.

1. JUICE (SWARAS ) – Fresh herbal parts like leaves,flowers,roots bark etc are ground and extracted juice & is strained. The juice is freshly prepared and used and is weuld not be stored. Honey, Sugar, Water, etc., are added asper the prescription. Dose : 1to 2tsp.

2. PASTE (KALKAM) =- Fresh raw metrials are grined and dry ones by adding little water. It should not be stored . Dose 1 to 2 tsp.

3. POWDER (CHOORNAM) – Dry Medicinal plant parts are made into powder and is stored This powder can be stored for 2 to 6 months Dose – 1 to 2 tsp.

4. DECOCTION (KWATH) – After cleaning the material either fresh or dried is made into small pieces are placed in a dish 8 times water is added & is slowly heated till it reduces to ¼ and strained, it can be stored for 12 hours DSE –15-30ml.

5. EFFERVESCENCE (PHANTAM) - The dried drug material is made into powder and is added to the boiling water & is cooled Strained (coffee like) is used immediately DOSE – 15ml to 30ml.

6.HIMAM (COLD) - The drugs are made into powder and are immersed in 10 liters of water, is kept for over night (12 hours). In the morning it is srained & is freshly used DOSE – 15-30ml.

7. OINTMENT, LINIMENT *(LEPAM) - Fresh drugs are made into paste and is applied over the effected parts Dried ones are made into powder by adding water or oil and is applied externally

8. OIL (TAILAM) – 1 Part fresh herbal juice, paste or powder, 4 parts oil (sesamuin or coconut oil) is added and is heated on low flame till only oil part remains, cooled and strained. It can be stored upto one year. For external application over the skin or scalp

9. PILLS, TABLETS (VATI,GUTI) – Properly dried material is made into fine powder prescribed liquid (Water,Honey,Ghee) are added and is grained well and is made into pills and dired. This can be used upto 2 years.

10. HALWA (LEHYAM) - Fresh juice of herbs or decoction sugar or gagery is added stirred well and is strained This is kept in low flame till it solidifies. Then the aromatics are added it can be used for 1 year.
