Annette Barwick and Brenda Robinson this week announced that they will be taking extended leave in 2010. Both Annette and Brenda have had distinguished careers with the NSW Dept of Education for well over 30 years.. Annette and Brenda have been ou t s t and ing classroom teachers at Telarah Public School for a number of years. Many students have achieved excellent learning outcomes due to the professional manner that Annette and Brenda have implemented quality teaching and learning programs. On behalf of all students, staff and parents associated with Telarah Public School I wish Annette and Brenda a most enjoyable time on leave next year. READING It is widely recognised that many children actually go back a few weeks in their reading over the vacation. In strongly suggest that you encourage your children to read for a few minutes each day so that their skill level is maintained. It is a wonderful habit to get into and certainly great for their confidence when they return to school.

2009 PREMIER’S READING CHALLENGE A huge congratulations to all 333 students who completed the Premier’s Reading Challenge this year. The certificates have been issued and if your child received one they should bring it home today. If there are any problems, please contact Ms Hazell. 2009 PREMIER’S SPORTING CHALLENGE Telarah Public School was one of over 830 public schools participating in the Premier’s Sporting Challenge (PSC) in 2009. The aim was to increase students time involved in sport and physical activity each day. Every participated in the challenge as part of their class PE program and as individuals during lunch and recess breaks. Our school easily achieved GOLD level as we have a comprehensive PE & sport program for students. Telarah Public School also provides a lunchtime structured play program for Infants and Primary students. The PSC grant also provided funds for new handball courts and playground markings, new balls for the playground and our fixed equipment also is very popular, keeping our pupils active each day. The PSC funds also allowed for purchases of class PE kits, tennis nets, athletics equipment, touch football and t-ball equipment. Thank you to junior and senior house captains, Mr Rees and Mr Sallustio and their helpers who contributed to our wonderful result. Thank you also to the teachers Mr Taylor, Mr Willcocks, Mrs Fleming, Mrs Sherlock and Mrs T a y l o r f o r o r g a n i s e d competitions in Rugby League,

soccer, hockey, netball, cricket , touch football and futsal. Thank you also to Mrs Akhurst for keeping the whole school dancing and the teachers who ran the swimming school Mrs Banister, Mrs Greedy, Mrs Sherlock, Mr Rees & Mr Janetzki. Thank you also to Mr Sarquis and Mr Debenham who organised whole school athletics and swimming carnival which were well attended. 2N is pictured below showing the red PE kit which they enjoyed using class PE lessons. Certificates were distributed this week.

PRE-SCHOOL CONCERT The Pre-school had a wonderful end of year celebration with their annual concert in the hall last Tuesday. They sang, used percussion instruments and danced for all their parents and friends. Thank you pre-school children for all your hard work and your performance. Thank you to the family and friends who attended. MOBILE PHONES

CARTRIDGE RECYCLING

Our school now has a box in the office to recycle all printer, fax and photocopier cartridges. Anyone who has old cartridges at home or work is welcome to place them in the box at the front office. NIT NIGHT

Please remember that Monday is nit night where we ask all parents to check their child’s hair for head lice and treat if necessary. Where possible, we are asking that girls with long hair come to school with their hair tied back. This may also help to prevent the spread of head lice.
