Heys is More Than Ready... Bryce Heys will go out on his own next week as a

trainer after serving as aforeman to leading trainerJohn O=Shea, and the youngNew Zealander will have allthe tools to succeed aftersecuring yesterday=s sessiontopper, a colt by More ThanReady, for A$600,000. Outof the stakes-placedPolaway (Aus) (Giant=sCauseway), a daughter ofGroup 1 winner PolarSuccess (Aus) (Success

Express {Aus}), lot 647 was another headline horse forthe Kelly family=s Newhaven Farm, which also producedFriday=s A$1 million session topper.

Heys, who will start his training business with a half-dozen horses at Warwick Farm in Sydney, would notdisclose the colt=s new owner, but said: AI put a teamtogether to buy him. I=m very, very fortunate for thepeople that are behind me. They=ve instructed me tofind the best colts, and this one here I thought wouldn=thave been out of place in a sale like Easter. I=m veryfortunate to be in the position that once I getunderway, I=ll have a colt of this caliber.@ Heys said the colt was at the top of his list, andexplained that the family has some young potentialstars. AWe viewed him as the colt of the sale,@ he said. ATobe able to secure a colt of this quality is very rare. He=sa three-quarter brother in blood to two horses that havea lot of potential. That potential is not fulfilled yet, butthere are two very good colts, one that I=ve had a lot todo with.@

Gai=s Great Day... Gai Waterhouse enjoyed a banner day at the GoldCoast races, winning three races in a row including theA$1 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas, and she andher team continued their spending spree last night, most notably going to A$525,000 for lot 599, a coltfrom the fourth and final crop of last year=s champion

first season sire NorthernMeteor (Aus), who washimself trained byWaterhouse to a victory inthe G1 Coolmore Stud S. "I trained Northern Meteorfor Mr. Cojuangco to aGroup 1 win, and he stoodat Widden Stud until hisdemise, and yes, I'mdelighted to be training

him," Waterhouse said. Bloodstock agent James Harron noted the colt, out ofthe Group 2-placed Ms Bowie, looked like one of themore precocious offerings by his sire in the sale. AHe was a gorgeous colt,@ Harron noted. ANorthernMeteor has passed and he started so well, so whoknows how far he can keep going. He was a standoutNorthern Meteor.@ Northern Meteor, who currently stands as the leadingsecond season sire, died after a bout of colic at WiddenStud just days before being crowned champion lastyear. His five stakes winners include dual Group 1winner Zoustar (Aus), who will take his place at Widdenupon retirement after being syndicated in October.

Lonhro Colt Goes International... Eliza Park International has been going to high pricesto buy quality colts this week under the moniker SunBloodstock, and they added another to their collection

last night when picking up lot614, a son of Lonhro (Aus),for A$520,000. Alvin Lui,Eliza Park International chiefexecutive officer, noted thatwhile the operation--purchased last year by HongKong-based investment groupSun International--plans torace both colts and fillies, it isthe former they are targetingon the Gold Coast, and thiscolt topped their list by

physical standards. APhysically, we loved this colt the most in the sale,@Lui revealed. AWe loved the pedigree and the crossbetween Lonhro and Exceed and Excel, so we expect alot from him.@ Eliza Park=s tally sits at eight yearlings after the fourthsession, but Lui noted that the team had seen manymore they liked, and were working on deals to buy intoothers privately. AMainly we like to own our own horses 100%, butsometimes we do syndications with good partners,@ Luisaid.

A Fastnet For Flower... Damien Flower of Jadeskye Racing backed out on theA$1 million sale topper Friday at the A$950,000 mark, but he remained strong through a fierce bidding battleearly in the session yesterday for lot 579, a daughter ofFastnet Rock that he eventually secured for A$420,000while sitting alongside trainer Gerald Ryan. AIt=s a fantastic pedigree,@ Flower said. AWe=ve had acouple from the family and she=s probably the mostathletic Fastnet Rock here. She was very good on thex-rays and she was athletic, so she was the one wewanted.@ Flower noted he had a bit more left in the tank for thedaughter of Group 3 winner Miss Judgement (Aus)(Strategic {Aus}), from the family of the Ryan-trainedG1 Oakleigh Plate winner Mrs Onassis (Aus) (GeneralNediym {Aus}), would AI would have gone a touch further,@ he said. AGeraldvalued her at A$600,000-A$700,000, so we still had alittle bit in the bank, but we=re happy to get hercheaper.@ He added: AShe=ll head up to Amarina Farm in theHunter Valley. We=ll give her a little bit of a break andsee how she pulls up, and probably break her in in sixto eight weeks, depending on how she feels.@ One lot earlier, a More Than Ready colt from thesame family (lot 578) brought A$350,000 from trainerChris Waller. Flower was featured a short time later as the breederof lot 593, a Snitzel (Aus) colt picked up by DavidRaphael for A$350,000. Raphael revealed that lot 579will be owned in partnership by Stallion Racing,Jadeskye Racing and Teeley Assets, and will be trainedby Ryan, who conditioned Snitzel. AGerald has been my trainer for 30 years,@ Raphaelnoted. AGerald tells me it=s the best Snitzel here, and Ireally like him as well. I=m going to take Gerald=sjudgement over my humble opinion because he=s theking of Snitzel.@ The colt will race under the same ownership asRubick (Aus) (Encosta de Lago {Aus}), an impressivetrial winner at Rosehill last week. Rubick was purchasedby Raphael for A$460,000 here last year.

BC3 Lots Sell... Friday=s abbreviated session also included the sale ofthe repossessed BC3 Thoroughbreds horses. Thatoperation dissipated after former chairman Bill Vlahoswent bankrupt late last year, and eight of its formerpurchases were offered last night. Heading the list waslot 610, a Fastnet Rock-Native Song (NZ), by Mellifontfilly secured by Matchem Racing for A$450,000. Thatfilly was originally purchased by BC3 for A$260,000 atthe Magic Millions National Weanling Sale last year.Seven 2-year-olds went through the ring at the end ofthe yearling session, and a Fastnet Rock filly once againtopped the leaderboard. Lot 1193 is out of AmazingTale (Tale of the Cat), a stakes winner in the U.S., andwas picked up by Eales Racing for A$220,000. Twoother six-figure prices featured amongst therepossessed lots: the A$150,000 paid by trainer PaulMessara for an Encosta de Lago (Aus) colt, and theA$130,000 paid by Hancock Quality Bloodstock for aStarcraft (NZ) filly. The L'Ormarins Queen's Plate is one of the criticalraces on the South African calendar in deciding the bestmiler, and best horse, in South Africa. Jackson settled on hisoutside as No Worries took upthe pacemaking duties, and wenta few lengths clear at the frontof the race. Turning into the straight where

the false rail cuts away, Capetown Noir went for theinside rail while Jackson shifted outwards for his run asthe field fanned outwards in the start of their sprint forhome. It was quickly clear Capetown Noir was cuttingback the deficit on the leader the quickest, however, and he was first to steel away the lead. Mucho Macho Man Works... Mucho Macho Man (Macho Uno) geared up for nextSaturday=s Sunshine Millions Classic with a four-furlongworkout in :47.87 at Gulfstream Saturday. The6-year-old, owned by Reeves Thoroughbred Racing, worked well off the inside rail and finished stronglythrough the stretch in preparation for his first startsince capturing the GI Breeders= Cup Classic at SantaAnita Nov. 2. AHe worked great,@ trainer Kathy Ritvosaid. AIt was nice to see him off the fence. It was alittle deeper there. He=s a smart horse. He knows whathe=s doing. My job is easy.@ Racing manager Finn Greenadded, AIt gives us a lot of options. With the weatherdown here and the rain, we wanted to take the firstshot at a dry track that we could get. If it comes upwet we can go somewhere after that, but it launchesus into February and March after that.@

Akeed Mofeed to Dubai, Will Pass On Australia Trip... Akeed Mofeed (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), last-out winner ofthe G1 Longines Hong Kong Cup at Sha Tin Dec. 8, hasbeen ruled out of a trip to Sydney for the newly minted>The Championships= and is confirmed for a trip toDubai, trainer Richard Gibson told South China MorningPost. Following his victory on home turf last month,Akeed Mofeed was penciled in for the G1 QueenElizabeth S., but quarantine requirements following thatrace would preclude an appearance in the G1 AudemarsPiguet Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Sha Tin a few weekslater. "I think you can say that Dubai is confirmed forAkeed Mofeed, although we still have to think aboutwhich race--the [G1] Dubai Duty Free [1800 meters, turf] or the [G1] Dubai World Cup [2000 meters, all-weather]," Gibson told the SCMP. "In the end, thequarantine situation with Australia made the decisionfor us." The Australian option loomed an interestingone, as the 5-year-old could enter stud in the nationfollowing his racing career. Should owner Pan Sutongopt for the World Cup, Gibson is inclined to send AkeedMofeed over for a course-and-distance prep in the G1 Maktoum Challenge-R3 Mar. 8. Akeed Mofeed willpass next Sunday=s 1600-meter Stewards Cup and willmake his next appearance in the Hong Kong Gold Cupat his pet 2000-meter distance Feb. 23. TheGibson/Sutong team will be represented in theStewards Cup by G1 Hong Kong Mile runner-up Gold-Fun (Ire) (Le Vie Dei Colori {GB}).

Gosden: Kingman Is Fine... Trainer John Gosden yesterday quashed rumors thatKingman (GB) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}), one of the earlyfavorites for the G1 2000 Guineas, would miss thatMay 3 Classic, according to Racing Post. Twitter talksuggested Juddmonte=s homebred colt, unbeaten intwo outings including the G3 Solario S., had beeninjured, by Gosden told the trade daily: AThat=s news tome. I was particularly pleased with him this morning. Itis well documented he had surgery to remove a chip inhis joint. He has been fine since and is back jogging.@

Puissance de Lune to Return... Gerry Ryan=s Puissance de Lune (Ire) (Shamardal),once the favorite for last year=s G1 Melbourne Cup butforced to sit out the A$6 million contest due to injury,is being prepared for an Australian spring campaign, trainer Darren Weir told Racing Victoria. The 6-year-old,a three-time group winner Down Under, was last seenfinishing 12 in the G1 Cox Plate Oct. 26, a race heth

exited with a tendon injury. Weir noted the grey isprogressing well, but he will not be pushed. AOne lesionis healing up really well but the other lesion is just goinga bit slower than expected, but we=ve got heaps of timeso he=s fine,@ Weir said. AGerry is keen to race againnext spring and obviously when we bring him intowork, if things aren=t going the right way then he=ll goand have a career at stud. The leg needs a lot moretime than what it has had yet.@ Weir noted that vetswould examine Puissance de Lune again next week, and if all is well, he will go for a stint on Ryan=s farmbefore going back into training.

but [Larry] told me he pushed them every which wayand it looks like she came out fine. She=ll go back to thetrack [today].@ While Porter is not willing to compareCassatt to former stable star and Horse of the YearHavre de Grace (Saint Liam), he said Jones holds her inhigh stead. AWhat Larry told me that she was probablythe best 2-year-old he=s ever had,@ he offered. AHe=dnever tell you that she=s better than Havre de Grace. But at this point, he certainly feels as strongly abouther as he did about [GI Kentucky Derby runner-up] EightBelles, and I feel strongly that she=s alot like [GIBreeders= Cup Distaff winner] Round Pond (AwesomeAgain). She didn=t get any great numbers for that racethe other day, but she did learn a lot, and if she hadclear sailing, she might have pulled off and won by 10or 12. We=ll see how good she is against strongercompany.@ Cassatt follows the likes of fellow TapitsJoyful Victory and Normandy Invasion to carry the FoxHill red-and-white with some success. AWe don=t golooking for Tapits,@ Porter noted. AHe=s making somehorses that appeal to [bloodstock advisor Tom]McGreevy and me. We used to get pulled towardsUnbridled=s Song, because he churned out a lot of goodhorses and I guess Tapit is producing some horses thatare appealing to us. She recorded the thirdstraight victory on the day for the Gai Waterhousestable. "She's a very good filly," Waterhouse said.

"She was a high class 2-year-old who ran second inthe Magic Millions [Classic] and then third in theSlipper. She's been at the top level for a long time andshe's just such a talented galloper. For a top 2-year-old,she has come back better as a 3-year-old. She keeps onimproving all the time." Former Australian Football League star CampbellBrown is part of the filly=s ownership, and he added: "Itwas a super win. We were a little bit concerned as shehadn't run 1400 meters before, but she came out andblew them away. It was fantastic."
