Over 20 Temecula restaurants are participating in a state-wide promotion to dine at some of the best restaurants in California
throughout the month of January.
Temecula Valley restaurants will celebrate California Restaurant Month from January 1 to 31. Over 20 restaurants in Wine Country, Old Town, The Promenade, Pechanga Resort & Casino and around town will participate.
“Temecula Restaurant Month is an incredible opportunity to experience some of the best wine and food in the destination at a value they can’t get at any other time of the year,” Kimberly Adams, president and CEO of the Temecula Valley Convention & Visitors Bureau stated. “January is also a great time to get hotel deals and experience the diversity of what our destination offers, from wine tasting to golfing to gaming.”
All participating restaurants will have a special lunch and dinner menu just for restaurant month. Most of them have lunch items for $5, $10 and $15 and dinner items for $15, $20 and $30. Ask your server what the Restaurant Month specials are if a menu is not featured at the table.
We are pleased to have four of Pechanga Resort & Casino’s outstanding restaurants involved in our promotion.
“Pechanga is very focused on providing a world-class dining experience for our guests. We are excited to partner with Visit California and the Temecula Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau to provide a full range of cuisines served at our numerous restaurants for those looking to have a California dining adventure in January,” states Dennis Khanh, Vice President of Food and Beverage at Pechanga.
The participating restaurants include Baily’s, Bamboo at Pechanga, Carol’s at Baily’s Winery, Creekside Grill at Wilson Creek Winery, Fish Monger Café, Front Street Bar & Grill, It’s All Good Bar & Grill, Kelsey’s Bar & Grill at Pechanga, Meritage at Callaway Winery, Paisano’s Italian at Pechanga, Scarcella’s Italian Grill, Seafood Grotto at Pechanga, Shorty’s Bistro at Mount Palomar Winery, Sizzler in Murrieta, Sweet Lumpy’s BBQ, Temet Grill at Temecula Creek Inn, The Bank Mexican Restaurant & Bar, The Pinnacle at Falkner Winery, The Restaurant at Leoness Cellars, and Tilted Kilt. Please check the website for an updated list, menus and more information, www.restaurantmonth.org.
Temecula is excited to participate in California Restaurant Month, designated by Visit California. Upwards of 30 destinations across California, from the desert and coast to wine country and High Sierra, are hosting restaurant weeks and
other value-driven food programming this January.
“Last year’s inaugural California Restaurant Month was a huge success, with 23 participating destinations. We’re thrilled to see the program grow to include even more destinations so we can continue to tell California’s amazing culinary story,” said Caroline Beteta, Visit California president & CEO.
Last year travelers in California spent $23.1 billion on food and beverages, more than for any other spending segment and constituting 26 percent of all visitor spending last year (Source: Dean Runyan Associates), For more information about participating cities, visit www.visitcalifornia.com/restaurantmonth

Wine CounTrya Dining ExpEriEnCE
It’s been said that wine tastes best when consumed in its natural environment. Right where it’s produced. Where you can see the vineyards, smell the earth and feel the sunshine. In the Temecula Valley, one can visit the many
wineries and do just that. But, unlike any other wine region in the state, here, you can take that one step further...
Imagine a perfect pairing. The marriage of food and wine. An omg! moment of the palate. And then suppose, just suppose that you could sense that right here in your own back yard.
The Temecula Valley offers a vast array of wine country dining. All are connected not only to an individual winery property, but also by the foods they serve as complement to the wines they produce. From a casual al fresco lunch to a four star dining experience, the region is quickly becoming known for its wine and food connection. A diverse collection of gourmet experiences are closer than you think!
Medieval in architecture, contemporary in food style, Carol’s Restaurant at Baily Winery is open Thursday through Sunday for lunch. Carol’s offers an extensive menu featuring local and estate grown produce to match their estate Bordeaux varietal wines.
Meritage at Callaway was named one of the “Hot 100 Restaurants in the Inland Empire”. Chef Mike Henry uses local, sustainable, and organic ingredients to produce wine friendly tapas, salads and entrées with a Mediterranean flair. Open daily.
Not new to dining awards, The Pinnacle at Falkner Winery has garnered numerous Best Restaurant and Best Chef accolades and is famous for their Lobster Mac & Cheese, outstanding views, wonderful wines and meticulous service. Open daily for lunch only.
The Restaurant at Leonesse Cellars features a variety of appetizers, salads, sandwiches and flatbreads that pair with your personal tastes and favorite Leonesse Cellar wines. Open Friday through Sunday for lunch only.
Maurice’s Kitchen at Maurice Car’rie Winery, while famous for their decadent baked brie bread, also serves up a simple and reasonably priced luncheon menu of soups, salads and sandwiches Friday through Sunday.
Weekend visitors to Monte de Oro’s mdo wine bar & bistro are invited to partake in a menu that includes cheese and dessert plates, salads and panini’s created specifically to highlight the winery’s vast flight of wines.
Open daily, Shorty’s Bistro at Mount Palomar Winery features a diverse array of Mediterranean inspired appetizers, sandwiches, soups, stone oven pizzas, delicious entrees, elegant desserts, and many other unique items.
The Restaurant at Ponte Winery serves a wide selection of Farmers’ Market salads, grape-wood fired pizzas, fresh pasta dishes, natural beef, sustainable seafood and homemade desserts. And of course, a full-selection of Ponte wines ready to pair with each dish! Open daily.
The Vineyard Rose at South Coast Winery Resort & Spa offers a taste of casual Southern California elegance with a hint of Tuscany. The ambiance is countryside chic, the menu vast, the hospitality warm as the Mediterranean sun. Open daily.
A Southern California Restaurant Writers Association favorite, Thornton Winery’s Cafe Champagne combines Country French elegance with “Contemporary Fusion Cuisine”. An artfully designed menu pairs wonderfully with the extensive wine list. Open daily.
Fresh, seasonal ingredients and award winning Wilson Creek wines are all the inspiration needed for the offerings at the Creekside Grille. Appetizers, salads, sandwiches and an array of daily specials fill the menu. Open daily.

Happy DayS are Here againrEstaUrants OFFEr valUE & variEty with a FEast OF happy hOUr mEnUs
With the holidays behind us and a full year ahead, you may have made a resolution to eat a little less, watch spending a little more or just capture the spirit of Carpe Diem while you still can!
Treating yourself better makes sense. Not limiting yourself to the same routine day in and day out also makes sense. But what doesn’t always make sense is going out for a full dinner on a weeknight, eating a heavy meal, or sluggishly trying to manage your evening after that bottle of wine.
Enter the perfect solution. Happy hour. The very name, says it all!
We’ve always known about it. We took advantage of it when we were young. But that end of the day, get together and be sociable, somehow got traded for coaching soccer or responding to email.
2012 is the unofficial year of the Happy Hour. It’s a bridge back to prosperity, good times, and a country back on the road to recovery. Network during Happy Hour. Meet for drinks with the guys at Happy Hour. Enjoy the political debates during Happy Hour. In fact, Happy Hour is a great time to celebrate that basketball is back on! Meet for the games throughout the week and relish the action that was almost missed!
Several levels of Happy Hour can be enjoyed here in Temecula. In fact, some of the best restaurants in the Temecula Valley offer great Happy Hours with small bites, priced just right.
Make a date with your best friend, your colleagues of jobs gone by, or that client who you want to get to know better this month at Happy Hour. It’s a great way to start the year off in the right direction! So, forget your troubles, and come on, get happy!

THe banka histOriC plaCE tO DinE
The story of The Bank Building goes back to 1909, when the town of Temecula needed a bank. That was the year the old livery was closed and torn down to make room for the First National Bank of Temecula.
The bank opened in 1914 and closed in 1945 as WWII was ending. During that time, The First National Bank of Temecula became noted for being the site of the first bank robbery in Riverside County. Rich with history for a town and personal memories for many Temecula residents, The Bank represents a huge part of the historic past of our City.
In 1978, David and Artemisa Covarrubias opened, what is now, the oldest Mexican restaurant in the Temecula Valley. In 2007, after the Covarrubias’ retired, Christy and Craig Puma bought the restaurant and took over as caretakers of this historic building in our midst.
“It was a long time dream to own our own business. But we never imagined that business would be a restaurant…funny enough,” said Craig. “But the philosophy is quite simple---treat customers and employees just like we want to be treated. We go out a lot. We like good service, we like good food, we like a clean environment and we like friendly people. That’s what we constantly train at The Bank…to offer our customer a positive experience every time.”
The Bank – Mexican Restaurant & Bar offers a variety of authentic style Mexican cuisine originating from Guanajuato, in the Central Mexico region. If you have only been to Baja California, you will find a slightly different taste that offered at most Mexican Restaurants. We have also added some familiar dishes from Baja and Mexican/American style menus.
Specialties of The Bank include the Carne Asada Plate; Carnitas Plate; Grilled or Battered Fish Tacos; and an excellent Chile Rellano. Another signature dish is the Mexican Ortega Chili Cheeseburger; New York Steak; and Chipotle Chicken wings. To top off the meal, the Fried Carmel Cheesecake and signature Flan is out of this world.
The Bank has a full bar at your service, with many specialty style margaritas alongside your old favorites. Offering such margaritas as the Chipotle Pineapple; Pomerita and Spicy Mango, The Bank customers love the uniqueness of these specialty drinks. Tuesday, Friday and Saturday nights you can enjoy our own Hector Luque. Hector is a professional flair bartender out of Las Vegas and offers quite a show while pouring you your favorite cocktail. Each bartender offers their own style of extra special service.
Additionally, The Bank is planning events such as a Tequila Tasting dinner each quarter. With the first of the 2012 year being January 17, a Tequila Tasting offers a fun lesson about this tantalizing liquor. Participants will gain a full understanding of where Tequila comes from, how it is made and differences between each category. The Tequila Dinner is being presented in the Private Banquet Room located Above The Bank. This second floor private room is available for rent for birthdays, wedding rehearsals, anniversaries or any other occasion. You can also have a DJ or up to a 3 piece band for your music pleasure. The room accommodates up to 44 people with a 20 person minimum. You can chose from the banquet room menu, offering a variety of buffet style meals.
Throughout the year The Bank is also the center of attention. “One event in particular is Western Days. It’s the only time that we have a little fun while being robbed at High Noon,” said Craig. Western Days is generally the 3rd weekend in May. Another event is The Annual Spring Rod Run. People flock to the corner of Old Town Front and Main Street to hang out at this local hot spot during this event, which brings about 50,000 people to our Old Town district.
Many customers come to The Bank as part of a 34 year tradition; some come for the history of this old building; some for the many Old Town events; but all come to enjoy great Mexican food, a fun atmosphere and friendly service. You can also learn about our specials by “Liking” “The Bank – Mexican Restaurant & Bar” on Facebook or follow us on Twitter at “BankofMex”. You can also visit our website at www.thebankmexicanrestaurant.com. Our restaurant offers something for everyone…and you can take that straight to The Bank!

TVCC urgeS paSSage OF ECOnOmiC impaCt analysis rEqUirEmEnt
The Temecula Valley Chamber of Commerce supported a statewide proposal (SB 617) that requires a standard economic impact analysis for major regulations be done at the beginning
of the regulatory process. The Chamber believes SB 617 is an important first step toward regulatory reform in California. The Governor signed SB 617 into law.
SB 617 reforms the regulatory process by requiring an economic analysis of all major regulations at the beginning of the regulatory process, thus providing more transparency and better data on which to base selection of most cost-effective regulatory alternative.
This analysis will then drive the development and selection of regulations that fully meet the goals of the underlying statute while having the least negative impact on the state’s economy. If the agency adopts anything
other than the most cost-effective option, it must state on the record why and justify its choice. Currently a proposed regulation’s fiscal analysis, if any, comes at the end of the process and is not based on uniform standards of analysis.
Economic growth and prosperity depends on a predictable and rational regulatory climate. SB 617 sends a message to investors and employers that California is taking a meaningful step in this direction by requiring a robust economic analysis for major regulations. Additionally, this bill provides for a more transparent regulatory process as well as oversight for state agencies that are involved in the process.
Log on to www.SouthwestCA.biz for more information on the Chamber’s efforts to represent the interests of business at all levels of government.

TouriSM
In a year that saw the tourism industry gradually recover from the abyss it fell into in the recession years, some markets surpassed every analyst’s expectation, drawing more travelers of all kinds into their fast-changing
environs with an aggressive push to get back on track. After New York and Chicago, Southern California experienced near double digit growth in REVPAR (Revenue Per Available Room–an industry benchmark indicator). Propelled by major tourist attractions, beaches, convention centers, trade shows and new-age businesses, Los Angeles and San Diego witnessed an uptrend in demand. Meanwhile, nestled between the populous L.A. And the vastness of San Diego, the Inland Valley, which saw the sharpest decline during the recession, had somehow managed to come back faster than its geographical counterpart, Orange county.
Beyond the morning mist, where the sun shines bright and warm, is the gateway to this Valley – Temecula. Buoyed by its major attractions that include over 40 wineries, classy Golf Courses, sporting venues, Promenade Mall, local Corporations, Old Town and The Pechanga Casino’s entertainment, Temecula buried the recessionary numbers in its history.
What also benefited the hotel industry in this region is the limited supply. With just a handful of newly constructed supply, Inland Valley hotels almost had a free run at the inflow of travelers. With year-over-year occupancy growth in every month this year, Temecula’s hotels have seen a revival in occupied rooms with activities such as summer nights concerts, weddings and sporting events not only filling up weekends but also some of the weekdays. It’s ideal location between L.A. And San Diego makes it a close-to-home vacation hotspot with loads to offer to every type of tourist. It’s next challenge, is the ADR (Average Daily Rate) which is still struggling below the $100 mark.
While the nation’s average in October reported increases in all three key performance metrics, according to data from www.str.com (Smith Travel Research), with occupancy rising 2.9 percent to 63.1 percent, average daily rate up 3.9 percent to $104.99 and revenue per available room up 7.0 percent to US$66.20, Temecula fared quite well with 65.4% Occupancy, $95.64 ADR and $62.52 RevPar for the same month. Evidently, there is ground to gain for the city to beat the nation’s average in rate and RevPar.
However, things do look bright for 2012 despite the current economic and financial climate. Occupancy will continue to surge according to TravelClick, STR and other leading analysts whereas ADR will see moderate gains. The limited supply
scenario will continue well into 2012 as bargain acquisitions will attract smart investors over the prospect of new construction. Temecula’s hotels are gearing up for another exciting year as the city experiences business development, community expansion, global recognition and sunny skies. So far, Temecula has found the right blend with its ‘Old Traditions and New Opportunities’.

If you had the chance to envision the future of Jefferson Avenue located in Temecula, what would it look like? Would it consist of multiple story professional offices, modern housing or art galleries? How about the
importance of walkability or mass transit? If you were asked how to revitalize this aging commercial area, would you have some ideas? This is exactly the task at hand for various stakeholders interested in the Jefferson Avenue Study Area.
Led by the Jefferson Corridor Ad Hock Subcommittee Mayor Ron Roberts and Council Member Jeff Comerchero, the City of Temecula is embarking on envisioning the future renewal of this eclectic 560 acre area. The Jefferson Avenue area has the potential to capitalize on its visual window from I-15, its location next to Murrieta Creek along with the backdrop of the lush hillside to the west. “It is with an eye towards the future that the City of Temecula is developing a new, community based, long-term visioning process designed to ensure and promote livability, mobility, sustainability and prosperity for the Jefferson Avenue” states Mayor Ron Roberts.
The Jefferson Avenue Study Area, which is currently characterized by a mix of light industrial, office and strip commercial centers, most of which was constructed under old County zoning standards, is located immediately north of the Old Town area in Temecula. Many long time residents of Temecula and the surrounding areas likely remember the “good ol’ days” of Jefferson Avenue, when businesses along this stretch of road were vibrant and thriving. After all, Jefferson Avenue was once a part of Old Highway 395, and this area was the city’s first true commercial core, complete with a grocery store, barber shop and other establishments. It was one of the only places where residents could shop for every day goods and services. But a lot has changed since the “good ol’ days.” The old Stater Brother’s grocery store has since closed shop, and development and growth began to occur elsewhere in the city.
Over the past 20 years, the Jefferson Avenue Study Area has been long over-looked, as other areas of the City, such as the Promenade Mall and Old Town, have since taken the limelight. But the time has come for the Jefferson Avenue Study Area to shine again. It is time for a new beginning. Temecula City Council Member Jeff Comerchero encourages the public to get involved and think of the Jefferson Corridor as a blank slate. “The public visioning workshops will be critical to studying the area’s opportunities and developing strategic policies that promote economic development, enhance property values and contribute to the long term health of our local economy” says Comerchero.
The City held its first couple Jefferson Avenue Study Area Visioning Workshops this past October and December to get feedback from the community on their future vision for the area. As part of the visioning exercise, participants were asked, “How do you imagine this area’s look and feel, it’s character, and It’s Identity over the next 15-30 years?” And these will not be the only questions asked. There are four more visioning workshops that will take place over the next 9 months, to fully develop the future vision. These future workshops will seek community feedback on topics such as urban design, land use, alternative transportation opportunities and “placemaking,” or strategies that will create a defined sense-of-place and identity for the area. This community-identified vision will paint a clear picture of where the community would like to go in the future, and will set the stage for the development of a future Specific Plan. The Specific Plan will be the tool used to bring the community identified vision to fruition, and will present exciting opportunities to spur the area’s future revitalization.
For more information on Jefferson Avenue and how you can get involved, contact Katie Innes, City of Temecula at (951) 506-5198 or visit www.cityoftemecula.org.

As a business owner and family member, planning for retirement is probably a top priority for you. Do you know how much money you need to retire? Are you concerned that you may outlive your money?
Are you concerned about what a chronic health care need could have on your family and finances? Your retirement is the dream for you and your family’s future. Proper planning and protection of that dream are crucial to help make it a reality.
Preserve you and your family’s choices A long-term care insurance policy can help protect and preserve income and assets you have worked so hard to accumulate by providing benefits to cover the costs of a wide spectrum of long term care services. Long-term care is substantial assistance from another individual to perform 2 or more activities of daily living (ADLs) such as: Bathing, Eating, Dressing, Toileting, Transferring, and Continence or substantial supervision due to a severe cognitive impairment such as Alzheimer’s disease.
With the advances in home care services, many people needing long-term care may actually be able to stay at home, with or near families, and still get the professional care they need. Long-term care insurance allows your family to be there to love you, instead of worrying about the financial, emotional and physical toll of providing care for you. Whether at home, in an adult day care center or a residential care facility, you and your family can maintain control of your options and your lifestyle.
Protect your retirement planAs the population ages and Americans are living longer than ever before, the need for long-term care services has emerged as an important element to a comprehensive retirement plan. Do you have enough in your retirement to pay for the high cost of long-term care services? Without a proper long-term care plan in place, your assets and income can be notably depleted. This could leave you and your family in a difficult financial situation. You may want to think about transferring some of the financial risk. With long-term care insurance, you will have peace of mind, knowing that you have taken control to help protect your hard earned retirement assets.
Begin your plan nowThe sooner you begin your long-term care planning, the better. The cost of waiting can be expensive in several ways. Generally the younger you are when you purchase long-term care insurance, the lower the premiums will cost. As you age, typically premiums are higher if you purchase an equivalent
policy and you may qualify for a lesser class rating due to health changes. You could pay thousands more in premium over the life of the policy, just by waiting a few years to purchase. Or, you may not be able to qualify for coverage at all. By waiting you may not have coverage in place when you need it most.
With long life comes long-term planning. Make a plan for you and your family today. For more information on long-term care insurance, please contact Jean Diaz Agent, New York Life Insurance Company CA license #OH40614 at 760-798-9433

The Temecula Valley Chamber of Commerce announces its regional legislators’ vote record on the most important state issues tracked by the Chamber in 2011. “In collaboration with our regional
advocacy coalition, the Southwest California Legislative Council, we worked closely with our area legislators to make sure the business voice was represented at the statewide level of government,” stated Alice Sullivan, CEO of the Temecula Valley Chamber. “It is important that we hold our legislators accountable to the issues impacting our regional business community. We want to thank all of our legislators for voting with the Temecula business community 100% of the time in 2011. Supporting what is best for our local economy was priority number one for each of them,” continued Sullivan.
The Chamber lobbied during the 2011 legislative year for our legislators to oppose 20 legislative proposals and support 10 legislative proposals. To reach the “Percentage FOR pro-jobs legislation,” the Chamber tallied the number of times our legislator’s final votes were with the Chamber’s position on each proposal and divided that total by the total number of proposals in which each legislator voted. A legislative proposal is not figured into the vote record percentage if a legislator, for whatever reason, did not vote or if the proposal failed before the legislator had an opportunity to vote. The Governor’s final decision on whether or not the legislative proposal becomes law is also included.
