local YOUR 10 BEST ADULT LITERACY We will be celebrating our 3rd Annual Celebration for Success on June 1st. At this event we will celebrate with over 200 learners and their support networks (family, friends, volunteers and learning facilitator) lifelong learning in our community and the learning achievements they made over the past year. CELEBRATING SUCCESS Workplace English evening-classes provide learners with English to help them improve language skills to increase their on-the- job performance, help them find a job or move up a position in their current job. WORKPLACE ENGLISH ELL FAMILY ENGLISH MELISSA HUNT 1 2 3 •Submit YOUR 10 BEST to fred.rinne@ sunmedia.ca, photos optional but welcome, and be eligible for some great prizes from the DHT • Learn basic to advanced English in class for 25 hours a week for only $20/day! ESL instruction for: •Everyday, business, work and travel •Further study and academic preparation. ESL FULL TIME PROGRAM FAMILY LITERACY In 2011, the Council granted out over $15,000 to community organizations, such as Odyssey House, Society for Support to Pregnant and Parenting Teens and Catholic Family Services, which provide learning programs to address community issues. GRANTS TO MEMBER ORGANIZATIONS We had close to 20 volunteer lawyers and community financial specialists generously donate their time and expertise to provide legal and financial information to over 250 participants. 5 In 2011, 20 volunteer tutors helped over 25 adult learners improve their basic literacy, English language learning, basic computers, GED prep and essential skills. READING NETWORK WORKPLACE ESSENTIAL SKILLS TRAINING PROGRAM Our Family English day-time classes help newcomers to Grande Prairie learn everyday English while their preschool-aged children learn English through play and song in the childcare room. A regular feature of the DHT is YOUR 10 BEST, and we encourage you to be a part of it. This is a really good example of how community organizations, clubs, non-profits can showcase themselves to the community and tell us what they are doing and how to get involved. Today, Melissa Hunt, executive director of the Council for Lifelong Learning sends along her organization’s 10 Best. Nice job.
