This year, the Teach Children to Save program celebrates its 15th anniversary. Save Day partners banks with students for lessons on the importance of saving.

This year, the ABAEF has launced its “Race to Save” campaign. The Foundation is challenging banks to open 15,000 children’s savings accounts in 2011 in honor of the 15th anniversary of Teach Children to Save. Achieving this challenge will mean more kids reaping the financial and psychological benefits

of saving. It will mean an indus-try united in not only educating young people, but helping turn that education into action. To-gether we can ensure that every child has access to a savings ac-count and the freedom to dream.

The TBA is encouraging every bank in the state to accept this challenge and help the indus-try achieve its goal. You will find more infor-mation about “Race to Save” in the ABAEF’s

LeadershipLuncheonsThe Young Bankers Division is sponsoring eight Leadership Luncheons across the state—one for each division. Four luncheons will be held in February, with the other four are scheduled for March. Traditionally, the luncheons provide bankers with an opportunity to network and learn about upcoming Young Bankers Division programs.

This year, each luncheon features a member of the General Assembly as guest speaker. These legislators will provide an update on activities at the Capitol. In addition, bankers are able to educate their legislator about our industry and the important role banks play in building strong communities.

The ABA Education Foundation established Teach Children to Save Day to spotlight the im-portance of teaching our nation’s youth about saving money. The event occurs every April when bankers make presentations to students in grades K – 12 about budgeting, saving, recog-nizing needs and wants, and how interest makes money grow.

Do your part and help your community by visiting a classroom, church group, or youth group and sharing savings lessons.

You can use your unique set of skills to help address a serious problem in our nation, the lack of financial literacy. Plus, it’s fun! It’s an opportunity to reach out to your communities and give young people the tools and inspiration for a successful financial future.

Be sure to register your participation with ABA at http://www.aba.com/ABAEF/TCTSReg-istration.htm. Banks that sign up are listed on ABA’s official TCTS Honor Roll, updated weekly online. After signing up, you’ll have access to exclusive downloadable resource ma-terials to use in conjunction with your Save Day activities. The foundation has a host of free re-sources available to bankers.

When you register your Teach Children to Save participation online you’ll get access to the TCTS Tools. TCTS registrants will receive free TCTS Tools, which include save-the-date announcements that can be customized with your bank’s logo and contact information, get-

ting-started tips and participation certificates for bankers and students.

The ABAEF has de-veloped new 15th Anni-versary Teach Children to Save Kits. The new Teach Children to Save Resource Kit makes providing quality sav-

ings education more affordable and easier than ever. Be fully prepared and make the most of classroom time with step-by-step lesson plans and classroom activities, plus leave-behind ma-terials for teachers.

The ABAEF is host-ing free webinars for both new and return-ing TCTS participants. Whether this is your first year to participate or your fifth year, the

webinars will help you prepare for your Save Day events.

Online training for newcomers and TCTS veterans will cover planning and promoting

your event, making the most of the free TCTS tools and the new 15th anniversary kit, and best practices. Participation is free, but registration is required.

Two March webinars remain available. To find dates and times for the webinars and to register, visit http://www.aba.com/ABAEF/TCTSRegistration.htm.

Why Should My Bank Participate?

TCTS is an extraordinary opportunity to shed positive light on what real banking means for your customers, your community and the com-ing generation. Together bankers can redefine real banking for the next generation.

Let us show our commitment not only as banks, but as a state with 100 percent participa-tion in this year’s program. This is more than fulfilling an obligation; it’s an investment in our state, our industry, and our nation’s future.
