NATIONAL RANKINGS

 BY THE NUMBERS

» With a win over Auburn last week, Tennessee secured its 21st 20-win season in pro-gram history and the 10th of Coach Patrick’s tenure.

15» Tennessee came in at No. 15 in this week’s NCAA RPI rankings - the highest the Lady Vols have been all season.

2

TENNESSEE IN THE RANKINGS¢ For the third consecutive season, Tennessee

opened its campaign in the national rankings, coming in at No. 15 in the AVCA Preseason Poll. The preseason ranking was the ninth in program history for UT, who concluded 2011 rated as No. 19.¢ On Aug. 27, the Lady Vols moved up one position

to No. 14 in the nation following wins over Cincinnati and then-No. 10 Iowa State. UT fell down two notches to No. 16 after posting a 2-1 mark at the Shocker Volleyball Classic.¢ The Big Orange went 3-0 at Maryland’s Spring-

Hill Suites Invitational with three sweeps, but dropped one spot to No. 17 in the AVCA Poll on Sept. 10.¢ After opening their SEC slate 2-3, the Lady Vols

dropped out of the top 25 on Oct. 1 for the first time in 17 polling periods and since September 2011.¢ The 16-week stretch was the fourth longest in

school history. UT had two stretches of 19-straight weeks (2009-11; 1982-84) and one stretch of 17 con-secutive weeks (2004-05) in the poll.¢ After entering the rankings at No. 24 on Nov. 30,

2009, the Lady Vols spent 19 consecutive polling pe-riods in the Top 25, until falling out for a four-week span last season. ¢ 12 wins in their last 13 matches would not boost

the Lady Vols back into the polls, but they are receiv-ing votes for the eighth straight week (Nov. 19).

» With two more wins, the 2012 senior class will be-come the first four-year group since 1984 to win 100 career matches.

LADY VOL NOTESCIKRA HONORED BY SEC¢ One week after junior libero Ellen Mullins gar-

nered SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors, senior right side hitter Leslie Cikra was named the SEC’s Offensive Player of the Week for her perfor-mances against Auburn and LSU.¢ The seventh weekly honor of the season for Ten-

nessee, Cikra led the squad with a 4.62 kills per set average and hit a scorching .408 for the week, com-mitting just eight errors on 71 swings.¢ She put down half of her 40 swings against Au-

burn, tying a career high with 20 kills, and hit .425. On Sunday, she led the way for the Big Orange once again with 17 kills and a .387 attacking clip.¢ The Chagrin Falls, Ohio, native currently ranks

17th in the SEC in hitting percentage (.281) and has UT ranked third in the category as a team (.251).

20-WIN SEASON¢ With a five-set win over Auburn last Friday (11/16),

Tennessee secured its fifth consecutive and 21st 20-win season in program history.¢ It’s the 10th time during the Coach Patrick era that

the Lady Vols have reached the 20-win plateau. ¢ Over the weekend, Tennessee also ensured its

fourth consecutive and 10th overall season with sin-gle-digit losses. It’s the seventh time the Big Orange has achieved that feat during Coach Patrick’s 16-year tenure.

THE 2012 SENIOR CLASS¢ The talented Tennessee senior class of Cikra, Jas-

mine Brown, DeeDee Harrison and Kayla Jeter were honored prior to Sunday’s match against LSU.¢ Over the past four years, this group has compiled

98 wins. With two more victories, this class would be the first four-year class since 1984 to win 100 matches in their careers. Until the mid-1980’s, UT played many more matches in a season than today – making the current potential achievement much more impressive. The 1984 squad played 46 matches. ¢ This class has amassed a 98-25 record over the

past four seasons for a winning percentage of .796 with two regular season matches to go. In the 39-year history of the program, that is the highest winning percentage of any four-year class. ¢ The class from 2008-11 posted 99 wins and 29 loss-

es for the second-highest winning percentage (.773). Prior to that, the class from 2002-05 – which made back to back Sweet 16 appearances – had the highest with a 99-32 record or .755 winning percentage.¢ Ensuring themselves of a single-digit loss sea-

son, these Lady Vols also become the first four-year class in program history to never lose more than nine matches in a season.¢ The 2012 senior class has made the NCAA Tour-

nament every season and consists of three AVCA All-American selections.

FABULOUS IN FIVE¢ With its comeback five-set win against Auburn

last week, UT has now played a league-high 10 five-

setters through 27 matches this season and holds an impressive 8-2 record in those matchups.¢ The Lady Vols’ eight wins in five is a new program

record. In addition, this year’s team has actually won more five-setters than past UT squads have played in 28 of the last 33 seasons.¢ The 10 five-set matches also ties for the most in

program history with the 1991 campaign.¢ The five-set win at LSU (Oct. 10) was the Lady Vols’

third straight win in five, marking just the second time in program history the team has won back to back to back five-setters. UT defeated South Carolina, Auburn and Kentucky in consecutive five-setters in 2008.¢ Tennessee fought back from a two-set deficit

against Georgia (Oct. 7) earlier this season. It was the 16th win after being down 0-2 in school history. From 1997 to 2008, the team was only able to accomplish the feat once. Since 2009, the Lady Vols have won one match in that fashion each season.¢ UT was up 2-0 in both its five-set losses this season.

FINISHING STRONG¢ As the postseason approaches, the Lady Vols

have heated up – winning 12 of their last 13 matches. UT finished October with a near-perfect 6-1 record and is 6-0 coming into the last week of the regular season.¢ Dating back five seasons through the 2008 cam-

paign, the Lady Vols are an impressive 68-12 (.850) in the months of October and November and have used the two crucial months to help propel themselves into four consecutive NCAA Tournaments.

campaign playing in Thompson-Boling Arena on the banks of the Tennessee River.¢ The Big Orange has brought with it the tradition

of home-court dominance that is displayed in Stokely, where it amassed an impressive 98-34 (.742) record following a multi-million dollar renovation that was completed prior to the 1998 season.¢ Since beginning play in the facility full-time in

2008, the Lady Vols are 58-11 (.840) in home matches, including an 8-3 mark this season.

1,000-1,000 CLUB¢ With her first dig of the second set at Texas A&M

(10/19), Robinson became the fifth Lady Vol in program history to eclipse the 1,000-mark in career kills and digs.¢ Robinson, who notched her 1,000th career kill in

a five-set win at LSU (10/10) earlier this season, joins Tennessee greats Nikki Fowler, Kristy Dobson, Stepha-nie Ehlers and Sonja Thomas in the exclusive group.¢ Just a junior, Robinson reached the 1,000/1,000

mark in both categories in only 79 matches. Below is a chart of the five club members:

ONE FOR THE AGES¢ Tennessee’s victory at then-No. 13 Florida (11/4)

certainly made its mark in the Lady Vol record books. In the 54-match rivalry, it was the closest match ever played between the two sides. The margin of victory in each set was an average of 3.6 points, the smallest in series history.¢ The Lady Vols have now played nine five-set

matches vs. Florida all-time and have only lost two of them – the last coming in 1987.¢ Along with the two wins last season, Tennessee

has now won three consecutive matches against the Gators, marking the team’s first three-match winning streak since the Lady Vols beat Florida four times in a row from 1988-90.¢ UT snapped a 21-match home regular season winning

streak for the Gators. Tennessee was also the last team to beat UF at home, with a five-set win on Oct. 20, 2011.¢ Tennessee posted a season-high 19 blocks – the

most for the Lady Vols since last season’s NCAA Tour-nament matchup against Ohio State (20). It also was

TENNESSEE IN THE RPI¢ The initial NCAA Division I Volleyball RPI of the

2012 campaign was released last month with the Lady Vols coming in at No. 27 in the nation.¢ Winners of 12 of their past 13, the Lady Vols have

steadily moved up the RPI rankings to their highest spot of the season this week, coming in at No. 15.¢ 11 of UT’s 21 wins have come against top 80 RPI

teams: Florida (14), Texas A&M (18), Iowa State (23), Arkansas (27), Colorado State (34), Wichita State (44), Mizzou (50), Auburn (60), Georgia (71) and twice against LSU (79).¢ In addition, five of the Big Orange’s six losses have

come against top 30 RPI squads: Florida State (9), BYU (13), twice vs. Kentucky (24) and Arkansas (27). ¢ The SEC has five teams in the top 30 and seven

squads in the top 60 of the RPI rankings: Florida (14), Tennessee (15), Texas A&M (18), Kentucky (24), Arkan-sas (27), Missouri (50) and Auburn (60).

TENNESSEE vs. THE TOP 25¢ Through 27 matches, the Lady Vols have faced

four opponents ranked in the top 25 and four that were receiving votes in the poll.¢ UT is 3-1 against teams in the top 25 this season

with wins over then-No. 10 Iowa State, then-No. 24 Colorado State and then-No. 13 Florida. The Big Or-ange’s ranked loss was against then-No. 12 Florida State in the season opener. UT also lost to a BYU squad that is now ranked 16th in the weekly poll.¢ The Lady Vols’ wins over Iowa State and Colorado

State are the only wins over non-conference opponents ranked in the top 25 for SEC teams this season.¢ Tennessee went 4-2 in matches against ranked op-

ponents in 2011, with a pair of wins over Florida (No. 6 & No. 13), a victory over No. 16 Kentucky and a win against No. 21 Dayton. ¢ En route to its NCAA Regional Final appearance, the

Big Orange defeated a rally-scoring record six ranked teams in 2004. UT shared the SEC title and captured the SEC Tournament title that season.

SUNDAY SUCCESS¢ With the Lady Vols’ straight-set win over LSU

(11/18), UT closed out its regular season Sunday schedule with a perfect 9-0 mark on the day. Three of the nine matches have been five-set victories.¢ Junior outside hitter Kelsey Robinson is averag-

ing 4.45 kills per set and 3.74 digs per game on Sun-days, while Mullins is averaging 4.69 digs per game. Harrison is averaging an impressive 1.44 blocks per set on the final day of the weekend.¢ Tennessee is out-performing its opponent in every

major statistical category on Sundays.

the highest block total for a Florida opponent since UT notched 21 in a five-set win on Oct. 30, 2005.¢ Since Mary Wise took over at Florida in 1991, only six

teams (Long Beach St., LSU, Nebraska, Pacific, USC and Tennessee) have beaten the Gators three times in a row. Tennessee is the first team to do so in the last nine years. Between those six teams there is 11 National Champion-ships – seven of them earned since 1991.

TENNESSEE ON THE ROAD¢ Tennessee is 10-2 in true road matches this season.

UT also has three wins at a neutral location to bring its record away from Knoxville to 13-3 on the campaign.¢ In 2011, the Big Orange finished with a 14-3 re-

cord in matches away from Thompson-Boling Arena, including a 3-1 mark in a neutral location.¢ Dating back through the 2008 campaign, the Lady

Vols are 48-17 (.738) in true road matches. UT is 75-40 (.652) in away matches dating back through the 2004 season.

MULLINS JOINS THE CLUB¢ With her first dig at Florida (11/4), Mullins became

the 13th Lady Vol in program history to surpass the 1,000-career dig mark. With Robinson eclipsing the mark earlier this campaign, Mullins is the second UT player this season to join the club.¢ Mullins is averaging a career-best 4.59 digs per

set this season – a mark that would stand second in the UT single-season record books – and now has 1,107 career digs. She ranks ninth in the category.¢ Over the past 13 matches, the junior is scoop-

ing an impressive 5.47 balls per set. She also has five matches with 25 digs or more, including a 34-dig and 32-dig performance.¢ Below is a chart of UT’s 1,000-dig club:

HARRISON’S BLOCK PARTY¢ An All-American last season and Preseason All-

SEC honoree this year, Harrison leads the Big Orange with 97 blocks on the season.¢ The Nashville native has upped her blocks per set

average to 1.17 this season and currently ranks second in the league in the category. The 6-foot-4 middle blocker has UT ranked second in the conference in blocks. Over the last 13 matches, she is averaging 1.33 blocks per game.¢ With 347 career blocks entering the week, Har-

rison has climbed into Tennessee’s top 10 in career blocks. Her 1.05 career blocks per set currently ranks fifth and her 347 total rejections is good for eighth on the all-time list. She needs 15 more to move into seventh all-time.¢ Below is a chart of UT’s career block leaders:

CAN YOU-T DIG IT?¢ After posting a then-season-high 98 digs at home

against Mizzou (Oct. 5), the Lady Vols bested that mark just five days later when they tied a Tennessee rally scor-ing record with 106 scoops at LSU (Oct. 10). The Lady Vols finished with 90 digs in a five-set win at Florida (11/4) and 87 in a five-set victory against Auburn (11/16).¢ UT has recorded 50 or more digs in 21 of 27

matches this season. ¢ With its recent performances, Tennessee has

climbed to fourth in the SEC in the category with an average of 16.35 digs per set. In SEC matches only, UT ranks second in the category (17.42/Set).

THROWING IT AROUND¢ Over the past 13 matches, Tennessee has dished out

a combined 669 assists for an average of 13.12 per set, in-cluding 555 from sophomore Mary Pollmiller. Pollmiller, who shattered UT’s single season assists records last sea-son, is averaging 10.80 dimes per game over the last 13.¢ With Pollmiller’s ability to spread it around, Tennes-

see has climbed to second place in the SEC with a sea-son average of 13.18 assists per game. In SEC matches only, the Lady Vols rank third at 13.07 helpers per frame.

ROBINSON EARNS MEMBERSHIP¢ Heading into the break at LSU (10/10), Robinson

pounded her 998th and 999th career kills to come-back and win the second set, 26-24. Right after the break, the Bartlett, Ill., native slammed down another - her 1,000th career kill in the Big Orange uniform.¢ With that kill, she became one of just 18 Lady Vols to

eclipse the 1,000-kill plateau. She enters this weekend in 14th place all-time with 1,157 kills.¢ Below is a chart of UT’s 1,000-kill club:

20/20 VISION¢ Against South Carolina (9/23), Robinson recorded

21 kills and 22 digs, marking her third 20/20 match of the season and the fifth of her career. While it’s not an of-ficial stat, it’s certainly a rare feat in the UT record books.¢ Since 2001, only six different players have reached

the 20 mark in two statistical categories in a single match on just 14 occasions.¢ Below is a chart of UT’s 14 20/20 matches since 2001:

POLLMILLER PASSES 2,000¢ With her 36th assist at home vs. Arkansas (9/21),

Pollmiller became the seventh player in Tennessee history to cross the 2,000-assist mark for her career.¢ As a freshman, she set UT single season rally scoring

records in assists (1,480) and assists per set (11.94). She led all NCAA freshmen in assists per set, while ranking fourth in the nation and first in the SEC.¢ Below is a chart of Tennessee’s 2,000-assist chart:

SCOUTING THE AGGIES¢ SEC West Champion Texas A&M comes into

Wednesday night’s match with a 22-5 overall record and the same 14-4 conference mark as the Lady Vols.¢ A&M and the Lady Vols are the two hottest teams in the

SEC right now, having both won seven-consecutive matches. ¢ The Aggies, who are also receiving votes in the

national rankings, sit just three places behind UT in the most recent RPI at No. 18.¢ The Aggies are one of the premier offensive teams

in the conference, leading the league in assists per set (13.56) and kills per set (14.54). Nationally, they rank 14th and 12th in those categories, respectively.¢ Defensively, Texas A&M also leads the league in

opponent hitting percentage – holding their oppo-nents to a .167 attacking clip. The Aggies sit in third place in the SEC in digs per set (16.64).¢ Leading A&M on the offensive side is 6-foot-4 se-

nior hitter Alisia Kastmo. An All-Big 12 honoree last season, she has 344 kills on the season for an average of 3.66 per set – a mark that ranks seventh in the SEC. Kastmo also leads the team and ranks fourth in the conference with 0.28 aces per frame.¢ Defensively, the Aggies are led at the net by se-

nior middle blocker Lindsey Miller. She ranks sixth in the SEC with 1.05 blocks per set. Miller is also a major offensive contributor, ranking third on the team in kills and leading the way with a .337 attacking clip. ¢ Laurie Corbelli is in her 20th season with Texas

A&M and has guided the Aggies to NCAA Tournament appearances in 15 of the last 19 seasons, including a second round appearance last year. She holds a re-cord of 421-199 at A&M.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS¢ After posting a 4-5 record through non-confer-

ence play, Mississippi State has lost 18 consecutive SEC matches to bring its overall record to 4-23 and its league mark to 0-18 entering the week. 14 of the 18 losses have been in straight sets.¢ However, the lone strength of the Mississippi

State squad has been its defensive back row play. The Bulldogs currently rank fifth in the league – just one spot behind UT – in digs per set (16.32).¢ Leading the defensive effort is freshman standout

Roxanne McVey. The libero currently leads the SEC with 524 total digs this season for an impressive aver-age of 5.63 per set. She’s the only player in the confer-ence averaging above 5.0 digs per game.¢ McVey, who just broke the program’s single-sea-

son dig record, currently ranks 17th in the nation and has MSU ranked 80th in the category nationally. She has three of the four highest single-match dig totals in the SEC this season, including a 50-dig effort vs. LSU.¢ Offensively, the Bulldogs are led by freshman out-
