WHAT SHAPES OF SLEEPING BAGS ARE THERE?

The mummy bag is the most common form, as it presents a good com -promise between insulation, pack size and weight. Mummy bags lay close tothe body, which is the best way of allowing the insulation material to take inand store the body's heat.(ANTARCTICA, DIAMOND DREAM, POUNDER, ENDURION, MISTY MORNING,SOUTHERN CROSS, GROW UP STAR, GROW UP WOLF)

Oval sleeping bags provide more freedom of movement for the upper body.(SUNDOWNER, SKYRANGER, ONE KILO BAG)

In summer temperatures, rectangular sleeping bags are the most practical.They are roomy and comfortable, and can be unzipped all the way aroundand used as a quilt. (BEAUTIFUL SOUTH)

WHAT ARE THE FINISHING TOUCHES TO OURINSULATION SYSTEMS?

A zip baffle stops the cold getting in via the zip.

This baffle is double-thickness at the ends.

The inner edge of the hood also benefits from an extra cover.

HOW ARE OUR DOWN SLEEPING BAGSCONSTRUCTED?

We use trapezoid chambers because this is the best way of encouraging thedown to fluff up, which is the state in which it insulates the best. The chambersalso prevent thermal bridges from forming.

We use vertical fill chambers around the chest area (with the exception of thePOUNDER) to prevent the down gathering in certain places.

The inside of our sleeping bags is smaller than the outside to ensure that theinsulation is not crushed, which would create thermal bridges.

HOW WARM SHOULD YOUR SLEEPING BAG BE?

All of our sleeping bags have extra insulation (THERMOZONE TECHNOLOGY)at cold-sensitive parts of the body (head, feet, torso) providing you with highlyeffective protection from the cold.Our sleeping bags are tested according to EN 13537 and their performancerating marked on a scale on the product itself. Children's sleeping bags arenot tested in this way.Four temperatures are measured, which are the boundaries of the ranges ratedaccording to the EU norm. You should use the comfort rating as a guide whenchoosing your sleeping bag. This is the range of temperatures within which theaverage man or woman can sleep comfortably: at higher temperatures youare likely to be too warm in the sleeping bag, and at lower temperatures youwill feel the cold. The sleeping bag is not able to protect you on its own in thetransition range, so you will need to use extra layers of clothing too. If thetemperature hits the risk range, the insulation is no longer enough and riskingdamage to your health and hypothermia.OUR TIP: Heat and cold sensitivity are always subjective. The information weprovide is correct according to the EU norm, but if you tend to feel the coldthen you should use a model warmer than recommended.

Down sleeping bags have an unbeatable warmth-to-weightratio. However, they are not so effective when damp. With thisin mind, we recommend them for trips with plenty of oppor -tunity to air or dry them. The advanced design of trapezoidand vertical fill chambers (with additional sidewall chambers)allow our 90/10 high-performance down mixture to achieveits full loft potential (700 cuin).We source our down from a trusted partner, guaranteeingthat it does not come from live plucking or geesekept for foie gras. Synthetic-fibre sleeping bags don't need much care and are there -fore ideal if you don't have a chance to wash or air your sleeping

is made from spiral fibres (for greater loft) and microfibres(as they store heat particularly well). Certain models also

contain metallic particles to improve insulation.

Our sleeping bag for the most extreme conditions: the ANTARCTICA.The name says it all. With a Comfort Temperature rating of -25 C and anExtreme Temperature rating of -60 C, it is the ideal so lution for winterexpeditions. The high performance 90/10 goose down with a loft of700+ cuin provides superb insulation performance. To pro tect the downfrom moisture, we opted for an extremely water-repellent and wind-resistant nylon shell fabric.

The construction combines vertical and trapezoid fill chambers withadditional sidewall chambers for optimum heat distribution. We deter -mine the height of the chambers by working out how much room thedown needs to fully fluff up, thus providing the best possible insulation.Additional synthetic fibrefill has been built into provide more warmth atcold-sensitive parts of the body (e.g. the hood, torso and footbox), whilea thermal collar and adjustable hood prevent cold ingress. FILLING

90/10 GREY GOOSE DOWN, 700+ cuin: extremely warm and lightweight high-per for mance down consisting of 90 % grey goose down and 10 % filler feathers.At more than 700 cuin, the down fill power provides the best possible in su -lation. The down fill contains non-textile parts of animal origin.

90/10 WHITE DUCK DOWN, 700 cuin: extremely warm and lightweight high-perfor mance down made from at least 90 % white duck down. We combinethe ex ceptionally high fill power of 700 cuin with extremely lightweight shellfabrics for incredible results. The down fill contains non-textile parts of animalorigin.

SYNTHETIC FIBREFILL INSULATION

MICROGUARD: a combination of two different types of fibre spiral fibres provide permanent loft and fine microfibres retain lots and lots ofheat. The synthetic fibrefill insulation maintains a good level of performanceeven when damp, meaning that these sleeping bags are ideal for use in autumn,whilst trekking in Scandinavia and on canoe trips. If the sleeping bag remainsdamp for several days, it is important to air it thoroughly afterwards or machinewash it.

MICROGUARD SILVER: has a third layer of synthetic insulationwith metallic particles next to the body. These particles reflect a proportion ofyour body heat back towards you, warming the sleeping bag up faster andensuring it stays warm for longer.

MATS

AIR CORE 16/13: this open-cell foam is good insulation. It catches a lot ofwarm air and is also great padding. We use this foam in two strengths: inultra light mats the surface density is 13 kg/m3 and in comfy four-seasonmats 16kg/m3.

ANTISLIP POLYESTER 75D: soft, slightly brushed, non-slip outer material for mats.

CORE HOLES: the horizontal holes in the foam core of our WOLFMATS reducethe weight by 20 % without impacting on the insulation performance.

NON SLIP 75D: hard-wearing material with non-slip coating for the undersides of mats.

OUTER MATERIAL

SOFTTOUCH POLYESTER 50D: a soft, robust and breathable fabric made of polyesterand taffeta which we use for the shell fabric of our sleeping bags.

SOFTTOUCH RIPSTOP 15D / SOFTTOUCH RIPSTOP 30D: two fabrics used for sleeping bagshell tightly woven and highly breathable. Both fabrics are very light, althoughthe 29.7 g/m2 of the 15D is somewhat lighter than the 30D at 49.5 g/m2. How -ever the 30D has the benefit of being more hard-wearing.

STORMLOCK HYPROOF AIRGRID 2L: we use this exceptionally water-repellent andwindproof nylon fabric on our ANTARTICA down sleeping bag for extremeconditions in order to protect the down from condensation on the tent walls.

LINING

MOISTURE CONTROL 30D: extremely lightweight, silky sleeping bag lining. The poly -amide fabric is made from 30 denier yarn. Specially equipped to absorb moistureparticularly well and dry extremely quickly.

SOFTTOUCH 20D / 40D / 55D: breathable and tightly woven fabrics made of poly -ester and taffeta. We use these for the linings of our sleeping bags. They allhave different weights, with the 20D being the lightest at just 38.2 g/m2.

SOFTTOUCH PONGEE 50D / 75D: made of up to 100 % polyester, this fabric is a skin-friendly and quick-drying alternative to cotton and POLYCOTTON. 50D is thelighter version.
