encouraged to meet privately with course faculty to discuss the provisions of those accommodations as early in the

semester as possible. To qualify for accommodation assistance, students must first register to use the disability

resources in DR, Science Center Rm. 2206, 812-464-1961 http://www.usi.edu/disabilities. To help ensure that

accommodations will be available when needed, students are encouraged to meet with course faculty at least 7 days

prior to the actual need for the accommodation.

ACADEMIC DISHONESTY: Academic dishonesty such as plagiarism, cheating, etc. WILL NOT be tolerated. Any student found violating this rule of honesty risks a grade of “0” for the assignment/test (at the very least) and possible expulsion from the class. Please consult the student handbook for specifics in this area. INCOMPLETE GRADES: Students will be given a grade of “I” (incomplete) at the end of the semester only in the event of extreme hardship for circumstances that arise near the end of the term. A grade of “I” is not to be used to offset poor time management skills that result in unfinished/unacceptable work . PERFORMANCE EVALUATION: Your course activities for each week are described on Blackboard. After logging in, click on the course name in the upper right hand corner. Then, click on the week you need: Week 1, Week 2, etc., and you will get to the assignment page for that week. Assignments include: 1. 3. Application Exercises (3 x 5 points = 15 points) The Application Exercises are designed to give hands-on practice in the use of Access or Excel in data analysis and problem solving situations that arise in the business world.

4. Exams (2 x 200 points = 400 points) There will be 2 exams—a midterm exam and a final exam, each worth 200 points. Exams consist of 100 multiple

choice questions. Final exam is not comprehensive. As detailed below, Distance Education students who attend USI may take their exam with me or at the Distance

Education Center. Guest students (attending universities other than USI) take exams with their DE-approved proctors.

Dr. Foroughi will proctor exams on the following dates/times: Midterm Exam: Thursday, February 25, 4-6 p.m. Location BE0005 Final Exam: Wednesday, May 4, 4-6 p.m. Location TBA

If you cannot make the above assigned exam time(s)… You have the option of taking exams at set times at the Distance Education Center (FA 041):

Reservations for DEC-proctored sessions must be made in advance of test dates. Contact the DEC to make a reservation: 812-465-1010 812-465-1010, or 464-1818.

Are you a Guest-Student? (attending college and university other than USI, and USI students living outside the Evansville community). You must arrange for your respective DE-approved exam proctors and test sites at least one week prior to the first exam. The Exam Proctor Information Form, which guest-students must complete and submit to USI’s Distance Education Office, is available at the USI Distance Education Office, 812-465-7182 812-465-7182 , or by fax, 812-465-7131. For most courses, exams are faxed to the proctor 1-7 days before the exam is to be taken.

5. Discussion Board Forums (21 x 5 points = 105 points): You will participate in weekly Discussion Board forums on Blackboard. The goal of the discussion forum is a rich, critical discussion of an issue that pertains to the assignment.

You have been divided into discussion groups and assigned a group number. The members of each group will interact with each other in their group’s discussion area during the course.

Each Discussion Board assignment will involve completion of the following tasks: a. View the assigned video/read the assigned case for the week. b. Click on your group’s link, choosing the correct week, and click until you reach the Thread Detail page. c. Reply to the link at the bottom of the Thread Detail page to post your answers. c. Post your response to another student’s posting on this topic by replying to the student’s posting.

Each week, you can earn up to 5 points for each Discussion Board assignment, as follows:

Up to 3 points for your response to questions about videos/case study. Up to 2 points for your response to posting(s) by other student(s).

The following guidelines will be used for grading Discussion Board participation:

You should provide complete answers to each question regarding the content of the video or case study in question, including your insights into the issue being discussed, and support your statements with facts from the case study, video, or from your own experience.

Spelling and grammar will be evaluated as part of the grade on these and all other written assignments in this course. Use only complete, grammatically correct sentences.

Provide insightful/useful, courteous feedback to other group members’ assignment postings, which means expressing your own opinion, not just writing “I agree” and “good point.”

Forum Decorum 1. If replying to another student, address that student directly to keep the conversation flowing. 2. Make sure to post in the right space:

Student 1 Post

Student 3 Reply to Student 1

Student 2 Reply to Student 3

Student 2 Post

Hit reply when reading the post to which you want to reply. Posts in the wrong place do not count.

Writing Standards: Writing: Grammar, organization, and clarity of expression are expected and required in each assignment you complete for this course—and they will be taken into account in grading your work. Since all of your interaction with the instructor and with your fellow students will be in written form, clarity and, of course, good manners are essential. Think of this as a good opportunity to concentrate on your written expression, a skill that is demanded and required in the workplace.
