review. The application is reviewed by all departmental faculty members at or above the academic rank to which the individual aspires. This Ad Hoc Committee reviews the documentation and, by ballot, indicates the recommendation for promotion

ACGME Standards • Scholarly activity is a common program

requirement for accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) for all specialties.

• Last year alone across specialties and subspecialties, Residency Review Committees (RRCs) issued 402 citations (6.5% of all citations) for scholarly activity.

ACGME-RRC Criteria

• Within the last academic year at least 50% of the program’s “core faculty” need to have at least one type of scholarly activity from the list of possible activities (e.g. Pub Med IDs for articles, abstracts / posters / presentations at international, national and regional meetings, chapters / books, grants (PI, Co-PI), leadership roles in national medical organizations / editorial board of the peer reviewed journal, leadership role for any didactic training within the sponsoring institution or program.
