Parents working in school

We welcome parents as helpers in our school and encourage anyone who is interested in becoming a helper to contact the school so we can arrange for the necessary PVG checks to take place.

Staff Update

I am delighted to welcome Miss Fern Storer to Kingswells Primary School. She will be teaching P4FS. We are currently recruiting three new PSAs and look forward to them joining the staff later this term.

I hope that all families had a lovely summer break. I am pleased to see our pupils are well rested and full of enthusiasm for the school year ahead.

School uniform

The children look very smart in their new school uniforms and PE kits. Please remember to put your child’s name on all school uniform, jackets and packed lunch boxes. There is a lost property area outside the school gym which parents are welcome to look in, before or after school, if items become misplaced. Please also check the school playground for lost items as the pupils sometimes forget to bring in jumpers and jackets after break or lunchtime.

Our unform supplier for items with the school logo is Work Wear Corporate Solutions, 687 George Street www.wcsscotland.com.

Senior Management Team

Mrs MacIver, Mrs McAra, Mrs McNair and Mrs Cran are happy to support all pupils in the school. We each have greater information and knowledge on particular stages so where possible please contact the member of staff responsible for your child.

Please note that on Fridays Mrs McAra is Head Teacher of the school.

*Mrs Jen Smith and Mrs Hampton work in school everyday and have one day away from their class each week. Mrs MacIver or any of the deputes will assist in any support required with P4 classes in relation to pastoral care as it is more difficult to get hold of the Principal Teachers when they are with their class.

Life and Ethos Assemblies

Every Monday we invite a speaker to come and share information about an experience, job or involvement with a charity with our pupils. This has been very successful over the years and is popular with the pupils. We need some help to find new speakers for this session. Speakers feel it has been a worthwhile experience and are always impressed with our pupils. We only need around 15 minutes of your time. Please contact Mrs McNair or Mrs Cran if you can help.

PTA and Parent Council

Our Parent Council and PTA undertake fantastic work to aid all pupils in the school. New members can bring fresh ideas and these are always welcome. I wish to thank all parents who give up their time to support these groups. The first Parent Council meeting will be held in the

staffroom at 6.30pm on Tuesday 9th October. Please come along if you can.

What is the Parent Council and Parent Teacher Association?

The Parent Council is a group of parents who work with the Senior Management Team to support the school, its staff, and its pupils.

The PC plays a key role in facilitating an exchange of views between home and School and works to enhance the partnership between parents, staff, the Education Authority and the wider community.

The Parent Teacher Association is a sub-committee of the Parent Council.

The prime aim of the PTA is to co-ordinate fundraising and social events for the whole school community that, in turn, supports the school by enhancing the pupil’s educational experiences, either directly or indirectly.

If you want to keep in the loop for what’s going on with Parent Council news & initiatives or the fundraising activities & events organised by the PTA, look out for your Expressions notifications and if you’re on FaceBook, you can follow our page at

School Office Information

Attendance: Please phone the school office to advise if your child is going to be absent from school for any reason or if you need to collect them for an appointment. There is an answer machine and all messages are listened to before registration is taken. Please do not rely on email or class DOJO as a means of communication for absence. Tel:01224740262

Sickness or Diarrohea: In accordance with NHS guidelines we request that you do not send your child to school for 48 hours after being sick or having diarrohea. This rule does not apply if your child has been travel sick.

Communicating with school: Groupcall/Xpressions are a one way form of communication from the school to parents. Occassionally we will advise that we have made the call OPEN and wish you to text back. Please note that this number should not be used as a method of communication with the school as it is not monitored daily and your message could be missed.

V4—Permission: If you have not already returned your completed form for 2018-19 session for your child please do so as soon as possible as this may effect them being able to attend a class outing/walk etc.

Annual Update Information: We will soon be putting home the Annual Updates. Please complete and return as quickly as possible. Please carefully check the email and mobile telephone numbers and ensure all emergency contacts are up to date.

After School Arrangements: Please confirm in the morning with your child any changes to their normal pick up routine. Calls from the office to the class during the day can be disruptive to the child’s education and can also lead to confusion and distress on the child’s part. Obviously we understand that at times arrangements may need to change at the last minute but please be aware that it is not always possible to speak to the class teacher to pass on messages at short notice.

Cashless Catering CHIPs: If you have any queries with regards to your child’s account please contact the accordaberdeen.co.uk, Tel:0300200293 or email [email protected].

Parent Interviews

Our first set of parent interviews will take place on Tuesday 2nd

October, 4-7pm and Wednesday 3

rd October from 4-6.30pm in the school.

With around 480 interviews being conducted over two evenings, it is a logistical exercise to arrange all the appointments. Once times are given it is not possible to arrange any swaps unless you can do this with a parent privately, in which case the school will need to be notified.

Keeping children safe

Some of our younger siblings have been seen climbing over the wall to the P1 lining up area. We are obviously worried about our children falling from height, please make sure that all our children are safe by supervising them safely before and after school.

Loch Insh

Our Primary Seven pupils have already enjoyed their residential visit to Loch Insh this year. They had a week of fun activities, great weather and enjoyed strengthening friendships with their classmates whilst trying lots of new, exciting activities. Well done everyone!

Car Park

Kingswells School car park is for use by school staff only with the exception of anybody holding a disabled badge needing access to the disabled parking bays. Please respect this ruling and park considerately if you are driving your children to school. We will be participating in a whole school project to encourage pupils to use ‘active transport’ to come to school – watch out for more details coming soon. Please keep your children safe by reminding them not to walk through the car park.

Parking around the school - We spend a lot of time taking calls from residents concerned about the parking around the school. Please do not park on double yellow lines or anywhere that obstructs visibility for pedestrians or other drivers. Please be considerate of the residents around the school and do not block driveways.
