Term 1 Week 10 2 April, 2015 We have finally reached the end of Term 1. The students and staff have had a productive term with our new Kindergarten students all settled in, joining the students in Year 1 and 2 for the Easter Hat Parade today. Thank you so much to the parents, grandparents and carers who helped to construct the wonderful Easter Hats but also to those who came along and watched our parade. Congratulations to the students for their fine singing and thank you to Miss Linda Wood for her organisation of this event. Our P&C work tirelessly to raise funds and support the learning programs within the school. This has included the Election Barbecue last weekend and our popular Easter Raffle. Students and families generously donate Easter eggs and bunnies which are sorted and grouped to make a large number of prizes. The students who brought eggs are lucky enough to have an opportunity to win one of the many prizes but they also go in to a special draw for further opportunities to win. The Easter Raffle was drawn today and there were some very happy faces in our school hall. Thank you to all the families who donated eggs and those who bought tickets. Thank you also to the members of the P&C who put all the prizes together. It is a great way to finish the term and we are thrilled that the money raised will go towards purchasing some much needed Maths resources. Sturt takes great pride in rewarding students for good behaviour both in the classroom and in the playground. Today was our Catch A Good Kid (CAGK) reward, an Easter Tabloid, for students who have followed our rules consistently during the last five weeks. Congratulations to all those students and thank you to Miss Susan Brasier for co-ordinating this activity. Our Stage 3 students and staff returned from an excellent excursion to Canberra. The students were wonderful ambassadors for the school and learned a great deal from their visit. Thank you again to the teachers who attended the excursion and to Mrs Rhonda Seaman for her organisation. The excursion also serves as a perfect opportunity for these students to build up camaraderie which will stand them in good stead for the remainder of the year. Please be aware that it is really important that parents take care with parking so that they are not parking in “no parking” or “no stopping” zones. This includes parking really close to the corner for pick up or drop off times. It is a very challenging area to find parking spots at these times however it is impossible to ensure student safety when parking in the wrong zones as it limits visibility and students are subsequently being put at risk. I wish you all a happy Easter and a safe holiday and look forward to students returning on Tuesday 21 st April. EMU In English 1-2 Emu have been listening to stories from different countries

around the world. We watched a video clip from Bali called ‘Gecko’s

Complaint’ read by Miriam Mills and wrote our own narrative about animals. These are some of our stories. We also painted our own Gecko.

Red Dog A long time ago there was a red dog that said “Hi what is this all about?” The monkey said “Go to the tiger and he can find a place for you”. The next day the monkey and the red dog were there and then.... The tiger said “Who is this red dog?” And the monkey said “The red dog’s name is Ellie and then they found a place for her to live.

By Laila Norton Fraser

The Rhinoceros and the Lion. One day there was a rhinoceros and it couldn’t go to sleep so he went to the lion and said “ I can’t go to sleep, can you talk to the fire flies?”

By Joshua Healy

The Komodo Dragon Once there was a komodo dragon and he did not have friends because he had a poisonous bite. He went to red dog. “Red dog will you play with me?” he asked. Then he went to tiger. “Tiger will you play with me?” “Bye Komodo Dragon” he said. He was so sad so he went to sleep. When he woke up he went to find a friend. He asked Monkey and Monkey said “no”. Then he asked Buffalo and he said “no”. Then he went home and said “tomorrow I’ll ask Whale and Rhinoceros,” and he went to sleep. When he woke up he did ask them both and they said “no”. He was very sad. He went home. On the way there he saw something. He went towards it……. To be continued

Tiger and the Fireflies A long time ago there was a tiger. It was a little tiger and it couldn’t sleep because fireflies were blinking their lights on and off all night.

The Komodo Dragon and the Buffalo.

One day in Bai there was a Komodo Dragon and a buffalo. In fact there were a lot of buffalo. It was a herd and they were all good friends!

By Denby Stead.

Leeping Frogs A long time ago a little leaping frog couldn’t get to sleep. “Can you talk to the fireflies and tell them to be quiet?” said Leaping Lizard.
