Term 1 Week 4 19 th February 2019 From the Principal: Message from the Principal I would like to thank every parent who attended the first P & C meeting of the year on Tuesday evening. We welcomed new parents with a total of 16 parents attending in total (approx. 4% of families were represented). P & C meetings are the perfect forum for parents to voice their opinions on school matters. If you wish to know what is happening at school, why not set aside two evenings per term to attend a P & C meeting, which is run by parent volunteers. Our next P & C meeting, which will also be the annual AGM, will be held in the staffroom on Tuesday 12 th March from 6pm. Free babysitting is available I would also like to thank every parent who took the time to attend the parent/teacher meetings held last Wednesday afternoon. These meetings provided the perfect opportunity for parents to find out what is happening at school in relation to their child’s education. On average we had an attendance rate ranging from 13% - 24% at each stage meeting. Hopefully more parents will attend future meetings. Last Thursday, I attended the local Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG) meeting. At our school, 15% of our school population is represented by Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander families. The purpose of the AECG is to work in partnership with schools to build and enhance the achievements of Aboriginal people. The next meeting will be held on Thursday 14 th March at Muswellbrook South PS. Everyone is welcome. Community support and generosity I would like to thank Mt Arthur Coal for subsidising the Healthy Harold Life Education Program, which is taking place over the next two weeks. Permission notes and $3 per student was all that was needed from parents, in order for your child to attend. School Photos These are taking place on Wednesday 27 th Feb (Years 2-6) and Thursday 28 th Feb (Years K-1). Photo envelopes have already been sent home. Please ensure that your child is dressed in accordance with our ‘Dress and Appearance Policy’, which is attached. Full school uniform includes black shoes and blue scrunchies/head bands. No JoJo bows please. MUSIC NEWS How lovely it has been to visit all the classrooms and see the children's happy faces in music class. This year music will be taught in all classes K-6 for a hour a week as part of the Relief from Face to Face program. Mrs Belinda Sumner will be teaching on Tuesdays and I am teaching the other four days. Please contact me via the front office if you have any questions about our music program. Choir Primary Choir will begin this Monday at lunchtime after eating time. All boys and girls in Years 3 - 6 are most welcome to come along to the library to join choir and sing songs with us. Band School Band will begin this Wednesday at 8.30am - 9am in the hall. We would love to have many more students in Years 3 - 6 join us for band. Please see the following article for more information. Band Demo & Parent Information Night Primary children from years 3 - 6 are at a perfect age to begin learning a band instrument. These may include flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, horn, or percussion instruments. If your child is interested in learning an instrument and/or joining our school band, we invite you to come along with your child to a parent information session, to be held in the school library on Monday 25th February at 5.30pm. This is an excellent opportunity to try out different instruments to see which one is a perfect fit for your child to learn, and to learn what is involved in lessons and hire of an instrument. The session will be run by staff from the Upper Hunter Conservatorium of Music. Everyone is welcome to come along. Musically Yours, Mrs Suzie Troon

READING EGGS AND MATHLETICS Dear Parents, Mathletics and Reading Eggs login cards will be sent home this week for all classes. If you haven't received your child's by Friday please contact the school. Thank you Louise Martin Coordinator
