Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) Information for Parents

PBL Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is a school wide program that encourages positive behaviours to improve academic and social outcomes for all students at Alma Public School. The aim of PBL is to establish positive social expectations for all members of our school community. This is achieved through the use of a shared and consistent language to discuss behaviour and learning expectations at our school. PBL involves the school community working together to help students focus on our three core values – Respectful, Responsible and Resilient.

Weekly Focus Areas At Alma Public School, we encourage students to be respectful, responsible and resilient citizens. Each week, a particular focus area is introduced to students at the morning assembly. The weekly focus is reinforced in classes and the playground, throughout the week. This is done using consistent language, in lessons developed by staff, that specifically teach and practise expectations in every area of the school. You can see the weekly focus displayed in your child's classroom and in other areas around the school such as the library, computer lab, kitchen, garden and office.

How can you help your child with PBL? Please ask your child what we talked about during the PBL lesson each week. You can positively reinforce and talk about the lessons, constantly reminding your child of the core values in which we are focusing. There will be a section of our newsletter, each week, dedicated to PBL so please support us by reinforcing our school focus areas at home. We hope that all families take the opportunity to reinforce these core values at home. PBL will be continually referred to in our weekly newsletters as well so all families are familiar with the values we are targeting as a part of this program.

This Week’s Focus Respectful – We use our manners Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is a school wide program that encourages positive behaviours to improve academic and social outcomes for all students. At Alma Public School, we are focussed on our three core values – Respectful, Responsible and Resilient. This week’s focus is: Be respectful by using our manners. Using manners means we say please, thank you and speak with a respectful tone. It would be appreciated if you could discuss, with your child, the importance of using manners at home and school. Examples of this include:

• Saying ‘good morning’ to teachers

• Using ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ when borrowing from a friend.

• Showing your parents that you appreciate the dinner they made you.
