Term 2 Week 1 Respect~Responsibilty~Safety~Be a Learner [email protected] Welcome back to Term 2 I trust that students, staff and families enjoyed a wonderful Easter break and everyone is ready and raring to go for the term ahead. What an amazing last week of term we had with the School Athlecs Carnival on the last Wednesday of term. From this carnival 14 students have qualified for the Bombala District PSSA Athlecs Carnival Field Events Day this Thursday. Congratulaons to the 14 students selected. A big thank you to the large number of parents and community members for their aendance on the day, it gave the carnival a great feel and the students and staff really appreciated your support. The last day of term allowed us to celebrate Easter and parcipate in a range of excing Easter acvies. We were also lucky enough to have a teacher visit us from Thailand who teaches in a school with 4700 students, and its only K-6. Our guest teacher engaged with students, staff and community and walked away from our school wanng to teach here at Delegate. She was so impressed by the facilies and resources at our disposal, but more importantly by the students we are lucky enough to have here at our school. Students were awarded prizes for our annual Easter Colouring Compeon and the unique Egg Race. A huge thank you to our P&C, who connue to amaze by providing all in aendance on the day with a sumptuous lunch. I would also like to thank the P&C for their incredible efforts in organising and running the Delegate Duck Race on Good Friday at Bill Jeffreys Park. It was a day of fun and excitement, with market stalls, delicious food, games for the kids and of course the Duck race itself, or in this years case, the four Duck Races. The P&C raised over $1600 for our students and these funds go directly toward ensuring families are not faced with huge costs for extra-curricular acvies and for supplying the school with valuable resources. This group of people led by President Su King work relessly for our school, so if you are able please offer to help out, or at the very least let the P&C members know how much we all appreciate their efforts next me you pass them in the street. ANZAC Ceremonies On ANZAC Day in the holidays, around 15 students marched at the Delegate Sub Branch ANZAC Day March in Delegate. I would like to give special menon to Alisha who read the Prayer for Thanksgiving, Charlie, Emily and Logan for carrying the Australian Flag, Naval Ensign and Air Force Ensign. Thanks as well to Isabella and Cooper who proudly carried the Delegate Public School Banner during the March. Congratulaons to Mrs Mikula who gave a rousing speech at the March. Robyn regaled to the gathering the story and journey of her late uncle Mr Doug Campbell who fought for our naon during warme. Congratulaons Robyn. On Tuesday of this week, our School Leaders conducted a beauful AZAC Ceremony here at school. Seamus and Alisha did a magnificent job leading the ceremony and we were lucky to have Errinundra and Emily read two poems to the gathering. Thanks to Mr Whitlock who has restored our Flag Pole to a usable state and as a result Declan G was able to proudly perform Flag Master dues at the ceremony.

Staff Professional Learning On Monday of this week we welcomed the Bombala Public School staff to work collaboratively with us here at Delegate. It was fantastic to showcase our school and have Mrs Bucholtz and a member of staff from Bombala present to us on the day about improving our pedagogical practices. Another thank you to our P&C, and especially Lesley Rowley who provided us with a delicious morning tea and to the Delegate Café for providing us with an outstanding lunch. School Times Please be aware that students who arrive at school prior to 8:45am are not supervised by staff. Buses arrive at this time and if the buses arrive a few minutes prior, this can be accommodated to allow the bus to continue its journey. Staff arriving at school prior to this time, use the time to effectively plan the day’s learning activities and for conducting professional conversations with colleagues. The safety of our students is paramount; however families need to be aware of school starting and finishing times. We understand that from time to time there may be extenuating circumstances and in these instances please converse with your child’s teacher to ensure adequate supervision is arranged. Road Safety

Attached to today’s Newsletter is a pamphlet from NSW Transport providing families with information regarding Bus Safety. Many students from Delegate travel by bus to and from school and it is vital that students understand the correct safety procedures in and around the bus. We encourage students and families to read this pamphlet together and have a discussion about the correct safety procedures.

School Attendance

Students at Delegate Public have an outstanding attendance rate and I would like to congratulate all on ensuring students attend school each and every day. It is important to remind parents that it is their responsibility to provide a verbal or written notification to school within seven days of the absence, informing us of the reason for the absence of their child. If a student is away for two consecutive days, teaching staff will make contact to ensure absent students are well and if the school can provide any support needed. An interesting fact is, if a child misses as little as 8 Days in a school term, by the end of primary school they’ll have missed over a year of school.

Community Use of School Grounds

It has been wonderful to see children and community using our wonderful sporting facilities here at school after school and on the weekends. Can I please ask that when using the facilities, can community members and children please leave them in the same state as they found, this includes taking any rubbish with you after finished and shutting the gate when leaving.

Opportunity Class (OC) Applications

Opportunity classes cater for academically gifted and talented students who may otherwise be without sufficient classmates at their own academic and social level. These schools help gifted and talented students to learn by grouping them with other gifted and talented students, teaching them in specialised ways and providing educational materials at the appropriate level.

Detailed instructions on how to apply online will be available from Tuesday 30 April 2019 at https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-5 The application website opens on Tuesday 30 April 2019 and closes on Friday 17 May 2019. You must apply by the due date. If you have any questions about Opportunity Classes or the application process, please contact Mr Bannister at school.

Visiting the School

We welcome visitors to our school and especially like it when parents, carers, grandparents etc. visit. However it is vital that all visitors report to the office to sign in first prior to entering classrooms or engaging with students in the playground. Once again it is a safety measure for not only our students but also for the visitors as well.

Have a great week Brad and Staff

Duck Race

What a great turn out .

In fabulous weather over 200 attended the well organised Duck Race - a record number of 330 ducks plus 50 boats sailed their way downstream in stiff competition. Our P&C proudly raised $1681 and awarded over $4000 in prizes. Many thanks go to organisers of the race and to those who marshalled and guided ducks and boats alike to the finish line. The P&C would also like to thank the sponsors who generously donated to the prize pool and to the punters who cheered on their ducks (even those that lilted a little on their side).

Congratulations to our wonderful P&C members whose hard work supports all the students at Delegate Public School and many thanks to our caring community.
