PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE NAIDOC Week

This week we recognise NAIDOC Week with a number of activities based on the theme for 2018 - Because of her, we can!

This year’s theme celebrates the essential role that women have played - and continue to play - as active and significant role models at the community, local, state and national levels.

On Thursday 5th our P and C will host a ‘Big Breakfast’ and we invite our school community to join us for a delicious cooked breakfast. Breakfast will be served from 8:45am – 9:30am.

Straight after the breakfast we will have our NAIDOC Week Gathering at 9:30am in the hall. Each class will have a presentation of their work completed this week to recognise NAIDOC Week and we will be treated to a performance from the Aboriginal Dance group from Duval HS.

We look forward to having many parents and friends join us this Thursday.

Mid-Year Interviews / PLP Meeting

If you have not yet had the opportunity to speak with your child’s teacher/s about their progress this year, it is not too late. Please use the teachers booking sheet and make time to check up on how your child is progressing.

As general rule, the more interest you show and the more positive about school and learning you are, the greater the achievements and outcomes for your child.

Times to catch up are available before, after and during

the school day and at various times for every class.

Regional Art Competition Finalist

The school was recently advised that Nathan was shortlisted in the University of New England School Acquisitive Art Prize. His artwork will be on display in the Let’s Hang It Exhibition at NERAM. Congratulations to Nathan on this achievement.

Armidale Secondary College

The Armidale community is invited to attend drop-in sessions at Armidale and Duval High Schools, to view the progress of the Armidale Secondary College.

The new high school is being developed on the current Armidale High School site. The new school will be a consolidation of Armidale High School and Duval High School, providing a future-focused school for approximately 1,500 students.

The NSW Department of Education is seeking feedback from the community at two drop-in sessions. The sessions will be beneficial for the community to see the significant progress of the design of the new school.

Project specialists will be on-hand to explain the schematic designs, provide more information and answer questions.

The drop-in sessions will be held on:

Tuesday 3 July 2018 at Duval High School

Wednesday 4 July 2018 at Armidale High School

From: 2PM – 7PM on both days.

Why is reading 20 mins each school night so important?

- Focus of the Week

Personal Space

When teaching manners to small children, show them how to politely

protect their own boundaries and respect the personal space of others.

Explain how important it is to follow the wishes of people who tell them to ‘back off’.

Use the bubble analogy, explaining that everyone has an invisible bubble around them, and when you get too

close, it pops regularly.

The Newling Public School basketball teams recently travelled to Tamworth to play in the

first rounds of the PSSA knockout. The girls team played their first game against Armidale

City Public School and lost 6 – 24. In their second game against West Tamworth the score

was much closer going down 8 – 18. The girls were so persistent in stealing the ball and quick

to get the ball down the court but the opposition were very tall so we struggled to get the

ball through the hoop. The boys team fought hard and unfortunately lost their first game

against Armidale City Public School 8 – 22. In their second game they came up against

Armidale City Public School again and won 23 – 16. It was a very entertaining game and great

to see the sportsmanship between both teams in the way they encouraged and supported

each other. A massive big thank you to Stacey who volunteered her time to train and coach

both teams. It was great to see the skill level of the students improve from last year and

their knowledge of the game also improve.

Kindergarten News

Kindergarten had the wonderful experience of

having Mr Cox read a book titled "The book with

no pictures” by BJ Novak.

It is a very silly book and the students loved

making adults say some very silly things " glug

glug glug, my face is a bug...."

Kindergarten would like to say a great big

thankyou to Mr Cox for being such a good sport.

Mr Watson has been training a mixed soccer team to compete at Bundarra, on Friday. We have been practising everyday to get our skills up. The team is made up from students in Yr 5/6. We wish the team the best of luck for Friday. Also, this week will see our NAIDOC Assembly. We are looking forward to the Duval High students coming to perform on Thursday.
