Leonie Byrne, Principal

Welcome back! We are so pleased to see children returning to school. To see them engaging with their teachers and their friends as well as to hear them playing and moving around the school is just wonderful. Schools just aren’t the same with out them here.

Our staggered return has been going well. Teachers are directing children to wash their hands regularly, we are applying hand sanitiser at the gates, staggering our breaks and having enhanced cleaning procedures implemented. During the school day our cleaner, Richard, is cleaning the toilets after each break, wiping down hand rails and work spaces as appropriate.

We are grateful for your cooperation, dropping your children at the gate, practising social distancing and only coming onto our school site when absolutely necessary.

Please remember to send a drink bottle with your child as our bubblers are still turned off. The refill station is still available at the canteen.

Parents/carers have been doing a great job supporting their children by teaching our remote learning packs at home. We will continue to prepare these packs until schools return to their usual routines and children are required to come to school 5 days a week. These packs are also taught at school so please send them to school as we do not want to print unnecessarily. If you have returned completed packs they will be marked but this will take some time as there is a lot of work for teachers to mark whilst also preparing new remote learning packs.

There is a great deal of talk in the media around the education of our children and the impact of covid-19. As a community you have clearly demonstrated to your children, through your commitment to delivering remote learning at home, that you support the school and value the learning that takes place here. This will be a life long lesson for some children. I would compare it to the child who loves a particular NRL team just because their father does or the child who loves Holdens over Ford because that’s what the family drives.

At Tamworth South, once we are back to business as usual we will be clearly focusing on bringing the children up to speed in literacy and numeracy. Yes, we always do this but we may have to drill down our lessons to perhaps having two literacy or numeracy sessions a day. Whatever it takes our teachers are qualified and well and truly up to the task.

I look forward to the next few weeks when all our children return. Please keep an eye on the school Facebook page for the most up to date information.
