Ms Janie Hamilton has made the difficult choice to leave NPS and teaching for the time being. Ms Hamilton was a committed staff member with a strong passion for all things sport and healthy lifestyle. She did a tremendous amount of work in organising school and district carnivals, and ensured that our students received many opportunities to participate, engage and excel on the sporting field. We wish her well in her future career! Mrs Michelle Sansour has also decided to move on. Mrs Sansour taught one of the junior classes in our Autism Unit. We wish her all best in her future work as well. Mothers Day Stall Last Friday I spent a short time out in the weather with the parent volunteers who were assisting at the Mothers Day Stall on the 3-6 site. I really wanted to acknowledge those volunteers who endured freezing and windy conditions so that our students could purchase gifts for Mothers Day. I only lasted about 20 minutes in the cold chatting with the volunteers before retreating back to the offices! I wanted to say a big thank you to the volunteers for their efforts. Airconditioning A quick update regarding the air- conditioning project. At this stage, the process is slated for completion by August 30. We have pushed and pushed for an earlier completion to no avail. Hopefully the successful contractor is able to get the work done on time and we can finally have comfortable learning spaces for all of our students. National Representative Great news! Mason H in 5/6 A has been selected in the 12-14 years Australian Motorcross Team! He will be competing in Horsham, Victoria in August this year. What an incredible achievement being selected to represent your country. We wish you all the best in the upcoming competition! iPad in classrooms Our iPads will be arriving into the school shortly. Once they arrive, there is a bit of process to go through in terms of setting them up before we can put them into the hands of our learners. At this time, all Kindergarten and Year 1 classes will be equipped, as well as a couple of classes on the 3-6 site. These classes will be running a 1:1 arrangement, meaning a dedicated iPad for each student. We are hopeful that what was originally a 3 year plan can actually be completed in 2 years, with the goal that all students are supplied with a device across every classroom in the school. This will likely generate lively discussion about the intended use of these devices. Parents will no doubt be keen to know more about how their use will impact on the learning environment. In my experience, ‘screen time’ concerns and handwriting are often big issues for parents. As we move forward, we look forward to running parent workshops where we can meaningfully talk about these issues and demonstrate how these devices are enhancing learning and assessment in our school. Keep an eye out for dates for these meetings in the future. Pre Loved Uniform Items

The school is often asked to provide replacement

clothing following an accident such as falling in the

mud, or personal accidents. We are running low on

K-2 size boys and girls track pants/shorts etc.

We would really appreciate any donations of these

items if they are clean and in reasonable

condition. Other size uniform items would also be

gratefully received. Just drop them into the office.

Thanks in advance.

Wanted, help with the school garden project on

the Primary site. If you have experience with

erecting fences and are willing to offer advice or

participate in a weekend working bee, please

contact Mr Quinell through the Primary office (ph.

44220401).

Thank you

Mr Steven Quinell

P & C News This week saw the P and C hold its first

meeting for the Term. It was extremely

well attended again, and it is so wonderful

to see so many parents and staff

attending our meetings. Each time we

need extra seating - but there is always

room for more parents!

At our meeting, we were able to approve

the purchase of a new PA system for the

infants site. In the past they have battled

with a small megaphone, and even then

was insufficient. The new PA will match

the existing one at the Primary Site! Mr

McMillan is thrilled with the impeding

arrival - as it means he will no longer have

to boom his voice across the COLA!

Over the next few weeks, our first batch of

iPads will arrive in the school, as per the

School Plan. It is a very exiting time for our

school, with lots of new initiatives starting

as we implement these learning tools into

the teaching curriculum. Over the coming

months we will be organising workshops

for parents to help educate and

demonstrate how they fit into daily NPS

life. I can assure you that this process is

extremely structured, monitored and

controlled, and will allow some exciting

new learning opportunities for our kids.

Thanks also to all of our parent helpers

and staff for a great Mothers Day Stall. We

hope all of our mothers and others

enjoyed their gifts and were spoilt with

love on Mothers Day.

As always, our staff are working tirelessly to engage our children at school. Please utilise many of the communication options available to meet with staff should you wish to discuss anything concerning your child. More information is always better, and early information ensures better outcomes. Thanks NPS staff for ongoing commitment to learning.

Kate Daniels, P & C President

Kindergarten Enrolment 2019 We will be taking enrolments for

Kindergarten 2019 in Term 3. We are

required by law to sight a child’s Birth

Certificate when enrolling. Don’t delay

your child’s enrolment. Take this

opportunity and beat the rush. If you

are unable to locate your child’s birth

certificate please apply for one now.

WE ARE UNABLE TO ENROL YOUR

CHILD WITHOUT A BIRTH CERTIFICATE

Student Contributions Late last year, the school made a decision to alter our existing practice around the area of book

packs for students. Put simply, instead of parents purchasing the book packs as prescribed by each

grade, the school will supply the classrooms with all the supplies that staff and students need in

order to support student learning. The school now asks that parents pay a contribution fee of $20

per student, capped at $50 per family. Funds collected through this initiative will be used in different

ways across the school. For example, parents that pay the contribution for a kindergarten child will

be directly funding the purchase of apps and software required on the school issued iPads to support

learning. Parents contributing towards a year 6 student may find the funds are used towards

upgrading our ageing interactive whiteboard fleet in classrooms.
