Dear Parents and Carers As the cooler weather sets in, please make sure your child has their school jacket, clearly labelled with their name, with them each day. Our office stock of donated clothing is sadly depleted with children coming in every day for a jacket to keep warm. We are looking forward to increasing school activities as soon as the first day of next term. While a number of in-school activities have been alllowed for a few weeks, we have now been advised that most other activities, including school sport (but not PSSA), can resume in Term Three. Scripture teachers will be welcomed back and also, hopefully, our Men’s Shed voluteers and Top Blokes role models. Hire of our school hall by physical culture and karate groups, resumes this week. This is great news as we revert to regular lessons and activities. Parents and carers are still being discouraged by the Health Department from entering school grounds but we are still presenting certificates at appropriate times because we don’t want the students to miss out on the recognition they deserve. I have copied the following except from the Department. “It is however important not to become complacent. All activities on school sites must occur in line with existing infection control procedures and the additional health, safety and distancing requirements outlined in the AHPPC Guidelines or in NSW Health advice, particularly as they relate to adults. Non-essential visitors are still not allowed on site or at events – this includes parents/carers.” Gurringai meetings are currently being planned for our Aboriginal community and we anticipate our first meeting post COVID will be held early in Term Three. Rheese Bull, our Aboriginal Education Officer works four days per week so if you have any questions for him, please call the office and he will return your call when he is not working in the playground or classrooms. Our Community Liaison Officer Corinne Meti works Thursdays and Fridays and is also available to assist if you leave a message for her at the office. You will have noticed a change to the content of our Homenote. We are endeavouring to include work from every Stage, each week, to make it a little more interesting for you. We have given the Parenting Tips a rest and have cut down on the amount of advertising. We hope you prefer this change. The children certainly do! Last week, the Year Six students wrote persuasive texts and I was very impressed with the standard of the arguments presented. A number of senior students wrote convincingly about increasing the amount of play time they should have each day! The most convincing argument was that the extra time could be taken from eating time so the amount of class time would not be affected. How can anyone argue with that sensible idea? Dear Parents and Carers

As the cooler weather sets in, please make sure your child has their school jacket, clearly labelled with their name, with them each day. Our office stock of donated clothing is sadly depleted with children coming in every day for a jacket to keep warm.

SUPPORT NEWS

Imaad and Layten from K6P are identifying the coloured shapes on our Reach and Match mat.

Mrs Ward is helping Layten learn the sound Tt in his soundwaves book. Avelyne from K6P is writing a description of her beautiful tropical fish she made in creative arts this week. My fish is purple and pink. It has shiny glitter on its body.

K6JS practising their halves and quarters by making paper plate pizza's.

EARLY STAGE ONE NEWS Last week in Kindergarten we learnt about volume in our mathematics lessons. We listened to the story “Mr Archimedes Bath” and learnt about the displacement of water. We really enjoyed showing this concept by placing dinosaurs in a tub of water and watching the water rise. We also studied famous artists from around the world. Henri Matisse has created a famous art work called “The Snail” and many students in Kindergarten made their own snail like Henri Matisse.

STAGE ONE NEWS

Students have been practising crossing the road correctly, how to be a responsible passenger and safe pedestrian in Personal Development/Health lessons. They know it is the law to wear a helmet when they are riding a bike or scooter. Handwriting is happening three times a week to help students form their letters correctly. Teachers are pleased to see so many students trying their best and taking pride in their work during writing lessons. You could hear the laughter around Year 1 and 2 classrooms when they discovered that hippopotamuses use their poo to mark their territory! Eww!

STAGE TWO NEWS

3T have been busy exploring numbers. We are learning to view and represent numbers in lots of different ways. We are also understanding that people view numbers differently and also use different strategies to answer mathematical questions. Our daily number talks help us learn different ways of problem solving.

STAGE THREE NEWS

5B have been working extra hard with our maths at the moment. In this lesson we have been continuing our work with three-dimensional objects. We used clay and matchsticks to build the objects so we could closely see and analyse their properties. Some students found it harder than expected to actually build the shapes, but still had fun! It was a great lesson, enjoyed by all.
