Quality education in an innovative and caring environment. Safe Respectful Learners
Phone: 9621 7233, Email: [email protected]
Term 2 Week 9, 24 June, 2019
Principal’s Report - Mr Richard Ford
The newsletter is a little late this fortnight due to so many things going on. Firstly a group
of stage 3 students went to the high school for a STEM/Google day. They worked with a
number of students from other schools in the Colebee learning community.
Unfortunately not all the students can attend so these days are for our students to learn
things happening in other schools and bring back to share with their peers.
Well done to our cross country runners who represented
us at the Sydney West Carnival. Mercy, Ethan and Isaac.
On Monday 17th June, the Executive Director Cathy
Brennan, came for a visit. In that time she went around
to a few classes and spoke with some of the students
while they were working. She was very impressed by the
skills and knowledge the students were showcasing, and
the learning taking place.
Our Knockout Football (soccer) team played Caddies
Creek Public School on Monday afternoon. The students
came up against a well drilled team with lots of
experience on the soccer field. They showed great
sportsmanship and enjoyed playing in the rain.
Last Wednesday students from Doonside Technology High School came down on their
‘School on Tour’ performance. The students showed us how talented they are and some
of the things you can be involved at the high school. Thank you to the teacher and
students who gave us such a great show.
Next Week we also have NAIDOC Day 3-6 on Monday and K-2 on Tuesday. On
Wednesday the students from 3-6 in the Liven’ Deadly Program will host a NAIDOC
assembly.
Next week is the last week of term and the students will be returning on
Tuesday 23rd July.
Stage 1 attended Featherdale Wildlife Park and they had a great
time. The students were pretty tired when they got back to school
but were also so excited to talk about the different animals they
saw and interesting facts they learnt.
Our students have been
learning about how things grow
and different foods you can
grow. Kindy did a lesson on how
to know and pick the right
vegetables and the Support Unit
used some of the lettuce for
their cooking. Thank you to Mr
Bailey for all his hard work.
Tomorrow is the athletics carnival, if the rain stays away. The
canteen will be open and the P and C are also running a sausage
Sizzle.
On Thursday is our fairy floss and crazy hair day. All money raised
will go to the year 6 farewell at the end of the year.

"Step into Stage One!!
How Is it Week 9 already?
Where is this year going?
Stage One students had an amazing time on their excursion to Featherdale
Wildlife Park last Friday. They were all really well behaved and they all learnt
so much about animals and their habitats. They were super lucky to see baby
dingoes sitting out in the sun and they got to pat kangaroos! Ask them about
the Ghost Bat, the pelican, the quokka and even Tasmanian Devils. I am sure
all Stage One students would have slept well on Friday night.
It is great to see so many students demonstrating our school expectations of
being a Safe, Respectful Learner both in the classroom and in the
playground. Keep collecting those critters because critters add up to PBL
Merits and PBL Merits add up to badges.
Have a great fortnight and if you have any queries, please see your child’s
teacher or contact them through SeeSaw!
Keep smiling and keep shining!
Dream Believe Achieve!
Featherdale Wildlife Park
On Friday stage one went to Featherdale Wildlife Park. It was so much fun
and I’m here to tell you a little bit of what we did.
When we got to school we caught the bus and we played the quiet game
we went through the entrance of the park.
We saw lots of birds. We saw so many I could not count them all. After that
we saw the penguins show and we learned that penguins have to eat with
their fish head first.
A few minutes later we saw the koalas. It was so much fun. We stayed there
for five minutes.
We then headed towards the kangaroos. When I was patting the
kangaroos it pooped. We saw some ghost bats. It was so fun. It was so dark
and scary.
After recess we saw the farm it had sheep, hens, turkeys and then we saw
more kangaroos. We went and saw very green turtles and they were
striking their heads
in the log.
After lunch we
saw crocodiles
they were
snapping. Then
we saw dingo’s
there were 5
puppies
And we saw lots
of reptiles they
were creepy.

Thank you to our P & C for the
donation to go towards our Lego that
we will use for many different activities
from keeping students busy during wet
lunch breaks to encouraging creative
play, developing fine motor skills and
using their imagination.
Fun Featherdale Excursion
On Friday we had a very exciting excursion. We were going to Featherdale
Wildlife Zoo Park Woohoo but we had to go to Miss Harrington’s class for a
presentation.
After the presentation she read a story to us. Then the bus came it was very
bumpy on the bus. We played a game on the bus so on each side they have to
be quiet and my side did not win.
Mrs Natt shouted out loud because she saw her car. So the other side had won I
was very sad but that’s alright.
When we got there we went in and saw the green-winged macaws one thing I
learned was that they have to eat fish head first because if it goes tail first it’ll
choke.
When that was finished we saw five koalas in a tree. When that was finished we
saw the wombats there were three wombats.
When it was finished we saw the kangaroos they were hopping like crazy that we
saw the ghost bats it was dark we had recess.
After recess we went to the farm but not all the kids came in the farm. After that
we went to see the Kangaroos again.
When that was finished we had lunch, when that was finished we saw the reptiles
it was cool and also there
were spiders too. After that
we saw the dingos there
were four babies they
were cute.
Then we caught a bus
again and went back to
school and again Mrs Natt
shouted.

2A’s writing about the Featherdale Wildlife Park Excursion
Featherdale Excursion
On Friday, Stage One went on a really exciting excursion to see animals at Featherdale Wildlife Park.
The first animals we saw were birds. The birds were colourful and exotic. We saw a native bird called
the Gang Gang bird and we saw a bird called a Macaw which was very colourful. Next we saw
Ghosts! But, they were actually Ghost Bats swooping over Bilbies.
My favourite part was when we went to watch the Little Penguins show because the Little Penguins
were swimming so fast. I learned that Little Penguins eat fish head first because the scales on the fish
might get stuck in their poor throats.
My favourite animals were definitely the Quokkas and Dingo Puppies. I liked the Quokkas because
they were so cute and I liked the Dingo Puppies because they looked like pet puppies you could
have at home.
When we came back to school I was exhausted! I was exhausted because of all the walking in the
zoo!

Featherdale Excursion
On Friday, we went to Featherdale. The first thing we saw was the different types of birds and there
were some exotic birds as well. It was so cool. My favourite two animals were the Ghost Bats and the
Fairy Penguins. The penguins are so cute and the Ghost Bats were scary, but I did not get scared bad-
ly. My favourite event was the Pelican show. Their mouths were kind of weird. Then when we finished
watching the Pelicans we saw other birds and then we sat down on the ground. We had to answer
questions while we were waiting for the bus. When the bus came, a big bird crashed into my face. I
had a scratch and Ruben tried to cover it when we got on the bus. We played a game and I was at
the very back of the bus. We had to be so quiet. I was about to laugh so hard, but I didn’t. When we
arrived at school, my side of the bus did not win. When I was at Featherdale I felt super duper good
because I got to see all the animals.

Featherdale Excursion
On Friday, all of Stage One went on the most exciting excursion where you can find lots of animals,
Featherdale! When we arrived we saw some cute little penguins. Penguins eat sardines and they eat
them from the head first. They eat them head first because if they eat them tail first, they might choke
on the scales. Before we saw the penguins we went to see the parrots. The parrots are beautiful and
colourful and they are so, so loud. When we were walking, we also saw a Southern Cassowary. I
thought they were cute but they’re endangered.
One of my favourite animals were the Koalas and the Echidnas. They’re my favourite because the Ko-
ala was cute and the Echidna looked very spikey.
When we left I was miserable because I wanted to see more animals but I was glad that we were
back because I was tired.
