Our school uses the Australian Curriculum, which sets out
the core knowledge, understanding, skills and general ca-
pabilities that are important for all Australian students. It
makes clear what all young Australians should learn as
they progress through schooling.
Our teachers align the teaching, assessment and reporting
to the Australian Curriculum through the use of C2C mate-
rials.
Each week our school focuses on a behavior from out
Pastoral Care Program. This week we are focusing on
‘Dealing with Your Anger’. Next week our topic is
‘Sharing’.
The Gums State School uniform is as follows:
Polo shirt with school emblem—available through P. & C.
School hat—maroon bucket hat available through P. & C.
Black shorts/skorts
Short, appropriately coloured socks
Joggers
‘No hat, No play’ rule applies. Children are provided with sun-
screen and are encouraged to use it.
Wearing school uniform encourages school pride. It also pro-
vides easy identification on school excursions.
Second hand school uniforms are available for purchase
through P. & C.
Until next time,
Mrs Ros Bougoure

Term 2 Week 9
15th June 2020
As you will be aware, the disruption to school routines as a result of the Queensland govern-
ment’s response to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, has resulted in changes to the teach-
ing, learning, assessment and reporting at The Gums State School.
The Department of Education has modified the requirements for reporting student academic
achievement for semester 1, 2020. Schools will provide a report using the information that they
have available from Term 1 and Term 2, 2020. This information will be modified from the planned
assessment program as many students did not attend school for the last week of Term 1, and
they participated in a home based learning program for three to five weeks in Term 2.
The Semester 1 student reports from The Gums State School will be available early Term 3 (date
to be advised). Students will be provided with a level of achievement and comment for English,
Maths, Science, HASS, behaviour and overall comment. This level of achievement has been de-
termined using the available information about student learning and achievement from Term1 and
Term 2.
In term 4, on the 6th and 7th of October, our school will be under a mandatory review. This
review occurs once every 4 years.
The reviewers look closely at our school’s performance data and speak with a wide range of
staff, students, parents and community members to get an accurate picture of the school.
Feedback from parents and the community is an important part of school reviews and eve-
ryone is encouraged to have their say.
