Welcome back! The students have settled back into school routines well. This
term we are learning about our family, forces, light and sound.
We will be looking at how families are structured and the roles
and responsibilities of their members. In Science, we are
learning about the forces of push and pull, our senses and all
about light and sound. We have a number of incursions and an
excursion to LEGOLAND planned for Science. The Preps will
be performing ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’ at the school
concert.
Term 3 is a great time to consolidate your child’s learning. By
now most students have developed good routines about their
belongings and are taking responsibility for bringing their take
home books and diaries every day. Independence is a life skill
and we will be working to increase independence to assist the
children in their transition into Year 1 next year. At home you
can help your child by reminding them if necessary but
allowing them the opportunity to prepare their own bags and
lunch boxes. It is also a great time to teach your child how to
tie their own laces! Remember to read daily and talk to your
child about the story, characters and vocabulary.

English In Reading this term we will be revising all of the
letters of the alphabet, their sounds, names and
correct formation. In addition, we will be looking at
the diagraphs th, ch, ph, wh, ng, ee and oo. We will
also be looking at information reports and
procedures.
In Writing, we will continue with recounts and letters.
Also we will have a go at writing our own information
reports and procedures.
In our Multisensory Structured Language (MSL)
Spelling lessons, we will continue to focus on
building phonetic knowledge. This involves using
finger spelling to segment and blend individual
sounds into words. In addition to reading these
words, we will practise writing all the sounds in
words.
Mathematics In Maths this term students will be looking
at 2D and 3D shapes, place value,
measurement of time and money as well
as sharing equally.
All tasks start with ‘hands on’ experiences
and then progress to representing their
ideas in pictures and symbols. Students
are encouraged to share their thinking and
explain their reasoning.
Practising reading with a partner.
Using unifix blocks to calculate the length of objects.
School Performance 6th September The Preps have been working very hard learning their lines and
rehearsing the choreography for their stage production of ‘The
Three Billy Goat’s Gruff’ . We have learnt all the lyrics to the songs
and have been busy creating costumes.
It would great if you could supply your child with black pants or
leggings and black shoes for our performance. Please make sure
all items are labeled and are handed to your child’s class teacher
at least a week before the performance.
Ticket sales will be done online.
Make sure to book early to avoid
disappointment.
Arts In Term Three for Music, Prep students will explore sound and silence and look at different ways of using their voices, movement and instruments to express ideas. For example through music games and creating long/short/loud/soft sounds with their voices or instruments. They will sing and play instruments to create music and practise chants, songs and rhymes including those used by cultural groups in the local community. Leading up to the school concert, the Prep students will rehearse and perform songs from ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’ and short instrumental pieces which they have learnt and composed. In addition, they will also respond to different types of music, expressing what they enjoy and why.

German This term in German, students in Prep will be learning about animals. They will engage with our puppets, Felix and Franzi, to learn new vocabulary for many different animals (and meet some of Felix and Franzi’s friends at the same time). Their knowledge of colours, numbers and family members will be reinforced through games, songs, and stories that allow them to become familiar with common German words.
P.E. In Term 3 for Physical Education, students will be exploring movement with a focus on key fundamental motor skills of kick & punt. The students will also be learning about team games and working together with others.
